BNO Newsroom - 'BREAKING: Italy reports 3,526 new cases and 345 new deaths, raising total to 31,506 cases and 2,503 dead.'

kirinm · 17/03/2020 17:21

I hope they have a solution for renters because we are going to see a lot of people homeless quickly otherwise.

PleaseStopCrying · 17/03/2020 17:22

Im hoping someone asks about renters and am surprised to see nothing regarding other bills such as utilities and council tax.

SistemaAddict · 17/03/2020 17:22

My family are idiots. Relatives gone to Dubai; another relative says his wife most likely has coronavirus but instead of isolating himself he's gone into work because they've not closed yet Hmm I wonder regularly how I am related to them.

NettleTea · 17/03/2020 17:22

our business is going to be fucked.
We are an agricultural business, with holiday cottage/glampingsite that brings in just about all of our income, so we are in the leisure/hospitality industry.
we dont pay business rates - its a council tax n the farm property because of agricultural tenancy, so we dont get the rates reduction.
we have no rateable value so we cant claim the grant - big or small.
we dont count as a small/medium business because of the rateable value thing.
The mortgage is an agricultural one so we wont qualify for the 3 month mortgage holiday.
Everyone is cancelling their stays, as to be expected.

Angryrant55 · 17/03/2020 17:24

Mark Lowen -'#Coronavirus deaths in #Italy jump to 2503, rising by 345 in a day. Total cases up to 31,506. That's a rise of 12.6% - the slowest rate of increase since the outbreak began. Tragic numbers again but could containment measures be slowing the rise?'

SansaSnark · 17/03/2020 17:27

@NettleTea That sounds really tough- is it worth contacting your MP for advice? Do you have any insurances that are able to help out?

Horehound · 17/03/2020 17:27

I don't see the bad thing re. loans.
They have to do something to keep the economy going

bananacakeZ · 17/03/2020 17:28

Ffs they are going to have to close the schools surely, so instead of the mess we are seeing how about some leadership on this like every other country in the western world?

SansaSnark · 17/03/2020 17:29

@BarbedBloom As if this government cares about renters!

PleaseStopCrying · 17/03/2020 17:30

He skirtedvthe question about his father who despite being over 70 he was on national TV and said this morning he would still go to the pub.

Eeyoresstickhouse · 17/03/2020 17:31

What about early years providers????? We are storing up a childcare crisis when all this is over as they will not survive! They are already massively underfunded.

Does anyone here work for the media that can highlight this massive issue?

BarbedBloom · 17/03/2020 17:34

@SansaSnark Very true. I am getting more and more angry about all of this

Angryrant55 · 17/03/2020 17:36

Lewis Goodall - 'PM: "We understand where people are on schools and it's something we're keeping under constant review."

From my conversations with many teachers this afternoon, it's something many are expecting.'

NettleTea · 17/03/2020 17:36

@SansaSnark you dont even want to know about the insurance!
Im in a situation where we should have had a disruption to business thing added to the policy last November. They either didnt sent the quote, OR my father in law, in his absolute wisdome, rejected paying the extra payment.

Horehound · 17/03/2020 17:36

@bananacakez why? It will make problems worse!

middleager · 17/03/2020 17:38

I love the way they talk about planning.
Erm aren't we just the same as Italy was with no 'plan'

If this is the outcome with a 'plan' then heaven help us without one Confused

SansaSnark · 17/03/2020 17:38

@NettleTea Oh no!

I do think it sounds like the government wants to support businesses, so I do think contacting your MP and explaining you will fall through the cracks of all the support might be worth a go!

Youngatheart00 · 17/03/2020 17:38

I actually think this is a pretty brave, impactful and far reaching set of measures, and it’s clear we haven’t heard the last as there is talk of announcing further measures in the coming days.

I would really encourage businesses or individuals to SPEAK DIRECTLY TO THEIR OWN BANK - I work for a major bank and our stance is ultra supportive. I know people have a distrust of banks but to may be surprised. We have been instructed from the very top to support.

fedup21 · 17/03/2020 17:39

why? It will make problems worse!

Read the post on here by the teacher writing what’s it was like in her school today-that is only going to get worse.

I think schools will be closed very soon.

kirinm · 17/03/2020 17:41

Once schools close, parents can't work. Businesses will not be able to function. NHS staff will not be able to attend work. Closing the schools is going to worsen the economic situation and likely be detrimental to saving people's lives.

Angryrant55 · 17/03/2020 17:43

But has that happened in italy france or spain.

PleaseStopCrying · 17/03/2020 17:43

Closing the schools is going to worsen the economic situation and likely be detrimental to saving people's lives.

It may worsen the economic situation but lets be honest its going to happen, not because they have been asked to close but because there simply won't be enough staff who are well enough to hit ratios.

SansaSnark · 17/03/2020 17:44

I'm seriously interested in how the NHS functions over the summer holidays.

I know of a school that's open to children of frontline staff and Y11/12/13 only tomorrow- I think more will follow suit.

If schools can't open safely, due to low staffing numbers, parents will have to find a way to manage.

Delatron · 17/03/2020 17:46

They’re starting to stagger age groups here too.
