Because we are too rebellious. I cannot envisage people staying indoors for any length of time

We can walk dogs. Just not go for walks or jogging, meet others, etc.

Laiste · 15/03/2020 21:10

Seems it's mostly the dog walkers who'll be the ones thinking they're special cases.

Tulipstulips · 15/03/2020 21:10

@idontlike789... I’m going to answer as though you think I’m talking about what’s happening right now. I’m not. I’m saying these are possible outcomes if we go into strict lockdown and people disobey it. I’m not saying it’s likely - I’m saying it’s possible.

I think you know that though and think you’re being very very funny. Bless. So I’m not going to bother interacting with you again.

idontlike789 · 15/03/2020 21:11

If we are on lockdown there will be no McDonald's or soft play to go to . Who's the idiot ? Hmm

Genevieva · 15/03/2020 21:12

@BirdandSparrow Thanks. Sounds sensible. Is there an envisaged end point? Eg when a vaccine is developed. He trouble is that even if the infection rate drops right off, it will probably soar the moment restrictions are lifted.

Genevieva · 15/03/2020 21:12

The not He

That's a shame , I thought it was you who was being funny so you were serious then ? . Now I am scared

Frangipanini · 15/03/2020 21:13

It wouldn't work and this is what the behavioural scientists have told BJ and he is listening to them.

However, TBH what our country most needs is some discipline so I really don't have a problem with our military putting people in their place when they act like tw@ts during a lock down.

Livelovebehappy · 15/03/2020 21:14

People are already behaving like idiots - look at the panic buying situation. Do you really think people will be sensible and obey any lockdown laws? Of course not - I really think the idiots outnumber the sensible people and there will a lot of lawlessness going on.

What if I meet another dog walker ? Shall I run away is that allowed ?

Alsohuman · 15/03/2020 21:15

If you have a dog you have a responsibility to look after it properly. That involves exercising it and giving it the opportunity to empty its bladder and bowels. It’s also your responsibility to walk it where and when you don’t come into contact with other people. What’s your beef with that?

ChrissieKeller61 · 15/03/2020 21:16

Tbh with the amount of dog shit left on our street I think the residents are already considering sniping them
From their bedroom windows. Now they can just blame the police

Wavescrashingonthebeach · 15/03/2020 21:16

@HasaDigaEebowai

Thanks for link.

It isn't a fun read. I'm a lawyer and have had to read for work reasons.

I remember doing my ilex and had to read the cattle regs.. gripping stuff haha

Well, being facetious isn't going to help anyone. No, you keep at least a metre away from them. That's not hard to understand surely?

@Genevieva
In Spain the state of alert is 15 days. Then it has to get parliament's approval to be extended. I think restrictions will be extended for another week as I don't think cases will have dropped enough in 15 days. We had 1700 new cases yesterday and are now at nearly 300 deaths.

Bearbehind · 15/03/2020 21:20

That is coming across loud and clear

HasaDigaEebowai · 15/03/2020 21:20

Its against the rules. Simple as that. Presumably the vast majority of dog owners have outside space anyway where the dog can go to the loo. Dogs do not have to be walked. It would be an exceptional scenario and so the dog would have to survive without being walked just like dogs do all the time when they're ill/injured etc.
I have a large dog myself but the "special case" mentality of some dog owners astonishes me.

Libbykins · 15/03/2020 21:21

birdandsparrow Wuhan was in lockdown for 51 days and they have only lifted half of their restrictions now... expect it to be longer than 3 weeks...

FortunesFave · 15/03/2020 21:21

In Australia the authorities have already got the power to detain people they think are a threat.

Under biosecurity laws introduced in 2015, the Government has the power to forcibly detain and decontaminate people with the virus, and prevent people from attending mass gatherings.

They've also said yesterday that anyone coming from abroad must self isolate for two weeks. Failure to do so will have immediate sanctions. I don't think they said arrest...but they don't piss about here. They'd probably arrest you. They said that it's the same for someone whose Australian and has been on holiday abroad...they must self isolate.

They've also stopped all cruise ships from docking.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 15/03/2020 21:21

I'd hope we can go to the coast at 10pm or similar.

We have zero outside space.

VivaLeBeaver · 15/03/2020 21:22

I have a dog and if we are on lockdown she will be in the garden only. So I could spend more time out there with her. My dog isn’t interested in balls but others might be. I might spend some time trying to teach her some tricks to keep her mentally stimulated? To be honest she’s probably quite happy watching Netflix with me!

StampMc · 15/03/2020 21:23

If we are on lockdown there will be no McDonald's or soft play to go to

But we won’t be on lockdown because of the famous rebellious nature of the nation that loses its shit over whether it’s cream first or jam.

BirdandSparrow · 15/03/2020 21:23

It's NOT against the rules to take the dog for a walk under Spain's lockdown conditions. You just keep a metre away from other people. Loads of Spaniards live in flats with dogs. They have to take them out. But if you massively limit the number of people mixing in public by removing most people from public areas then you massively reduce contagion. I am struggling to see why people find this so hard to understand.

Hopeisnotastrategy · 15/03/2020 21:23

@UYScuti

Hi! We are ok thanks, safe fed and watered this evening, but I am sitting here in Spain reading this thread and fearing for my home country tonight because no one is taking this seriously . I know it’s happening quickly and it’s a lot to take in.

People, I cannot say this more clearly, you need to get real. I know we live in age where everything gets hyped and we take it with a pinch of salt. We drive along the motorway and we get bombarded with messages about taking. a break, or traffic issues half a country away where we are., and we ignore them.

We get overloaded with health and safety rules and risk assessments. We live in a society where everybody has rights and everybody can self identify as what we want and nobody is allowed to be a racist. There are rules about being decent.

We as Brits have a predisposition to laugh and joke about everything, and that’s great.

The coronavirus doesn’t care about any of these things. It doesn’t care what passport you hold, or how you vote, or what you weigh, or if your kid has ADHD, or if you own a penisbeaker, or if you bleach your you know what, or if you WBU, or if you had a Zilla or a parking problem. All these things - suddenly the world has changed and these things pass off the radar and It Just Does Not Care. All it cares about is killing you and yours.

I cannot SHOUT THIS out any more than this, please learn as much as you can about Coronavirus and get ready for it. When it comes it will come quickly and the country will need to be adaptable and quick to change. It will be hard for a few months, no one should underestimate that, but it is best controlled if everyone sticks together. Too many people I see on here seem to be all about them and not about the community as a whole. Where did that come from?

And yes, if you are not decent and wise enough to want to help shut this down, then you will be made to comply. Of course you will, and the rest of us will fully support it, because the next stage if we don’t nip it in the bud will be much, much worse.

This is not a drill, it is real and this is the only occasion I have seen in my six decades where everyone needs to understand the danger and pull together fast.

Mimishimi · 15/03/2020 21:24

The whole thing is very suspicious now. Coronavirus has done what 9/11 failed to do.

VivaLeBeaver · 15/03/2020 21:25

Like JCB are going to be able to turn around specialist medical equipment in 2 weeks. Matt Hancock said it isn't difficult, although he did admit he couldn't do it

JCB have also said they can’t do it. Grin
