Think would be good to keep this thread going! Will link to the previous threads in a bit.

HouseElfy Hi,I think from what I read that if you're self isolating due to conditions, then you can still go out,as long as you keep a distance of 2m away from people. So defo still hit up the parks/countryside if you drive (although having lived in London,I know it may take you a while to get there!). I live in Leicester city and am lucky to have a garden and a meadow just behind my house and even though I have to self isolate because I'm 29weeks,I still intend on walking in the meadow and along the tow path to get my dose of vitamin D!

I just had a thought that not everyone in cities will be gardenless. Wouldn't it be great if people opened up their gardens for people who live in flats to come and spend some time in a couple of times a week? Obviously if you're self isolating, you'd have to keep your distance from the person, but I think you could defo work it logistically.

Layladylay234 · 17/03/2020 06:15

Oh yeah, and not sure if you've got a balcony, but maybe plant some flowers/veg with your son as well. X

HouseElfy · 17/03/2020 06:17

My mum has a garden, she is 30 mins away. Honestly we are not big outdoor types anyway and I think this will bother us less than others, but will defo still need some fresh air and exercise.

I can drive but I haven't yet passed my test - it is 2 weeks away and I'm guessing it is going to be cancelled. So frustrating as was so close!

HouseElfy · 17/03/2020 06:17

No balcony sadly

Useryokyesno · 17/03/2020 07:22

I posted on the other one. Thought I'd killed the thread. Just woken up feeling anxious. Sending good wishes to everyone else feeling the same. I have anxiety anyway which I take medication for so this isn't working well for me!!

Layladylay234 · 17/03/2020 07:31

That's good about going to your mum's if she's not over 70. If no balcony, could grow stuff on your windowsill?

Useryokyesno · 17/03/2020 07:41

I've caught up with the thread a bit and wanted to share a positive plan or two. Im having a bath in a sec. Less active than a shower which can be hard to face but im getting clean!

Also going to make a timetable of activities to do at home for me and my partner. One I suggested yesterday was doing cocktail hour. I hardly drink but we do have a good range of stuff in. So I thought making some up would be fun. We've got some blood oranges at the mo as they're in season. Thinking something with them.

I've also downloaded a game on my phone I used to play ages ago called blockheads. Something to do with my phone that's not reading about covid.

PineappleDanish · 17/03/2020 07:49

Morning all. Another sunny morning here so going to try to get out for a walk when I can. Had a good day yesterday, not feeling so great today to be honest but think it's just going to be up and down.

Main worry is the long term effects on DH's job in aviation. If anyone could link to online CBT stuff about reframing worries that would be lovely.

DianneWhatcock · 17/03/2020 07:51

Thank you for starting the thread op

I just started one as didn't notice this one! Sorry 😳

HouseElfy · 17/03/2020 08:05

That's good about going to your mum's if she's not over 70.

Well I thought that but people on the other thread are saying not to. Mum is early 50s with no underlying issues.

StCharlotte · 17/03/2020 08:06

DianneWhatcock

So did I! Blush

Have no idea how to get it deleted so have put a link to this thread on it.

MrsQCH · 17/03/2020 08:32

Glad I found this thread...
34 weeks pregnant and starting to find the worry of the unknown is getting to me a bit now... I had some pre-natal anxiety before this situation even kicked off!
But...take each day as it comes I suppose! I'm still sending my 3 year old to nursery and I have a few more weeks of work yet (I can WFH) - just trying to put off the time I have to try and entertain her in the house Confused
But I will keep checking in with this thread and stay away from the others from now on I think!
Thanks ladies Flowers

Spudlet · 17/03/2020 08:38

Woke up having a wobble today, so I’ve just bleached all the door handles, taps and light switches. Makes me feel a bit more in control of things.

I’ve also put my name into the pot of people ready to help those in the village who have to self-isolate. Helping others can really help you to feel like you’re doing something good and useful, rather than being helpless. I think, anyway.

Spudlet · 17/03/2020 08:38

Although one of the lights is now flickering and DH got a shock off the switch Blush I may have been over-enthusiastic with my infection control measures 🙈😳

Spudlet · 17/03/2020 08:59

Aha! It’s fine! DH just switched the power off, unscrewed the plate and, erm, hairdryered the switch and now it’s all better 😬

Oops. Less bleach next time then...

Siameasy · 17/03/2020 09:03

In a few weeks we may be intentionally making Tasers out of light switches Spudlets when cooped-up DHs become annoying 🤪

Siameasy · 17/03/2020 09:04

I’m going to the gym. Until it closes I am going. I’ve been as meticulous as I can eg opening doors with my feet or body. Washing hands when I get there and after.

SureTry · 17/03/2020 09:07

It's lovely and sunny here so we're going to take DS2 for a walk along the beach. Before that though, I'm going to do a quick bleaching various bits around the house.
I had a good day yesterday, a bit of a wobble during the night but I'm just trying to keep the positive motivation going. I don't watch the news anymore or go on Facebook. I've asked DP to tell me any significant developments but other than that I don't want to know.
I hope you all have a good day. Try to do one thing that makes you smile today. Be kind to yourselves, we're going to get through this!

Charleybabes1 · 17/03/2020 09:21

hi ladies
first time posting on here but long time lurker! I just want to thank you all so much for keeping me calm over the past few weeks. I was reading all of the doomsday posts and scary headline stories and it was causing me to feel so anxious so to read the calm sensible posts really helped me!

chocolatesaltyballs22 · 17/03/2020 09:24

@siameasy I'm glad someone else has said they're still going to the gym while they can, I've been dithering!

Have just done my good deed for the day - my cleaner is here and has said clients are cancelling without paying her so I've arranged some temporary work for her with a friend of mine who I know was looking for a cleaner. If she can't clean for us for whatever reason we will still be paying her.

Curiosity101 · 17/03/2020 09:25

I'm not sure if this has been shared yet. But this is a really easy to understand visualisation of the different approaches countries are taking and the effect it has on infection rates.

It's very very simplified, but it does clearly show the logic behind the different approaches.

estherfrewen · 17/03/2020 09:34

Morning everyone. Was a bit stressed during night but got up, fed birds in back garden and now we also have a garden field mouse who is very entertaining. Am going to work later - most wfh but I’m one of the few who are physically going. Lucky me! DS swim squad still going ahead and no news on GCSEs yet. He had a fab English language mock back yesterday. His creative writing is amazing.

MrsLangOnionsMcWeetabix · 17/03/2020 10:08

Morning all,

I’ve started a resource thread www.mumsnet.com/Talk/coronavirus/3851109-Working-from-home-self-isolation-resource-thread

clunkyinthebackend · 17/03/2020 10:35

Hi all, I work for a big multinational and spoke to a guy in China today. He was telling me that the lockdown has been so effective they are all going back to the office next week. He has been WFH for 8 weeks.
Hopefully a bit of inconvenience now will mean a normal summer.

Callybrid · 17/03/2020 10:37

Morning all.

Took DS back to school today only to be sent home by nurse as their understanding of the new guidelines is that we should all be self-isolating as a family for the next two weeks given his temperature and cough symptoms last week. Not sure they are right as guidelines now seem to specify 14 days start from beginning of affected person’s illness - which would mean we can go back on Thurs.

My main issue at the moment is being stuck in the house with a wfh partner with whom I am having very tense relations... we finally got round to starting couples therapy a few months back and let’s just say it’s not working any miracles yet... am building yoga/meditation in to my homeschool/self isolation plan!
