Think would be good to keep this thread going! Will link to the previous threads in a bit.

Clunky - that is great to hear about bits of life becoming more normal in China - thanks!

clunkyinthebackend · 17/03/2020 10:41

You’re welcome - it cheered me right up. I know I’m just a stranger on the internet but this was a real life person and not a meme or someone on Facebook.

Orangeblossom78 · 17/03/2020 10:43

Oh dear went and posted in the main topic about going to the sports centre and wish I had not. Glad to hear others are doing the same.

DH went yesterday and said the pool water was crystal clear as it was so quiet.

In the news today some stuff about how pollutions levels have dropped in Europe and China so that is a good thing.

Going to remind myself just to post here and not in others, for now. Kind thoughts to everyone and hope for a peaceful day Flowers

Orangeblossom78 · 17/03/2020 10:43

Call yes know what you mean about getting stuck in with them, not easy.

magimedi · 17/03/2020 10:45

clunky that is the best bit of news I've heard. Thanks for sharing it.

Orangeblossom78 · 17/03/2020 10:46

Sorry, but thought this might make you laugh. I was told (about the gym)

You have been asked not to go out @Orangeblossom78*

Why can't you just do what you've been asked? Confused

Ummmm...!

chocolatesaltyballs22 · 17/03/2020 10:49

@orangeblossom78 I posted on that thread as well re the gym. And I genuinely can't see where we have specifically been advised not to go - the advice was around pubs and restaurants?! No one has said do not go out full stop. I am genuinely torn between panicking with the rest of the idiots and being sensible!

Spudlet · 17/03/2020 10:51

Anyone with small children (or big children) who wants a handwashing tip! DSs lovely speech therapist has just been, and told me what to do:

Get a big bowl of water, and put lots of black pepper in, so it floats on top. Dip your finger in - it gets coated. That’s the ‘germs’.

Now, put a big dollop of hand soap onto your finger and dip it into the bowl. The pepper all either sinks or sort of springs away so you end up with a clear circle of water around your finger - it’s been scared away by the soap, just like the germs are! Which is why it’s important to wash our hands with soap to scare the germs away.

It’s a fun, non-scary way to demonstrate to children why they need to wash their hands 👍

HonestlyItsFine · 17/03/2020 10:55

The main board is frightening. So many doomsday predictions and jumping down peoples throats.
So glad I found this thread!

ADreamOfGood · 17/03/2020 11:08

@Spudlet the pepper visual tool is fantastic! My children are older now, so get the idea of why they need to wash properly, but a few years ago this would have brought it alive for them properly.

I am happier today because my colleague, whom I was really worried for due to underlying conditions has begun WFH. DH has also been WFH, so he has calmed down a lot (he has asthma, and health anxiety and is stressed also about his elderly mum).
We set-up Skype to his mum last night, and spent about forty minutes chatting with her, so that was great, and has alleviated a lot of his worries. Smile

I am listening to classic FM, which is nice and calm, with only two minutes of news on the hour (so easily avoided if you want).

Although I'm in the office, I am fortunate enough to have an office to myself, and drive to and from work in my car, and stay pretty self-contained for most of the day. I think maintaining normality wherever possible is good for my emotional health.

Alsohuman · 17/03/2020 11:36

This is probably going to be good news for some very small businesses. We bought a big, 20kg bag of potatoes from a local farmer this morning and a dozen eggs from a tiny chicken farm down the road. You can actually have your eggs delivered by them. It’s very unlikely that we’ll ever buy eggs or potatoes from supermarkets again now so, while I feel desperately sorry for businesses in the hospitality industry, some small businesses will thrive.

Orangeblossom78 · 17/03/2020 11:38

I am listening to BBC 6 music which is good and fun music on, just been tidying up and eating some rather strange but comforting chocolate porridge.

Spudlet · 17/03/2020 11:45

@ADreamOfGood Skype / FaceTime are brilliant! DSs speech therapist is looking into delivering sessions online, and we can keep in touch and see people, even if we can’t be there.

Was chatting to DM last night and she said this is probably the longest time that we’ve had without seeing one another since I lived abroad. I haven’t been home since Christmas, with one thing and another. I missed my niece’s birthday, and I have a brand new niece that I haven’t been able to cuddle yet... but I can still see them on a screen, sometimes I just FaceTime mum while I’m bathing DS or cooking, and we just sort of hang out. We’re lucky to have this technology available to us, I really appreciate it at the moment.

Going to take DS out later - I think we might swing by our favourite coffee shop and get a takeaway. I don’t know how they’ll manage, and they’ve always been so kind to DS, I want to support them.

Tomorrow we have a feedback meeting for DSs ASD diagnosis - don’t know whether they think he has it or not. It’s now being done by phone - which I find reassuring, actually. Like, this is being taken seriously but we’re all trying to crack on as best we can. The lady who runs the village playgroup has offered to deliver craft packages to local children as the playgroup won’t be running for now - it’s such a kind thought.

DianneWhatcock · 17/03/2020 11:45

@Alsohuman that's great

we had a stall in our village today with someone selling farm produce

DianneWhatcock · 17/03/2020 11:45

Zoidbergonthehalfshell · 17/03/2020 12:31

Ahh, here you all are! Good to see you all Smile

@gingerbreadslice (I hope I've tagged the right person - if I try to look back through the thread my phone throws a wobbly) your baby has a gorgeous smile!

Also, puppies!! Grin

Alsohuman · 17/03/2020 12:35

Just had another look at those puppies, what a beautiful sight they are.

Zoidbergonthehalfshell · 17/03/2020 12:40

Oh, also I meant to add, there's another sign of spring - the pollen beetles (tiny black shiny ones) are about. I just went up the garden to feed the chickens and the fish in a t-shirt with some yellow on it, and I came back COVERED! Hmm

PineappleDanish · 17/03/2020 12:55

Just spoken to a friend who almost certainly has Covid19 along with her husband and three teenage kids. Fever, aches, cough. They are feeling in her words "like shit" but all at home and starting to improve.

None of them has been tested.

This is why it's so important not to get hung up on percentages. Friend and her family won't ever appear in the official figures of those who've had it, and recovered. People who are obsessively dividing the number of deaths by the number of cases and coming up with a fatality rate are SO wide of the mark.

On the plus side, I think that once you've had it you can't get it again, so they can all start living their lives again once they're better.

andratuttobene · 17/03/2020 13:00

Can confirm that having Antiques Roadshow on in the background is the perfect Covid-19 stress antidote. I’m going to be an antiques buying maven by the time this is all over!

Sunshineanddogwalks · 17/03/2020 13:09

We were going to a wedding in a couple of weeks that has just been cancelled. We're planning a video conference party instead.

gingerbreadslice · 17/03/2020 13:27

For anyone who suffers with anxiety like I do there's a website called CBT4PANIC and it's all based on thoughts and how to change them I was really in a bad place 2018 suffering from anxiety. I found this website and it really changed everything, I still worry but I'm not as bad now I don't think.
If you just type that in to google it will bring it up Smile

I saw a piece on Sky News App that I can't work out how to link about recoveries
