All to close, restaurants allowed to do takeaway food only, from tonight

The decision will be reviewed each month (I rewound to check he said month) and be updated as we go

@happymummy12345 do you currently get help with housing costs? You should do if not. It is still stressful, but what more can they do? It's an unprecendented global pandemic. People can have mortgage breaks, they have made it so that people cannot be evicted for late payment of rent, and have put into place measures never seen before in our history.

lyralalala · 20/03/2020 17:49

Still unclear about swimming pools? If it's not tied to a leisure centre can it stay open?

She specifically said anywhere people exercise indoor has to close

Hotels not mentioned whereas a lot of them have restaurants within .

SapphireSalute · 20/03/2020 17:50

swimming pools? no, they should surely be closed....the germs!!

didnt hear about non food shops though

AudacityOfHope · 20/03/2020 17:51

Seriously, you're wondering about swimming pools and parks? You go to neither. It should be clear enough by now.

Sexnotgender · 20/03/2020 17:51

How about shutting religous gatherings? Some have hundreds of people in very close vicinity, or are they too scared?

What are you talking about? This has already been done.

ilovesooty · 20/03/2020 17:51

What about hotels?

adaline · 20/03/2020 17:52

No. All indoor exercise space needs to close.

It's about bloody time.

HarrietThePi · 20/03/2020 17:52

Yeah that's what I was thinking. Some people just aren't getting this.

LuluJakey1 · 20/03/2020 17:52

They seem to be offering a range of support but they can not replace everything that people will lose. There will be hardships, no doubt.

There will be more to come I am sure but they can't replace everything.

covetingthepreciousthings · 20/03/2020 17:52

Non essential shops still seem to be perfectly fine to stay open then! 🤦🏻‍♀️

Wish they'd just close them too, otherwise that's where all the families and teens will flock to now.

adaline · 20/03/2020 17:53

Surely they just can close the restaurants and supply room service instead?

Pomegranatemolasses · 20/03/2020 17:53

Ireland did this days ago

MereDintofPandiculation · 20/03/2020 17:54

The employee retention scheme paying 80% of wages up to £2500 for some employers will really help a lot of people Not those who've already been laid off. A big employer in my area laid off a whole lot of staff yesterday.

GetOffTheTableMabel · 20/03/2020 17:54

I missed the actual announcement and cannot find mention of hairdressers and beauty salons. Have they also been closed? (I have been arguing with my DM about this and would love it if they just shut them).

lyralalala · 20/03/2020 17:54

Anyone who was employed on 28th February can be covered by the 80% thing. So hopefully a lot of people who've lost jobs this weeks will be back on companies books and getting paid asap

Somebody will be along to ask about soft play next...

cinammonbuns · 20/03/2020 17:56

Those who are students but also on zero hour contracts? How will they be able to claim universal credit?

lyralalala · 20/03/2020 17:56

@MereDintofPandiculation I meant to tag you in my last post. It applied to people who were employed in Feb 28th. So basically backdated to the start of this

Why do people persist in looking for loopholes? The message is clear.

Stay at home, do not meet other people. You can go for a walk, run or bike ride somewhere you can keep your distance from others.

You can do food-shopping.

That is it. Nothing else.

HoldMyLobster · 20/03/2020 17:56

I'd assume it'll be the same as the US where as soon as restaurants were closed down, hotels had to close their restaurants to dine-in business.

Having said that, some hotels are being used for medical personnel, and I wonder if there's a way their restaurant facilities can be used to help keep them fed.

Oblomov20 · 20/03/2020 17:56

It's best. Stupid people were ignoring the advice anyway and going out, meeting with friends. Idiots.

Really he should call a total lockdown. To stop the idiots. I'm prepared to put up with that, to make others obey the rules!

Kbeeb1992 · 20/03/2020 17:57

Does anyone know or have heard anything about flights outside the country ? My husband is marine engineer and needs to fly to holland to get to work, is that classed as essential travel? I would say so as we rely in his wage but they are not very specific about it . Any advice thanks .

Lulu1919 · 20/03/2020 17:57

Hotels ?

adaline · 20/03/2020 17:57

I missed the actual announcement and cannot find mention of hairdressers and beauty salons. Have they also been closed?

No. Shops and other establishments like salons and barbers are still open for trading.
