Is anyone in a job where they are not concerned about it’s future?

Just curious really.
What jobs are going to experience relatively little interruption or at least be assured of a role to return to...
NHS staff (thank you thank you)
Teachers/other school staff (thank you also)
People working for supermarkets? (Thank you too!)
Manufacturers of toilet paper???

What industries are going to fare best through this?

DH is in the entertainment industry so we’re probably screwed.

Police. I think I'm safe. :(

AgentCooper · 18/03/2020 17:43

University administrator. Though we’ve no students on campus right now we are still teaching and will deliver assessment by distance so I reckon we’re ok.

MrsMouse03 · 18/03/2020 17:46

I work in the wedding industry so future not very certain. Feeling quite stressed about working from home as DH and DS16 will be doing the same. I may need a large bottle of gin!

I'm a SAHM and my husband works at power plants around the country. The big job he was due to start in 2 weeks has now been cancelled due to this so after he's worked his 2 weeks notice we actually have no idea what's going to happen!

Whycantibeapuppy · 18/03/2020 17:48

I’m a nanny. I lost my permanent job a month ago and have been doing temp jobs since. I’ve gone from being fully booked to not a single booking and no families are booking in advance. My partner is a decorator and has had every job cancelled. We are having a serious and sad conversation today about giving notice on our place and moving somewhere where the rent is half the price just so we can afford to live off our savings As we just don’t know what is going to happen in the near future.

Abelino · 18/03/2020 17:48

Civil service, but in corporate property so I don't know whether to feel secure or not. In the short term I think I'm ok, at least.

SLKsMum · 18/03/2020 17:55

Air traffic controller. Already feeling concerned.

Illbeagransoon · 18/03/2020 17:57

I'm retired. I thought my pension was ok, but think again...

Angrywife · 18/03/2020 17:58

I work in childrens safe guarding but not in a statutory role so our jobs will probably be ok but no guarantees

Pinkbunny2811 · 18/03/2020 18:01

I'm front line NHS so job security is there. The way I was treated last night though... I might even quit 🙄... especially if they suspend my mortgage!

Honestly though, we don't have anything we need at the best of times, let alone when stuff is in demand.

notreallydumb · 18/03/2020 18:03

DH will be fine works in food logistics busy trying to get supplies to supermarkets.....plenty of stock in RDC's just that people have panicked.

I am a ITC nurse so I will be busy

Hels0703 · 18/03/2020 18:08

I'm a prison officer. I've had a week off and due back to work tomorrow. We have a very high percentage of elderly prisoners at my prison. It's going to be a tough ride for us too, not only dealing with lots of deaths, but also dealing with irate angry frightened prisoners who tend to take everything out on us. But I know that I have a secure job (pun intended) at least.

lolo14 · 18/03/2020 18:19

NHS and feeling very fortunate to be public sector right now. My thoughts are with anyone doing financial challenge as a result of all of this :(

lolo14 · 18/03/2020 18:20

Facing not doing!

wooo69 · 18/03/2020 18:21

I work for one of the 10 largest Housing Associations in England. We are now working from home doing phone appointments and out tenants are only having emergency repairs and gas services completed. The only face to face contact we will have until further notice are property viewings and sign ups. We have questions to ask people before booking appointments for these. I still think we will be ok, we have 1200 staff, people will always have a need for housing. My daughters are a midwife and a teacher so I think they will be ok.

Ferret27 · 18/03/2020 18:22

Sorry for this ... but undertakers are never out of work !

Ineedaslap · 18/03/2020 18:29

Tourism. I am seriously concerned that I might not have a job in a few months, or if I do the salary will be cut to stay open.

DH is in the energy sector, it's not looking great for him either.

I am just hoping and praying that this will all resolve in a couple of months as the alternative is to horrid to think about.

Shallistayorshalligo · 18/03/2020 18:30

I am a childminder.. I am very worried that since of my parts may lose their job and I lose their kids as a result.. I have offered free care for my school kids for this period of time. I think we all need to look after each other in this horrible uncertainty

Redyellowpink · 18/03/2020 18:33

I'm starting on the Civil Service fast stream in Sept Confused no idea what that will be like!

SunsetOverEasterIsland · 18/03/2020 18:34

Currently work in admin for a school but about to start similar job in NHS, so hopefully secure.

maa1992 · 18/03/2020 18:37

Not sure I'm on mat leave, I manage a healthcare agency so who knows

SilverOtter · 18/03/2020 18:38

I'm currently training to be a doctor. I'm glad to be going into a secure job, but I wish I could do more to help right now!

TesticleMeElmo · 18/03/2020 18:40

Charity worker here. Pretty sure I’m screwed.

TheMostHappy · 18/03/2020 18:46

Civil service here working with offenders, so I should be ok, but thoughts are with people who are understandably anxious.
