Do you think the situation in the UK is going to end up being worse than Italy's?

Watching what is happening in Italy is so terrifying, it's a living nightmare and such a tragedy for all of them.

If the situation in the UK is still a couple of weeks behind, do you think our infection rate and death toll is going to be much higher than theirs? Sad

Almost certainly - people did not stop social contact early enough, and Italy has way more ICU beds than we do.

Grobagsforever · 20/03/2020 19:09

Reporting for spreading panic

Daffodil101 · 20/03/2020 19:11

No I don’t. We had warning, we’ve been preparing.

WhyNotMe40 · 20/03/2020 19:11

But it's the truth. We have much less hospital capacity and we have put enforcements in later

fucknotmeplease · 20/03/2020 19:11

@Grobagsforever Hardly spreading panic.. the Italy figures are hard fact. What I was asking is IF people think is if the UK figures will be higher.

yes

one look at active convo's and you've got people thinking its ok to go to the hairdressers/swimming/visiting

its all a choice and we are choosing to further the spread

LoadsaBlusher · 20/03/2020 19:12

I think it will

ilovecherries · 20/03/2020 19:12

I know I could scroll on by, and I usually do, but I don’t find those speculative threads at all helpful, they are designed to frighten.

Thescrewinthetuna · 20/03/2020 19:12

Yes, too many fucking morons here going for coffee or hair appointments etc

SapphireSalute · 20/03/2020 19:12

@Daffodil101

preparing? not quick enough i'm afraid

have you seen the figures for the uk?

SapphireSalute · 20/03/2020 19:13

its the truth

face up to it

fucknotmeplease · 20/03/2020 19:13

Where I live nobody I know is actually taking this seriously..

BeetrootRocks · 20/03/2020 19:15

Yes I think it will

Our high street was pretty busy today with people in barbers, hairdressers pubs cafes etc

I think in London a lot of people think they've been exposed already

Yes it's silly. It is what it is though.

LittleMonstersMummy · 20/03/2020 19:15

Considering that every coffee shop (five of them!) I walked past today in my tiny town was full to bursting, people here clearly aren't taking this seriously enough. I was out to buy emergency nappies, but everyone else is socialising loads. It's scary.

WhyNotMe40 · 20/03/2020 19:16

If you're not scared then something is wrong and you're denial or something. It is bloody scary. And we all need to act NOW. not tomorrow not one last playdate NOW

AutumnLeavesSeptember · 20/03/2020 19:17

At least as bad because we just don't have the healthcare capacity

Babyroobs · 20/03/2020 19:18

Yes because some stupid fuckers were just carrying on as normal. I have even heard of a Coronavirus party in my city amongst young people, many of whom have failed to take this seriously. Pubs and shops have been half full. Even one of my good friends who I considered one of the most sensible people I know was out at a St Patricks day celebration this week. In just the city I live in there are lots of three generational families all living in crowded conditions under one roof and with high incidence of heart problems and diabetes. I am hoping it wont be quite as bad as Italy but people have catastrophically failed to take this seriously enough as well as the government failing to enforce things quick enough.

GirlCalledJames · 20/03/2020 19:18

Of course it will

OhCrumbsWhereNow · 20/03/2020 19:19

We are already ahead of the Italian curve.

Yet people are still stressing about going to the gym, or out for mothers day or wondering if they can still visit family and meet up with friends.

We have pretty much ZERO real measures in place to slow this unless people have taken matters into their own hands and self-isolated.

My sister and I put our elderly parents into complete lockdown nearly 2 weeks ago in an attempt to keep them safe.

Hopefully the message from the PM's press conference tonight might start making an impact in some people's brains.

fucknotmeplease · 20/03/2020 19:20

I do think the government could have taken action faster. My workplace have also been slow to make the decision for us to work from home, it's only today that people have actually started to WFH. Absolute madness if you ask me! A full office is the perfect environment like this to spread.

The Health are system in Italy is much better resourced. Everywhere else seems to have a significantly higher number of ventilators relative to the population.

Worriedaboutundiagnosed · 20/03/2020 19:22

Yes, I'm afraid I do. Sad

ACupOfTeaSolvesEverything · 20/03/2020 19:23

Yes, too many fucking morons here going for coffee or hair appointments etc

This

OhCrumbsWhereNow · 20/03/2020 19:23

The Germans appear to be doing a very impressive job in keeping people alive.

Singapore and HK have flattened the curve - but they have taken pretty drastic measures to do it.

Amrapaali · 20/03/2020 19:23

Just now I heard on my WhatsApp group Northwick Park Hospital has closed as ICU is full capacity. The person who shared this is a GP so she knows what she is talking about...

I don't even know where this hospital is but looks like NHS infrastructure is beginning to crumble
