I've been wearing dustmask and gloves to get groceries. I don't know why people stare at me for it. Also dettol the groceries

MarshaBradyo · 22/03/2020 00:33

There won’t be riots at any point even when death rate sky rockets. It might be the first thing that gets people to stay inside.

MarshaBradyo · 22/03/2020 00:34

Nelly that does make me worry very much.

Nononoandno · 22/03/2020 00:39

It’s late and people are getting really hysterical, please keep calm follow the advice stay home, keep busy, take one day at a time. Switch off social media and the tv... take a break from CV.
If other people want to be selfish and stupid there’s not a lot you can do, just keep your own shit together and help others if it is safe and you are able to.

My granny’s mother died in child birth so my granny was an orphan from birth in 1899, survived and lived through two world wars buried two sons, spanishflu etc, she is my role model I will think of her and keep my shit together, if CV gets me then it gets me, but I will not listen to this hysteria. We are being tested just do the right thing!

MarshaBradyo · 22/03/2020 00:41

No one is really hysterical? But I do need to sleep. An issue thee days.

Imerc · 22/03/2020 00:43

Nelly I've found that i dont argue with my dc anymore, all the daily stress has stopped. Also their asthma symptoms have stopped, after months of coughing

NellyGrace · 22/03/2020 00:53

We argue because we are falling over each other. Knocking into one another. The kids need to move and run and be free. They are going mad.

We get out for walks at the moment. But when that stops it will be worse.

This is our life not hysteria. It is testing yes. More for some than others.

If I believed lockdown was the answer. Fine. But I don’t. It will delay and exacerbate the problem.

NellyGrace · 22/03/2020 00:56

From another thread: There is no need for a lockdown. What we should be doing is rapidly expanding our testing capacity and telling those who are vulnerable to self-isolate.

South Korea is getting through this by testing everyone with symptoms and then isolating people who are positive and their contacts.

That would be far more effective than populist but stupid measures like lockdowns.

MarshaBradyo · 22/03/2020 00:58

Nelly it’s too late to do what South Korea did. Our numbers are too high.

Lweji · 22/03/2020 01:04

What we should be doing is rapidly expanding our testing capacity and telling those who are vulnerable to self-isolate.

Perhaps you can go back in time and convince Johnson to do this a couple of weeks ago.

Imerc · 22/03/2020 01:14

To be fair I just have one that plays xbox most of the time

Imerc · 22/03/2020 01:20

It scares me, being trapped inside, trapped in the inner city and at high risk of infection every time we step out the door. I think it will happen soon, and at that point it will be tearing through all cities

PeterWeg · 22/03/2020 05:38

"That would be far more effective than populist but stupid measures like lockdowns"
South Korea is in total lockdown, with face masks

VivaLeBeaver · 22/03/2020 06:05

An nhs dr has written he’s heard Italy has stopped intubating anyone over 60. Someone who is 61 is not old and infirm. I get they have to prioritise but it’s shocking that the line has been drawn there and demonstrates how bad it must be.

Stilllivinghere · 22/03/2020 07:02

Our cases are more widespread- compared to Italy and China. So, does that make it harder to compare our death figures/lockdown date.

Eeyoresstickhouse · 22/03/2020 07:25

Surely to god we need a lockdown from today. Announce it after all the shops have shut at 4 or 5pm. I am getting more and more worried as the time goes on.

Mary1935 · 22/03/2020 07:38

I’m asking if someone would post the very first thread on this please.
I only started reading late in the day.
We are all sensible and responsible adults on here who are taking this very seriously.
I feel like the government need to be out in the street with tannoys telling people to go home and shop when necessary.
I’m not scare mongering.
We will be Italy make no mistake.
We are likely to be worse.
The passing on of the virus needs to stop where it can.
Boris may want to show the videos coming out of Italy and the British doctor who is already saying they are reaching there capacity already.
The community needs to wake up ASAP.

TwentyViginti · 22/03/2020 07:38

I'm 65 and really worried about Italy's age criteria. I understand it, of course younger people should be prioritised, but I have no underlying conditions except meds mananaged hypertension, and not ready to kick the bucket quite yet!

mrshoho · 22/03/2020 07:42

And even today flights are still arriving at our airports from all over the world including Rome and Tehran!! This was Heathrow this morning. Are the travellers on these flights going straight into quarantine? There is little point checking their temps as we know they may be asymptomatic but still infected. I would like a journalist to ask these questions at the next press conference.

GingerLemonTea · 22/03/2020 07:46

Selfisolatingsince. You need to get home. Things are changing so fast. Get home while you can.

MarshaBradyo · 22/03/2020 07:47

MrsHoho think we’re beyond that now. So many community cases we’ve got it just as much.

nancypineapple · 22/03/2020 07:56

What I can't get my head round is the tests used in South Korea take 10 minutes. Why can't we do the same? Why does our government not go to theirs and plead for them and buy the technology. Just watched a programme on how our scientists are trying to create a new quicker test.

Quartz2208 · 22/03/2020 07:57

@NellyGrace I think the paper suggested that now you need a 3 ish month lockdown to reduce transmission. At the end of that which should reduce the spread and clear it then you follow the approach of testing and isolating until it’s over
Sounds perfectly logical though

mrshoho · 22/03/2020 08:00

Yes Marsha but we do also need to shut down our borders. A constant stream of likely infected travellers who proceed to move through our public transport system where our essential workers are also moving through is a not good. And of course entering our food shops and hospitals. It does not add up that we are being given the message to isolate but at the same time travellers are entering and spreading the disease.

MarshaBradyo · 22/03/2020 08:07

MrsHoho
How do you know they are not British returning home? Are people really travelling now, if they are it’s against FCO advice.
