Why are some people carrying on as normal?

Genuine question... Why are some people going to restaurants, bars, theatres, cinemas, soft play etc? I honestly don't understand?

OP posts:
covetingthepreciousthings · 15/03/2020 21:33

Because people genuinely think it's over hyped and it's "just the flu".

nancy75 · 15/03/2020 21:34

Because they haven’t been told not to

MigginsMrs · 15/03/2020 21:34

Because they aren’t self isolating or been instructed to do so?

People work in these places you know, they need to make money.

BecauseReasons · 15/03/2020 21:35

Because, until the world comes to an end, people need to live.

Tonyaster · 15/03/2020 21:36

Because noone has been told not to yet. And the collapse of the economy will make coronavirus look like a runny nose.

ArtisanBreadBin · 15/03/2020 21:36

Are you serious? Because life goes on. If the theatre is open, why would I not go?

Hingeandbracket · 15/03/2020 21:36

I went for a walk in the park yesterday and had some cake in the coffee shop - no reason not to.

MeanMrMustardSeed · 15/03/2020 21:37

Because it only seems sensible to stop doing those things now, if you’re willing to not do them for the next 16 weeks. Many of us intend on waiting until the risk is greater and then avoiding things for a shorter period of time, which seems more manageable and realistic.

Alwaysreadyforbed · 15/03/2020 21:37

Because the economy is very important.

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 15/03/2020 21:37

Because you can’t live your life hiding away. How long will you do it for? We aren’t going mad and have changed some things but essentially nothing has happened to us just yet so we need to be productive. My eldest has GCSEs, my husband is an emergency worker, I’m self employed..... what else can we do but carry on?

Namelesswonder · 15/03/2020 21:37

Because this could go on for a year or more! It’s For healthy people it’s just too early to panic

ParkheadParadise · 15/03/2020 21:37

Because we haven't been told not to.

MigginsMrs · 15/03/2020 21:38

Exactly. People are actually allowed to still have some semblance of a life until they’re told not to. And why is going to a restaurant or cafe any worse than standing in the middle of ALDI with hundred of other idiots panic buying beans?

You’ve really pissed me off. My husband works in one of these places, yes fuck it why shouldn’t he lose his job earlier than he would otherwise have to on your say so

PumpkinP · 15/03/2020 21:38

Yep still doing all those things

GrumpyHoonMain · 15/03/2020 21:38

The government wants the young and healthy to get the virus so let them carry on. Provided they have the sense to keep away from at risk family / friends it’s ok.

Bflatmajorsharp · 15/03/2020 21:38

Because people take calculated risks every day and want to support local businesses. Or they want to see a play or film?

Soft play I would draw the line at under any circumstances to be honest, but this weekend I've been to local pub, cafe and bought take away.

All from local, independent businesses who need customers.

starrynight19 · 15/03/2020 21:38

Because people have been told it’s safe to go to work all week therefore will carry on their normal business at weekends until told differently.

MayDayHelp · 15/03/2020 21:38

Because people believe any old shit the tories tell them. Look what happened with the election.

We haven’t been told to self isolate, Johnson said carry on as normal, despite overwhelming evidence that we shouldn’t. And of course, people believe him.

gracepoolesrum · 15/03/2020 21:39

I support the approach the government are taking. I think the virus will re emerge in parts of the world with strict quarantine. Lockdown is unsustainable.

I have a 10mo, we're low risk and I would seriously struggle to keep her busy at home all day every day.

Raaaa · 15/03/2020 21:39

Because life goes on and who wants to stay indoors all the time. Just waiting for instruction from the government

AnaphylacticAnnabelle · 15/03/2020 21:39

Until guidance is otherwise I will do this, as PPs have said, we need to live.

Also - the economy is about to be shot to pieces, I'd rather support the local economy as much as I can right now.

If I become ill or someone in my house does I will isolate etc.

Sammy867 · 15/03/2020 21:39

Because they’re in the low risk group- the ones that actually we need to get corona virus so they become immune and help prevent the spread into the elderly and at risk groups. I imagine this is what the government was after: lock up everyone at risk for 4 months meanwhile the rest of the healthy population gets and recovers from the disease, allowing herd immunity to prevent the vulnerable and elderly from catching it when they come out of self isolation as the disease will have less people to infect and therefore won’t spread as easily

Geepipe · 15/03/2020 21:40

I have tickets to the theatre at the end of the month. Unless its cancelled or i develop symptoms im going to go. Life still has to go on with regards to the economy. Unless the government bans me I have not been told to isolate myself and as im no longer in touch with vulnerable people i shouldnt affect anyone really. I dont go out except to work and to the food shop so this is a one off thing I will attend unless the reasons otherwise stated happen. I do believe anyone with symptoms or vulnerable relatives or clients should take more sensible measures.

Tonyaster · 15/03/2020 21:40

Dd played football today, we walked the dogs and rode the horses. Spoke to friends. We've probably stopped cinema and pubs for the foreesable future but I don't judge those who do.

gingganggooleywotsit · 15/03/2020 21:41

Agree with all of the above. official advice hasn't been given to stay home if you're healthy, so I'm trying to carry on fairly normally. Have no choice work wise anyway Sad
