So nothing except the gym and maybe the weatherspoons has closed.

Heaving full market, shops busy.

Police say they wont be checking or enforcing anything at all.

So what was the point?

Except my Ingredient of choice was bread, couldn't find any! But i did start feeling paranoid like I'm the ott twat covering my face, avoiding people, even holding my breath to walk back to my house! (Shops just over the road)Confused

Oscarsdaddy · 22/03/2020 17:47

Ours was the same yesterday, maybe a little quieter but the main focus of our town is Waitrose and then we’ve a good selection of independent shops

We did leave it till late morning to venture in, supermarket wasn’t busy at all and plenty of stocks apart from usual moans .... loo roll, paracetamol, etc....

Was shocked by older people about, well over 70 and a fair amount of vulnerable people about too in mobility scooters, with their careers, etc....

It’s clear people aren’t taking notice which will inevitably lead to a lockdown by the end of March

adaline · 22/03/2020 17:47

The whitstable shack with one family ordering, and then the people behind them in the queue a good 2 metres behind them?

How do you know it's one family?

And what about the photo below that of huge crowds of people sitting on the beach eating and drinking?

Dilovescake21 · 22/03/2020 17:51

It’s fine to go and get food and prescriptions but I’ve seen old people just “popping” out for a newspaper. Yesterday there was a burial near us with loads of people going to a cemetery. Lots of people don’t seem to have a clue what’s going on or don’t care that they are going to over burden the NHS. All the pictures of people on Brighton seafront today - OMG. Government needs to lockdown cities.

Had a quick scan of this thread and sorry to say this will all change when 5000 people are dead

pocketem · 22/03/2020 18:11

Yes dusty, it's sad to say but I think the vulnerable generation who insist on carrying on as normal will only start to pay attention when we get to the 700-800 daily deaths that Spain and Italy are experiencing. Too many of them are still treating it as a joke

janj2301 · 22/03/2020 18:12

Very large Tesco near me had an early hour bowsing for nhs staff, car park full at 9.00, so i didn't bother. Went to B&Q for soil so i can potter in the garden. They did £106000 worth of business yesterday on dmainly decorating and gardening items. They will be open until they are ordered to shut by the government..

HundredMilesAnHour · 22/03/2020 18:15

I was shocked when I heard that Victoria Park Farmer's Market was going ahead today. It's narrow and crowded at the best of times. Really silly of them to go ahead.

I also heard that Broadway Market was really busy yesterday.

I know small businesses are trying to survive but this seems like a road to madness (and death).

Passenger42 · 22/03/2020 18:18

I think irrespective of irresponsible people going out and not social distancing you just need to look after yourself and your family and stay in. I’m fortunate to have a big garden for my son and I can work at home and I realise others aren’t so lucky. I think the police and armed forces will be out next week as we approach crisis

Connie222 · 22/03/2020 18:20

The photos of this weekend have scared me shitless, I’ll be honest. I don’t understand what the fuck people are doing.

Lincolnfield · 22/03/2020 18:39

We live in a rural area opposite woodland. The woods are literally across the road from our house. We’ve lived here for forty years and we exercise our dogs regularly in the woods. We’re trying to isolate as much as we can but we have three big working dogs. In normal times we would be up on the moors most days but we’re not going out except as necessary so we’re sticking to the woods. I take the dogs out at 6.30am for about an hour which is great, nobody around, and my husband and I take them again usually about 2pm for a second walk.

In normal times we’re lucky to see half a dozen other people in the woods, all dog walkers. Today we saw family groups together. Parents with kids and grandparents all out together, as many as four or five adults and two or three children making it really difficult to maintain a 2 metre distance - the paths are narrow. Kids running up to our dogs and thus close to us - thanks very much - without parents restraining them at all despite us clearly being ‘elderly’.

These are the people who never set foot in the great outdoors usually. I’m almost praying for a return to bad weather, then they’ll all bugger off home! We never see a soul when it’s raining.

I appreciate that everyone is wanting to get some exercise and fresh air but where has all common sense gone?

The80sweregreat · 22/03/2020 18:39

I am worried for our key workers.,
It's just horrible. I don't get this at all

DeRigueurMortis · 22/03/2020 18:47

Absolutely it beggars belief.

