Who is doing what?

I wish I could work from home, but I can't, and am worried about commuting.

Going into work and going to gym at lunchtime.

Ilovewillow · 15/03/2020 13:04

Mixed bag tomorrow - we run our own business but there are 9 of us in total so we are alternating so that printing file collection etc can happen with the other 4 wfh - it's a difficult choice but we are trying to balance the virus, isolation and keeping the business running sufficiently to ensure we can pay wages. Son will be off as he has croup (barking like a seal) and eldest will be at secondary school.

Gatekeeper · 15/03/2020 13:06

not a hope in hell of staying at home; I manage a retirement housing scheme onsite with several immuno- suppressed residents. Will be fun and games if they are forced to self-isolate!

Bugger the bog roll- I've sent dh out for booze

HouseOfGoldandBones · 15/03/2020 13:08

I've got, what I think is a cold (cough, tight chest, sinus infection)

But, I can work from home, so I'm self isolating for 7 days.

In the spare room & using a different bathroom.

DH is happier than I think is reasonable

VivaLeBeaver · 15/03/2020 13:09

I’m wfh. Hoping dh does the same.

DinosApple · 15/03/2020 13:10

Self isolating. I work in a school and came down with fever, aches and cough on Friday afternoon.
Its from the pupils almost certainly (I don't get out much). It might be CV or it might not.

Ladyglitterfairydust · 15/03/2020 13:12

Both teachers here so can’t work from home. Oldest dc will go to school and youngest will go to pre-school. We do have a problem on Thursday though. Youngest usually goes to grandparents but they’ve said they won’t have her anymore (no one has any symptoms) so I’m hoping pre-school has space available. If not I’ve got absolutely no idea what we’ll do.

Fralla · 15/03/2020 13:12

I can work from home but my team currently can’t, do feel it would be unfair of me to not go in to the office under current circumstances.

We are getting ready to set them up for home working though, and started buying in the things they’d need for it last week. We were gonna trial it this week for a couple of them but might have to speed it up by the looks of things.

Megan2018 · 15/03/2020 13:13

I’m on mat leave and DH WFH now anyway. I am going to my baby groups unless cancelled and having my usual NCT lunch date.
But staying in our very rural area -no towns as I figure the very low density population has to help!

hellswelshy · 15/03/2020 13:14

Going to work. Civil servant, business as usual at the moment. My line of work is pretty essential in this kind of situation, indirectly.

CrocodilesCry · 15/03/2020 13:15

Going into work as usual.
DP will be at home as all of his events have been cancelled for the foreseeable so he has no work.
When I move to working from home he'll be helping me as the workload will be horrific.

Ilikewinter · 15/03/2020 13:16

I work for a retail chemist so ill be working when the rest of the world is home...im based in a train station and managment have been told that if/when trade stops or too many staff or pharmacists are off sick then we will close and be sent to help local stores.

FairyBunnyAgain · 15/03/2020 13:16

I could wfh as I am all set up with a laptop and the correct access as I work evenings and weekends is we are busy. The problem is a portion (25%) of what we do is on a server that you can't access outside of the building (easily). None of the rest of my team ever wfh so don't have the set up, although I am sure if they have a PC at home they could do the 75% of the job that can be done remotely.

The issue is that we are a production and distribution facility so the main staff have to be onsite and currently the management are treating us all as 1.

I will be trying to suggest tomorrow that it is actually discussed and the teams that can remote work do, however the current thought process is that if the 'office' doesn't have to come in then why do the 'factory' have to.

LynnSchmob · 15/03/2020 13:17

Going into work tomorrow and this week fully expect to be made redundant as are hundreds of thousands in the hospitality and tourist industry within the next month.

KarenTookTheKids · 15/03/2020 13:17

We are all going to work/school as usual and will do until forced to do otherwise - I am NHS, DH is a police officer

makingmyway10 · 15/03/2020 13:18

I work in a school so no working from home yet. I only work part-time but have just been asked to go in tomorrow to cover for a colleague who is ill (self-isolating but they are not worried it is anything more than a virus just following guidelines). DH is working tomorrow but is going to work form home on Tuesday so I can work!

FairyBunnyAgain · 15/03/2020 13:21

And to continue, DC1 is still working on her zero hours service industry contract and will do as many hours as she can before they are told to close as once they do she isn't going to be paid.

DP has a job that has to be done (not front line NHS or police) and that can't be done from home and will be going to work unless he is actually ill for whole period.

emmathedilemma · 15/03/2020 13:22

I'm off this week anyway. We've been given the option to work from home but not enforced yet. We've all got laptops and Skype and a lot of people work from home one or two days a week so don't think it will affect how we work much. I'll go stir crazy after a week though!

Ffsnosexallowed · 15/03/2020 13:23

I work in health and care management. Will be in tomorrow, preparing for some long days ahead.

booellesmum · 15/03/2020 13:25

I'll be off to work - NHS outpatients.
DH works from home anyway.
DD off to school - GCSE year and needs to finalise coursework.
I think schools will close within the next 2 weeks though, and they need to consider postponing exams.

ColourMeExhausted · 15/03/2020 13:26

I'm meant to be on jury service! Assuming that will still go ahead? But DS in out of hours with symptoms so we will just have to see...

Youngatheart00 · 15/03/2020 13:27

I feel like there’s a fair bit of confusion and uncertainty both among staff and company owners, which this thread confirms.

I started a new job 2 weeks ago, my DH is severely asthmatic so is now WFH but my works policy is to carry on as normal and that includes a London tube commute. I’m nervous to make a stand as I’m so new. The job is office based and we are able to WFH but no guidance to as a rule yet. Really hoping the guidance changes. I don’t want to put my DH at risk but I also don’t want to lose my job

alloutoffucks · 15/03/2020 13:28

WFH I work for a scientific company and everyone is wfh on Monday except for a few essential trips in to the lab. But staff are supposed to time this so they are the only ones in. In labs you wear gloves, lab coats and use alcohol to clean surfaces already.

jewel1968 · 15/03/2020 13:28

WFH . Really easy for us to WFH. Don't like it personally as I like being in office. I have asthma so makes sense to avail of home working.

BlindAssassin1 · 15/03/2020 13:28

I work for one of the big supermarkets - today apparently is bat shit crazy. Busier than Christmas.

Unless you get sick you have to go in, even if members of your household are ill. If your DC's school is closed and you have to be home you have to make up the hours lost within that week period, ie at night or weekends. I don't know yet if sick pay kicks in asap or within three days yet.

DC have been off with huge temperatures, DH is under the weather with something chesty. My instinct is to stay home with them. My employer says otherwise. Hmm
