So nothing except the gym and maybe the weatherspoons has closed.

Heaving full market, shops busy.

Police say they wont be checking or enforcing anything at all.

So what was the point?

OP posts:
Aridane · 22/03/2020 21:01

I have no clue why English nation is like that., why the panic buying, why people not practising social distancing. I just can't get over it.

I don’t get it either - it’s so embarrassing and unnecessary

Aridane · 22/03/2020 21:05

@AlexaAmbidextra - ageism is seemingly tolerated on number in a way that (generally) racism or homophobia isn’t. There have been some shocking posts in this regard on other threads. Still, I guess it makes a change from some of the anti Chinese threads

Alsohuman · 22/03/2020 21:19

The ageism in the last couple of weeks has been appalling. And in a forum where toys get thrown out of prams because of tiny instances of casual sexism.

JCSAR · 22/03/2020 21:21

People are completely selfish and clueless. My NDN comes and goes multiple times a day and they are carrying on like normal, they run a business from home so have no excuse. Husband and I went to stock up on essentials on Friday so hopefully we’ll be set for the next couple of weeks without having to really go anywhere and there was people wandering round shops look at things to make their homes prettier and buying stuff to do up their gardens. Every time I think about the fact that my DS can’t go to school tomorrow I want to cry. I absolutely love having him home with me but he loves school so much it’s just so sad that he and his friends are missing out. We were meant to be going abroad in June, first time we taken our two boys and that will be cancelled also makes me want to cry. We’re trying to do everything we can to keep people safe and not catch anything to pass anything on and then there’s stupid people carrying on as normal. Do they not realise that the longer they do carry on the longer this arse of a disease will carry on?!?!

user1476277375 · 22/03/2020 22:07

Er, yes they bloody can!

M2B19 · 22/03/2020 22:50

The traffic in our town is actually worse of a day time in my opinion. It’s a joke.

TheGreatWave · 22/03/2020 23:27

I think irrespective of irresponsible people going out and not social distancing you just need to look after yourself and your family and stay in.

That's my line of thought, I can't change what they are doing, I can only change and worry about what my family are doing.

Hugt · 23/03/2020 01:15

I realised today that lots of zoos are still open and its been the tip of my frustration today

AlexaAmbidextra · 23/03/2020 01:25

It’s clear people aren’t taking notice which will inevitably lead to a lockdown by the end of March

Yes. INCLUDING YOU and all the others on this thread who went out too.

AlexaAmbidextra · 23/03/2020 01:30

I realised today that lots of zoos are still open and its been the tip of my frustration today

Colchester Zoo has announced it’s closing, at last.

AlexaAmbidextra · 23/03/2020 01:36

Aridane & Alsohuman.. There’s always been casual ageism on here but it reached a peak over Brexit and has now reared it’s ugly head again. You’re correct. Every other type of ‘ism’ however slight or in some cases imagined, is immediately jumped upon. I tried to discuss it last week but my thread was reported and pulled as a TAAT. No doubt this post will disappear too. 🙄

Hugt · 23/03/2020 01:37

@alexaambidextra

A hard choice but the right one in my opinion.

Still lots of zoos not only open but advertising on their Facebooks

janj2301 · 23/03/2020 05:35

Macdonalds have just announced they are closing

TheLittleDogLaughed · 23/03/2020 06:34

London borough here. V quiet yesterday at least half the shops shut and v few people out. Usually it’s buzzing on a Sunday.

TheLittleDogLaughed · 23/03/2020 06:35

Boris needs to be far stricter or this will all go on for a lot longer. What an irresponsible nation we are.

Mominatrix · 23/03/2020 06:48

I am another dog owner who regularly walks her dog in 3 different parks and I was astounded by the huge upsurge of families and exercisers using the parks. It has been so bad that on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday the levels were as large as a bank holiday in june on a fine day. Definitely impossible to be a safe social distance from anyone, not to mention the joggers and trail bikers who whizzed by very close due to the width of the paths.

Well, thank you assholes for forcing the council to close all the parks in the borough so the local parks are now closed. The Royal Parks are still open, but based on their selfish behaviour, I anticipate they will also be forced to close. That only leaves the Thames Towpath and I dread going there because that is impossible to close so everyone will be heading there.

wecandothispeeps · 23/03/2020 07:13

No other option now for the government but to lock the country down. The opportunity of offering a sensible soft lockdown with the public using their common sense is failing utterly.

I can't blame people for bursting into the warm spring sunshine after such a long period inside during the winter, but really staggered to see how many were ignoring the restrictions altogether. We live in a beauty spot, and it was heaving with families and friends gathering.

I hope he does it today before it is too late.

Teddybear27 · 23/03/2020 08:20

I live near the coast, South East, and it is definitely quieter. The road outside is usually really busy with cars but not at the moment, still a few people going to work, but much quieter than usual... these people having parties and stuff are selfish fu**ers IMO and it will take longer to get rid of the virus....

Duchessofblandings · 23/03/2020 08:23

No idea what our town was like because we are doing as advised and staying home.
There’s a beach and the sun was shining so I don’t doubt idiots were out in droves.

Totopoly · 23/03/2020 08:30

People who are literally laughing at those of us following government guidelines

I've not seen any small business owners "literally laughing" at anyone following guidelines. I have seen them cry, though, at the prospect of losing their businesses and their families losing their homes.

FWIW, I wouldn't be working either now, if I were normally an escort.

Taddda · 23/03/2020 10:55

@wecandothispeeps I think its already too late- the country does need a lockdown now, more of a damage control.

I have a prescription to pick up today (non virus related)- have two small Dds and keeping the social distancing advice. Queued outside (alot coughing.. !?), then pharmacist came out and said he 'had to close as the last person who went in had very obvious acute symptoms and they needed to clean....again....'. He looked seriously pissed....

After a Friday of packed pubs, restaurants and clubs (who ALL 'locked in'), a weekend of heaving markets and shops, I think (dread) that the next two weeks are going to be dire influxes of figures and NHS overload.

Despair....Confused

bushhbb · 23/03/2020 10:58

People can chill in their garden, no need to go out to market or whatever. My part of London is still busy, looks same as always

Taddda · 23/03/2020 11:03

@bushhbb Inner City here, no garden to chill in unfortunately....but still trying to keep the kids as entertained indoors as possible....social distancing is almost impossible where I live right now ( just had to cross the street several times....).

Until people start taking the advice seriously we have to stay indoors (gardenless.....!)-

Alsohuman · 23/03/2020 11:06

Yes, that was a real check your privilege moment!

adaline · 23/03/2020 11:11

People can chill in their garden

Not everyone has access to a garden...