DH went out on his motorcycle this morning for a ride out - he didn't stop anywhere.

He says the roads were quieter than usual but there was a very noticeable number of campervans and caravans heading for the coast.

He also passed a local beauty spot. The car park and picnic area was heaving with people all in close proximity.

The fish and chip van there had a large queue with people not maintaining their distance.

He said he just want to stop and yell "what the hell are you playing at?".

We're utterly buggered if these dimwits don't start engaging the few brain cells they have.

Alsohuman · 22/03/2020 18:53

Same happened here. The bloke took the dog out at lunch time to a place where we normally never meet anyone. He said there were so many people there he gave up and went to an even more secret walk. Hope the buggers don’t discover that too.

Connie222 · 22/03/2020 18:56

I’d love to look one of these imbeciles in the eye and ask them why they are out in huge hoards of people - but then I’d have to get close to one and I really don’t want to..

There is no justifying it in my opinion.
They are being selfish to the extreme.

earnshaw47 · 22/03/2020 18:56

lock down will be next, thanks to the selfishness of some people

ALongHardWinter · 22/03/2020 19:16

Can I point out that it is NOT just the elderly who are ignoring the advice? I had to go out yesterday to pick up my repeat prescription and I saw far more young people out and about than elderly. There was a group of about 8 teenagers hanging around outside the shops, and nearly everyone that I saw get on or off the bus were under 50,I would guess. Stop blaming the elderly! (I'm not one btw yet,I'm 56).

Mothership4two · 22/03/2020 19:53

I live in a small town and people are definitely keeping a distance. Lots of elderly who are isolating but some walking dogs alone. We are getting some normal supplies (even loo paper!) just not there constantly and bought out in one day.Gaps in queues to keep a safe distance. I have not been near a supermarket in 2 weeks, just using local stores. Generally most people are trying to help out others. I'm here for two sets of neighbours who are over 70 and self isolating.

My parents live hundreds of miles away in a flat (in a city), but their neighbours in the same house are looking out for them too.I am so relieved as am full of guilt that I cannot be there for them. They are going to get a massive bouquet of flowers and a hug when this is over and I can get up there!

Ipadipod · 22/03/2020 19:56

I had to work today in a totally non essential place selling very expensive stock that absolutely doesn’t need to be purchased at the moment. It was bloody full of families and children, one woman coughing all over the place. One had a new born with them yesterday. I despair.

Some of my colleagues still have a very cavalier attitude towards this crisis- I had to walk away from one conversation for fear of losing my shit ! There really is no getting through to one man , I almost hope he gets it to make him realise that it’s serious and not just a bad cold ffs.

MythicalBiologicalFennel · 22/03/2020 20:01

Too many of them are still treating it as a joke

Yup. Some people feel they have to make a point and show everyone else that they don't buy into the so-called hysteria. Rules don't apply to them etc.

Ellamar · 22/03/2020 20:25

Child next door had a teacher that tested positive in his high school but yet the family are out and about. His younger siblings are out all day playing with children in the street. We let out little one in our back garden safest place hopefully.
I hope the government get stricter I dread to think what it will be like two weeks from now.

user1472151176 · 22/03/2020 20:26

It's terrifying that people feel they are invincible. Eventually they will run out of ITU beds and ventilators and the staff will have to start making impossible decisions between who has the best chance of survival. What make me cross is the fact it isn't just the old and vulnerable. Young people are needing ITU and ventilators too! They have a better chance of survival but some still need it and won't survive without it. I personally don't want to be one of those people that need one and find there arent any available or worse one of my children needing it. We are all in this together - no one is immune - we all need to just do our bit which involves sitting on our asses for a few weeks and just stay away from other people!!! Including family (that don't live in the same house)!!!!!

The80sweregreat · 22/03/2020 20:43

You would think they had found a vaccine already. I did read that 7 people died in 2016 from the plague!! I'm isolating and taken an interest in diseases!
If Ebola ever makes a comeback we really are doomed.

VK456 · 22/03/2020 20:58

I’m dreading creeping into town in the next couple of days. I’m down to my last few potatoes, am low on milk and eggs and have 4 slices of bread left. I’m afraid that my picture might end up in a newspaper and I’m mistaken for a panic buyer!
PS Am going to try and make soda bread tomorrow Grin
