Is anyone in a job where they are not concerned about it’s future?

Just curious really.
What jobs are going to experience relatively little interruption or at least be assured of a role to return to...
NHS staff (thank you thank you)
Teachers/other school staff (thank you also)
People working for supermarkets? (Thank you too!)
Manufacturers of toilet paper???

What industries are going to fare best through this?

DH is in the entertainment industry so we’re probably screwed.

Work for small company, Brexit and now this hit us very hard and orders are non existentSad Hopefully shouldn't be unemployed for very as my skills aren't very common

Ilovemyjob007 · 18/03/2020 19:53

Very lucky - DH making prescription drugs but at the moment they are making paracetamol due to demand. I am a Care worker. Lucky in one sense but will no be able to be in lockdown as we will have to continue working through it all

LoveBeingAMum555 · 18/03/2020 19:54

Local Government, so my job is safe but I wonder what the town that I work to support will be like when all this is over.

Nekoness · 18/03/2020 20:11

I’m thinking about the knock-on effect and all the belt-tightening we will be doing for the next 6 months. We had planned on getting several large trees pruned in the garden. Redoing the fences.

Won’t be doing either now, so there’s two jobs a gardener and a fencing company won’t get from us for another year at least :-(

Courgetteandbeans · 18/03/2020 20:12

Pharma... reckon we'll be OK.

Skade · 18/03/2020 20:15

I have two NHS roles and also work for local police force on a work from home basis, so I'm relatively sure I'm safe. DH is self-employed and has a manufacturing business which I think will really struggle. Have never been so glad for public sector jobs, last year I was self-employed.

I work in primary care. There is no chance anything will ever quieten down

Bluebell1995 · 18/03/2020 20:20

I feel lucky that I work in healthcare so my job and income is secure.

Mentally, I am not feeling good about the massive backlog and consequences of Covid-19. Many cancer and screening patients are being cancelled for the foreseeable and there's going to be huge knock on effects in the NHS for staff and patients.

Supermum29 · 18/03/2020 20:31

I work in insurance and my partner is a police officer. We should both be ok but I really really feel for those that are struggling Flowers

Violinist64 · 18/03/2020 20:34

I'm a private music teacher and am going to switch to online lessons next week. The parents are generally being extremely supportive.

Potterurotter · 18/03/2020 20:35

Adult social care, firm job security

Fr0g · 18/03/2020 20:35

@Nquartz - not a huge amount, but think long haul rather than a few weeks,

nearlyfinished1moreyear · 18/03/2020 20:35

NHS support worker here so safe. My OH is in construction but employed through an agency, we don't know if the current situation will have any affect on his job.

audweb · 18/03/2020 20:37

Social care regulation so safe. Will be drafted in to frontline care if needed and then go back once it calms down.

Menora · 18/03/2020 20:39

@Bluebell1995

Agree that mentally a lot of things are really horrible right now in this respect

DrDreReturns · 18/03/2020 20:42

I'm in IT. I'm ok at the moment but if this goes on for more than six months I could be screwed. A few clients have cancelled projects and if no work is coming through after a few months the company will have to make redundancies. Some of our clients are retail based and could be affected very badly by this. I'm fortunate compared to people in hospitality but my job isn't completely secure.

bondbaby · 18/03/2020 20:46

Coroner's Officer - guess we'll be pretty busy in the next few weeks sadly.

flyingspaghettimonster · 18/03/2020 21:23

Husband works as a scientist in a genetics lab so his job should be safe and pay him throughout... except his boss is 87 and 8f he dies. The lab closes and we lose our right to be in America, so we lose our home, achools and lifestyle entirely. I am so conerened about his health. Luckily ye is isolated and not coming to the lab for the near future at least

tanyavt · 18/03/2020 21:32

Handed my notice in last week to start a new job on 6th April and using up holiday owed...should've got the holiday paid out as they're now all in lockdown and no ideas what'll happen with the new job ... still mental health improving as job was awful... silver linings?

Lalalabrador · 18/03/2020 21:35

Civil servant. Dom’s more of a threat.

altiara · 18/03/2020 21:46

I work for a pharmaceutical company in clinical research. So while long term we should be ok, our current concern on our trials are patients that can’t/don’t want to go into hospital, can’t take their study medicines, how do we get the medicine to them, do they need blood tests first.... then depending on long this lasts, the clinical trial data may or may not be any good. If we don’t have any data, then we’re screwed.
I mean this happens a lot anyway, billions spent on drugs that don’t work, but it’s not usually everything.
I currently work on trials with patients that are very at risk of the virus so it’s a double whammy for them. They’re at risk and then all the research being done to get new drugs for the patients is on hold as we need them for the trials.

claireyjs · 18/03/2020 22:03

I teach so my job will be there if I am still around to do it!

MaryShelley1818 · 18/03/2020 22:06

Pidgythe2nd · 18/03/2020 22:11
