www.hsj.co.uk/news/hospitals-critical-care-unit-overwhelmed-by-coronavirus-patients/7027189.article

A senior director at another London acute trust told HSJ: “Given we’re in the low foothills of this virus, this is f*ing petrifying.

“The thing people aren’t really talking about yet is that we are going to have to quickly agree some clinical thresholds for admissions to intensive care. This is what the Italians have had to do, and whether it’s set at 60 or whatever, we are going to have to do something similar. There’s no way we’re going to be able to scale up to the level we need otherwise.

“The trusts in outer London seem to be hit much worse at the moment, probably about two weeks ahead of the rest of the country. Barnet, Lewisham and Greenwich, Epsom and St Helier, North Middlesex and Hillingdon are all struggling.

“I was in denial about the seriousness of this virus a couple of weeks ago, but not anymore.

“I’m now on calls with commissioners about getting more people out of hospital and into the community, and they’re saying ’yes that’ll be done in the next week’, and I’m on the verge of screaming at them. Things are going completely nuts.

“And there’s a real problem with private care homes refusing to take patients back unless they’ve been tested for covid-19. But that’s not the national guidance currently and there just aren’t enough testing kits to do it.”

Not seen any plans for casualty clearing stations of partly recovered elderly who no longer are too sick for hospital but too infectious to go back to very vulnerable care homes.

They need to sort this quite as the hospitals can't afford the blocked beds on this one.

Evening standard says the pub closures etc in London will be from monday.

That is utterly INSANE given how London hospitals are already struggling.

Deaths up by 40 to 184. Is that the whole UK number because they didn't update the positive tests.

Bussiness inside - 'Another 18 people have died in London hospitals in the past 24 hours as coronavirus cases in the city continue to surge well above the level found in the rest of the UK.
According to new data published by NHS England this afternoon, the deaths took place at the following hospitals:

Imperial College Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust - 4
Chelsea and Westminster NHS Foundation Trust – 3
London North West University Healthcare NHS Trust – 1
Kings College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust – 4
St George's University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust – 3
University College London Hospitals NHS Trust – 1
Croydon Health Services NHS Trust - 2'

None in east London today oddly.

RedToothBrush · 20/03/2020 15:48

and we doing nothing futher till monday it seems.

I've said this for the last couple of weeks. Our country is incapable of working weekends. The virus obviously takes the weekend off in the UK.

Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust said it has transferred Covid-19 patients to neighbouring hospitals, as demand for lifesaving treatment surges.

A senior clinician at the trust revealed that at one stage on Tuesday only one patient had been admitted to intensive care out of an eligible group of five, although the trust insists all who have required ventilation have so far received it.

THEY RAN OUT OF CAPACITY ON TUESDAY.

Today is Friday. No more measures until Monday??? Really?

We will see shortly but if thats the case there will be big questions asked by the weekend papers over the wisdom of that... Lots of photos of people at bars are not going to be a good look.

where are these deaths coming from if the serious/critical number has remained at 20 for days!?

Inpatients who contracted the disease on general wards who were not previously respiratory related. These patients haven't been tested automatically. The virus spreads fast throughout hospitals and as no testing other than for those with respiratory symptoms. Been saying this for ages.

Also people coming straight in from home to critical care and again not previously tested. I've seen shocking footage on our local fb community page of people being taken out by ambulanc3cin full hazmat suit. I didn't want to post on as quite shocking.

If cv19 patients are bed blocking, on the mend but still infectious, and our hotels are empty because of lockdowns?

Come on, it's not rocket science.

Surely they can use the hotels as a recovery quarantine area?
