DD had temp of 38.2 and sore throat. Do I send her to school tomorrow?

Unbelievable. Are people really still having to ask this?

thirdfiddle · 15/03/2020 19:09

Sorry to hijack but what does a 'persistent' cough actually mean? How long does it have to persist for?

hurryupautumn · 15/03/2020 19:10

@Splitsunrise I wasn't sure if it was both

I think everyone needs to be kinder to each other. This is new territory for everyone; we’ve been conditioned to go to work / send children to school even when we’re basically on deaths door. I’m not surprised so many people are asking - it probably stems from the massive guilt we used to feeling when ringing in sick.

Like I said we need to all support each other - there’s no such thing as a dumb question. If you’re worried about something just ask, I know I’ll try and support whoever is unsure about something.

PickAChew · 15/03/2020 19:11

It means one of those coughs that won't go away rather than you cough and then that's it, you're fine, no more urge to cough.

InescapableDeath · 15/03/2020 19:11

I wouldn't send a kid in with a temperature regardless.

piefacedClique · 15/03/2020 19:12

For the love of God!!!! 🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️

Mashedpotatobutty · 15/03/2020 19:12

I’m getting really angry with the abundance of posters asking this. Do they not realise the reality of the virus.

To answer your question. Of course not. Follow the advice that is repeated hourly on the news and keep your DC off for 7 days in isolation. Meaning do not let them leave your house, do not get at risk people to look after them and do not have visitors to your home.

GrumpyHoonMain · 15/03/2020 19:13

Regardless of Covid-19 that is a very high temperature.

hurryupautumn · 15/03/2020 19:13

@KeysDontBelongInTheFridge - thank you! It is new territory and DD regularly sent emails out saying even if you're child had a sore throat etc send them in! So I just wasn't sure if I was overthinking it that's why I asked.

My anger does come out of fear.

hurryupautumn · 15/03/2020 19:13

As above!! No. Definitely not.

confusedandtired99 · 15/03/2020 19:14

🤦‍♀️ No

codenameduchess · 15/03/2020 19:14

It couldn't be clearer that it's a new, persistent cough OR a high temp.

All this 'oh they are fine in themselves' is completely irrelevant, no special cases, no exceptions even though everyone seems to think their child is the exception or they will be fine because it's 'just a cold' is either stupid or has no regard for the well-being of others.

What if that regular virus infects someone more vulnerable who is then weakened and contracts covid-19?

it is very clear.

Gazelda · 15/03/2020 19:15

If you were unsure, and had ever heard of the recent health situation crossing the globe, wouldn't it have make more sense to visit NHS online to seek information, rather than risk ridicule for a seemingly dumb question on MN?
It's not as if you could have missed the hundreds of CV threads on this site. There may be many contradicting views on how we react and how the government should be reacting.

But one thing that is NOT disputed is the advice to isolate if you have a fever, new cough etc.

KeysDontBelongInTheFridge · 15/03/2020 19:15

@thirdfiddle I would say it’s a cough that doesn’t go away. If they just cough twice in two hours I would say that’s fine, if they cough on for a longer period of time I would say that’s persistent. If you’re worried ring up the school tomorrow to discuss it.

HotDogGuy · 15/03/2020 19:15

Ridiculous. I’ve reported in the hope this is a troll. If not I despair for the future of this country with some many selfish stupid people around.

Hoggleludo · 15/03/2020 19:16

And they wonder why it's gone round the uk so fast....

I despair at the British people!!!

Lucked · 15/03/2020 19:16

Ok, wasn't sure if it was a viral thing.

This made me chuckle.

Assume it is the viral thing and take every precaution to protect the public.

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 15/03/2020 19:17

Wow. There really should be some test you have to take before having kids. Or even if the are fictitious ones as I suspect.

Conrad79 · 15/03/2020 19:17

Stop trying to piss people off op

you know the answer Hmm

ohmysoul · 15/03/2020 19:17

It's so clear. You could have just read the coronavirus page on the NHS website or any number of news articles.

Keep her in the house for 7 days.

hurryupautumn · 15/03/2020 19:17

I'm not a troll. I was just asking some advice. Ill keep her off tomorrow.

Good luck everyone.

What guidelines are you all referring to? I don't read or watch the news so I'm not really up to date with what's going on.
