What are people thinking so far?

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 20/03/2020 17:22

It’s horseshit.

Mycoronausername · 20/03/2020 17:22

Really disappointed tbh. DH lost his job last week. He's classed as self employed. We have lost about £2000 a month and I'm not sure from this speech how we have been protected.

GalOopNorth · 20/03/2020 17:22

Sounds promising to me.

Just hope it is all straightforward to access.

I trust him more than Boris.

incywincyspiders · 20/03/2020 17:23

If he said unprecedented one more time I was going to jump through the tv and hit him.

DoubleAction · 20/03/2020 17:23

I just said to DH, I've no idea how we pay for it but the man will be PM!

sleepwhenidie · 20/03/2020 17:23

in what way Georgie? Confused

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 20/03/2020 17:23

To clarify, I’m self enjoyed and my income has been forcibly closed. I’m now entitled to £93/week instead of £72/week. How the fuck will that help?

unhappyclap · 20/03/2020 17:23

I will go back and listen, but i think he said sel-employed will be able to apply for UC. He didnt say anything about how long new applications would take before they get cash.

Disappointed about the 80% wages that was mentioned

OP posts:
Standrewsschool · 20/03/2020 17:24

I was quite impressed with him and what he was saying.

Even found Boris’s speech reassuring. I must be ill!

Greysparkles · 20/03/2020 17:24

But it's OK, because if you rent local housing will cover at least 30% of the cost?!?!?!

AlunWynsKnee · 20/03/2020 17:24

He sounded like he's been listening to Tony Blair speeches with his intonation and phrasing.

midgebabe · 20/03/2020 17:25

Plus support for housing costs? How much would you like? What price are you wanting to,put on my life?

unhappyclap · 20/03/2020 17:26

Yep you have to give it to him, regardless of if he is talking shit or not, he definitely delivers well and comes across as likeable, but this could all be a facade

OP posts:
Soontobe60 · 20/03/2020 17:26

@Mycoronausername
Please have a little faith that you will not be as badly off financially as you may think. I know it's still shit, but I think the measures are far greater than first thought.

PeepeeDarling · 20/03/2020 17:26

Future leader for sure.

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 20/03/2020 17:26

Yes because we know what a success UC is! Fucking joke.

DianaT1969 · 20/03/2020 17:27

It's good for employees but terrible for the self-employed. Access to SSP at £18 per day if you are ill and access to UC which is increasing by £1000 per year. So around £480 per month if you aren't sick + housing benefit.

HollyHocks13 · 20/03/2020 17:28

I never usually have anything positive to say about the Tories but... Rishi comes across very well, has a dignity about him and is,dare I say it, very prime ministerial..?

LoudBatPerson · 20/03/2020 17:29

But it's OK, because if you rent local housing will cover at least 30% of the cost?!?!?!

No, it was that local housing allowance would cover the full rent of 30% of market-rate properties in your local area.

CloudsCanLookLikeSheep · 20/03/2020 17:30

Yes I'm taking a bit of a shine to him...

Kelsoooo · 20/03/2020 17:30

Do you all want blood?

What would be your ideal outcome, come on you armchair economists...what would you do?

Each time they offer us more and more.

TokyoSushi · 20/03/2020 17:30

Rishi is excellent, should be in charge of this whole bloody mess!

Greysparkles · 20/03/2020 17:31

How much would I like? More than fucking 30%. What's that going to do?! If I'm out of work what help is 30%

Oakmaiden · 20/03/2020 17:33

Disappointed about the 80% wages that was mentioned

Really? Disappointed that instead of people losing their jobs and having to claim unemployment (or whatever it is now) they will still get 80% of their wage?

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 20/03/2020 17:34

Well tell us why employees will get 80% and self employed get 30%? Tell us honestly how you can think this is fair?
