Suppression, Taiwan, mobile phone technology.

Following I someone's who was positive then tracing everyone they came near.

Sir Patrick says in January yes. That would have been good.

WHY are they looking into now!! Why now!!

Staff can't look after patients if they are ill.

' one week ago I was wearing full ppe, now we are not, I'm terrified' sir Patrick what's your reaction.

Question needs Togo to NHS!!

Sir Patrick bat's it off.

Jeremy Hunt seems to be our one-man opposition these days. Wtf happened to Labour? It’s like they’re in hibernation.

Eeyoresstickhouse · 17/03/2020 14:24

Never in a million years would I have thought I would be sitting here agreeing with Hunt.

He has made perfect sense. He is asking the questions we want answering. And yet the 'adviser' is trying to deflect.

Angryrant55 · 17/03/2020 14:26

Daily Mail Online - 'Two members of WHO staff are infected with
coronavirus.'

Paul Brand - ' NEW: Government is working towards 20,000 deaths as the best case scenario from #coronavirus. Chief Scientific Advisor says flu deaths are usually 8k, so if deaths could be reduced to 20k that would be considered a 'good outcome' in the dreadful circumstances.'

Charlie Cooper - 'Chief Scientific Adviser Patrick Vallance tells health committee that it is a "a reasonable ballpark" estimate that for every death from coronavirus there are 1,000 cases in the community. Seems a more accurate way to measure where we are than the official confirmed cases.'

Spiraeah · 17/03/2020 14:26

What channel is this on? I put the bbc on but it’s just “Five Bedrooms” not a new programme?

Angryrant55 · 17/03/2020 14:26

Sky News Breaking - 'The Scottish government says another person has died with COVID-19 bringing the total number of deaths in Scotland up to two with the total number of cases up to 195.'

Jeremy is a piercing lazer and I'm applauding him.

He looks together, visceral and has the anger needed to pin these modelers down and try and salvage this utter wreck.

Jeremy for PM!!

Overthrow Bozo!!!

Ventilatorshortage · 17/03/2020 14:29

On schools!!

But the man didn't pose the grand parent issue well.

Complicated effects. Singapore and Taiwan apparently didn't close schools.

RedToothBrush · 17/03/2020 14:29

@zenday
I'm not understanding your "WTAF" I'm in the US and here we have a decentralized government. The Governors are deciding what's best for their own states. I'm in the rural part Eastern Washington State.

The problem with telling individual states to get their own equipment is that the whole country needs to coordinate to protect it.

If Kentucky can get 500 ventilators but California can't get any and people are dying in their thousands, and Kentucky isn't overwhelmed but isn't willing to share then that's a problem.

A major issue in one state is liable to make people move out of fear.

I also worry about Trump potentially using this as a way to 'punish' blue states with the emphasis on individual states to look after their own.

DressingGownofDoom · 17/03/2020 14:31

Hi everyone. It's getting harder and harder to keep up with these threads.

LunaDeet · 17/03/2020 14:32

Isn’t Corbyn age 70? He’s probably self isolating at home for 12 weeks

defthand · 17/03/2020 14:33

lol @LunaDeet

Quartz2208 · 17/03/2020 14:33

Looking at it Singapore havent yet closed school

I think the feeling is a 2 week school closure doesnt help it needs to be a longer term one

Thats why I think we havent done it yet. I expect it to be for most of April/May

Eeyoresstickhouse · 17/03/2020 14:33

6000 tests. Looks like they’ve worked out they need to test to get people to take thus seriously. 👍

Lynamic · 17/03/2020 14:36

I thought you meant it about Italy

BREAKING: UK coronavirus cases soar to 1,950 as 407 more patients test positive t.co/xyXnE7jtRB t.co/BcpGxavshu

Gammeldragz · 17/03/2020 14:37

Big jump in tests too though which is good.

SistemaAddict · 17/03/2020 14:37

If only Hunt had been this good when he was in post.

Both schools are preparing to close now and are putting work online.

My cough is getting worse although at this point I've had it nearly two weeks. My chest is tight and aches when I cough. Hard to know what is asthma and what is virus. I have oral steroids but reluctant to take them unless advised by the GP (they are my usual rescue pack for exacerbations, not prescribed for this).

defthand · 17/03/2020 14:38

As of 9am on 17 March 2020, 50,442 people have been tested in the UK, of which 48,492 were confirmed negative and 1,950 were confirmed as positive. The latest confirmed number of deaths will be announced later today.

www.gov.uk/guidance/coronavirus-covid-19-information-for-the-public

[Number of tests prior to today was 44,105]

Ventilatorshortage · 17/03/2020 14:41

Bercow I thought I read somewhere steroids are not good for this?

Jrobhatch29 · 17/03/2020 14:42

Am i working this out wrong? 20,000 deaths as best case scenario. But they say for every death, there is 1000 cases in community. 20,000 x 1000 is 20,000000 cases??
