So nothing except the gym and maybe the weatherspoons has closed.

Heaving full market, shops busy.

Police say they wont be checking or enforcing anything at all.

So what was the point?

OP posts:

Same in my town - heaving. No social distancing. Park full of old and young people crammed on benches.

I’m actually shocked.

LottieBees19 · 21/03/2020 14:40

Have we got to wait until Monday for next briefing ?

WhentheDealGoesDown1 · 21/03/2020 14:42

How do people know how busy their towns are from their houses, I wouldn’t have a clue about mine today

adaline · 21/03/2020 14:42

@LottieBees19 there was one at 2pm but it didn't say anything new.

adaline · 21/03/2020 14:42

How do people know how busy their towns are from their houses

Because people live in their town centres?

WhentheDealGoesDown1 · 21/03/2020 14:43

Briefing was at 14:00, it was about the supermarkets, it wasn’t Boris today

swimlyn · 21/03/2020 14:45

I'm loving the disbelief posts on here. Wake up!

Temporary morgues are being erected all over the UK right now.

I hope they’ll be able to “accommodate” all of these morons. (and we should all hope the refrigeration doesn’t break down)

bigbluebus · 21/03/2020 14:46

We often go to our local market town in the Midlands on a Saturday morning but the only time I've seen it as busy as it was today is when there's an event on. The 'vulnerable' elderly were out in full force - even saw one couple who must have been 80+ and the man was walking with a zimmer frame looking very frail. The queue outside Boots was ridiculous as they have cut their opening hours so weren't opening until 10.00 but there was a large gathering of people waiting for the doors to be opened - presumably some of whom were collecting medication for their own underlying conditions. The queue in Tesco was horrendous (saw it through the window) and they were queueing in the (very small) shop and out of the door at the bakers - all ages. The only shop that seemed to have taken sensible precautions was a butcher who had a sign up asking for no more than 2 customers at a time inside the shop. The nail bar and barbers/haidressers were all in full swing - hard to do nails and hair from 2 metres away! All cafes were doing take aways.

allthegoodusernameshavegone · 21/03/2020 14:47

Our little market town is heaving, caravan sites are all full, the kids all playing football and Ive heard one pub has opened their garden and serving from an outside bar. Not a lot has changed, my friends holiday cottages are full and she’s having lots of enquires mainly from Londoners.

SouthWestmom · 21/03/2020 14:48

Temporary morgues are being erected all over the UK right now.

Where did you see that?

dkanin · 21/03/2020 14:48

I had to take DDog on an emergency vet trip yesterday after having been staying at home out of the way for days. I couldn't believe how busy the roads were, I was expecting a clear journey from the pictures of empty motorways Ive seen and the towns I drove through on my way there were people milling around everywhere, I didn't see any masks or people wearing gloves. It really looked as though nothing was any different at all. It felt quite surreal like the places I was driving through were in one world and everything in the news and this crisis is happening in a parallel universe

WhentheDealGoesDown1 · 21/03/2020 14:49

Because people live in their town centres?

and also the park?

LottieBees19 · 21/03/2020 14:49

Think people on these threads are not the ones in denial. I think the government are not trying to stop deaths just lower the peak. But they are not listening to frontline doctors and the NHS will be overwhelmed. Very quickly.

Piggywaspushed · 21/03/2020 14:49

I think people think it's a Bank Holiday. Of course, the vulnerable and elderly are due to be quarantined from Monday. They see it as their 'last hurrah' Hmm

LottieBees19 · 21/03/2020 14:51

Hospitals have definitely ordered thousands of body bags and yes morgues are being prepared. Have relative who confirmed.

The80sweregreat · 21/03/2020 14:54

What will make them sit up and bloody listen.

WhentheDealGoesDown1 · 21/03/2020 14:55

It's just very odd that everyone seems to know how busy everywhere is today when they are at home

Patsypie · 21/03/2020 14:57

I've just been out and it's busy on my high street. Beauty salons, cafes etc full and the rough pub is full. Very major city. Very worrying.

The80sweregreat · 21/03/2020 14:57

If the nhs can't cope they will need to let people die and maybe then they will realise this is serious. Doctors and nurses may die too and that does break my heart.
It's beyond stupid how people think they are invincible

SouthWestmom · 21/03/2020 14:57

Lottie thanks but having been reliably informed by friends and relatives of MNetters of various untrue things (regularly royal fatalities) I'd rather a proper source.
Things are bad enough with out this stuff circulating.

WhentheDealGoesDown1 · 21/03/2020 14:57

Does everyone live on their local high street to see everyone in the shops that aren't essential

allthegoodusernameshavegone · 21/03/2020 14:59

Whethedealgoesdown1
My town centre flat has windows!

WhentheDealGoesDown1 · 21/03/2020 15:01

allthegoodusernameshavegone

Obviously a few will live on the high street but not everyone and some have stated several different locations.

pickletickled · 21/03/2020 15:01

My employer closed us down at 8pm last night.
I had to go in this morning to do banking etc.. the amount of people rattling the doors was unbelievable. Even when ferrying cash to the post office they're asking what time I'm opening. Even had a mouthful because we can't pay out bets!
We are a non essential service (gambling) and we knew yesterday when it was announced about pubs, cafes etc.. that we would then be inundated with people coming in for a cuppa and sitting around and therefore putting us at more risk, as well as each other.
Anyway, back to this morning - I left to go get the bus to my shop and on my estate there wasn't anyone out and about at all. I travelled 15 minutes to where the shop is (We are in a small Town and this is on a fairly busy estate's main road) and it was absolutely rammed full of people, more I'd say than that time on a normal saturday! What the hell is wrong with people? what are they not understanding?
Social distancing was clearly something people chose to ignore as they queued out of butchers and supermarket doors.
Bring on total lock down - then we will be able to get what we need way easier than we can now. Shops will hopefully retain stock if there's only so many people allowed in at once and you're limited to so many per item. It is absolutely crazy as well as disgusting behaviour that many humans have demonstrated in shops this last week or so.

The country has gone crazy
