So nothing except the gym and maybe the weatherspoons has closed.

Heaving full market, shops busy.

Police say they wont be checking or enforcing anything at all.

So what was the point?

He's had weeks to coordinate a lockdown. He could see what was unfolding across the rest of the world, so why the big delay here?

The80sweregreat · 23/03/2020 15:35

Lots of reasons for delay. Plus we don't have the amount of army and police we might have had in the past.
I'm sure it's not as easy as people think it is .

Taddda · 23/03/2020 15:38

Why is it such a logistical nightmare in this country when every other country has managed it? Why is it we seem to be the only country in the world that find all of this 'too hard' to get to grips with?

The army are on standby and obviously this has been prepped for 'behind the scenes'....Hmm. So get on with it!

It's a joke- in two weeks time we'll realise just how unfunny that joke is.

adaline · 23/03/2020 15:41

I'm sure it's not as easy as people think it is .

Yet every other country in the world has managed it just fine.

Are we really that incompetent as a nation? It's embarrassing.

Taddda · 23/03/2020 15:47

@The80sweregreat again, 'it's too hard to do'....?

Everything seems too hard to do, even sitting on your arse for a few weeks, too hard.....

Those poor NHS staff.

I'm hoping they bring in a clause that asks if you've been following the government advice in regards to whether you deserve treatment or not.

Lockheart · 23/03/2020 16:26

@Taddda the NHS treats on clinical need, as it should, not on whether someone's been good or not. You can't withhold healthcare as punishment.

Plus, please give more than 3 seconds thought to the consequences of leaving potentially thousands or tens of thousands of patients untreated. Then don't be so daft.

user1472151176 · 23/03/2020 16:55

They will never be able to base treatment on whether or not someone has been adhering to the rules or not but the people who have been swanning around like they don't have a care in the world will get a very frightening wake up call when 2 weeks down the line it's their 85 year old elderly relative needing an ITU bed against a 25 year old stranger. And that poor doctor will have to make the decision on who lives and who dies and have to live with that decision for the rest of their lives along with the horror scenes that are happening right now! Unless you're working in that environment or have ever worked in that environment will be able to comprehend the horror. People won't listen until it hits close to home and when it starts to hit close to home for a majority we'll already be too far in the poo to be able to do anything about it.

Igotthemheavyboobs · 23/03/2020 17:20

What are towns like today? Am now in lock down so can't see anything. My dp said the queue for macdonalds was huge, he had to join it just to hlget home from work!

Bringringbring12 · 23/03/2020 17:24

Had to pop to smiths to get some stationary.

Dead. Absolutely dead.

Large SE town.

Bringringbring12 · 23/03/2020 17:25

* I'm hoping they bring in a clause that asks if you've been following the government advice in regards to whether you deserve treatment or not.*

Oh sweet Jesus. Where to begin

goose1964 · 23/03/2020 17:26

My Facebook feed is full of "we're closing our shops but are still operating online" posts . About time too.

AlexaAmbidextra · 23/03/2020 18:37

Had to pop to smiths to get some stationary. (sic)

Did you? Did you really? Since when has stationery become essential to life? Lockdown can’t come soon enough for me.

Taddda · 23/03/2020 18:46

@Bringringbring12 oh sweet Jesus. Where to begin
Quite possibly a phrase being said by many an ICU staff member over the coming weeks....

Okay, possibly change 'denied' to 'prioritised' (still slightly pissed off at the thousands that took to the city for a last hurrah on Friday perhaps 🤨)....

I think of it this way- If you currently ignore and fail to follow health advice that would allow you life saving treatment for a number of conditions (heavy smokers, drinkers, overweight...) patients in need of transplants for example, you are prioritised over and quite possibly denied it.

This is a virus that if you catch it (through failing to follow medical advice) it is not only your life that your risking, but everyone else who you come in to contact with and so on....

In the coming weeks we are likely to be overloaded with the need for beds and ventilators - if it really does come down to the 'worst case senario', and 'last hurrah Larry' verses the 39 year old NHS nurse currently critically ill needs that final bed are you quite sure that priority need wouldn't be a decision that would have to be made?

No, it's not a pleasant way to think, but how can you make people understand that this could be a realistic scenario and to take stock of their actions right now?

Bringringbring12 · 23/03/2020 18:46

Yep

Passed 3 people (we live in town centre). About 10 metres apart.

Paid by car at self service
All good

Bringringbring12 · 23/03/2020 18:47

*card

Alsohuman · 23/03/2020 18:54

we don't have the amount of army and police we might have had in the past

And whose fault is that?

Taddda · 23/03/2020 19:22

We also don't have the beds @Alsohuman (800,000 when the NHS was founded 70 years ago, now 150,000)....the fault with the same people....Hmm

Alsohuman · 23/03/2020 20:24

I know. Strip public services down to the bone and then panic when they’re needed. Fucking Cameron has so much blood on his hands.

pocketem · 23/03/2020 22:08

Golf club was full again today, little golf being played but people drinking in the clubhouse. Really hope this is clamped down upon in the lockdown, rather than people claiming they are using it as their daily exercise
