Who is doing what?

I wish I could work from home, but I can't, and am worried about commuting.

I'm going to work. No choice. Frontline NHS

Meercat2 · 15/03/2020 12:41

I'm a nurse. I expect we will be working till we drop. Literally

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 15/03/2020 12:41

*I use two.sceens at work too. When I work from home, I plug.my laptop in to my home TV via HDMI.lead ( I drag a small table infront.of the TV)

No! Unless you live on your own then are other people supposed to watch Netflix?

I WFH quite a lot, so not much difference for me. Everything is Mac laptop based, so I can literally work anywhere. Partner has just lugged all his computer stuff from the office to work here too. We will both be having a lot of video conferences and calls, so that’s a good way to still feel connected to our colleagues.

mrsm43s · 15/03/2020 12:44

DH and I will both be working from home next week as we both have minor coughs, and so are self isolating, as per govt advice. DH will go back after 7 days all being well, but I have autoimmune disease and asthma, so will remain WfH for the foreseeable. Luckily I frequently WfH anyway and am set up to do so, and I have a very supportive employer (Public Sector).

DC are teens and will continue to go to school, and essential school related events, but apart from that are staying in.

millimollimandi · 15/03/2020 12:45

MrsMGE me too - bloody ridiculous and if I catch this i will lay the blame well and truly at the door of work. I can WAH easily, but not allowed. Confused

eurochick · 15/03/2020 12:46

I'll be working at home on Monday. My office had a suspected case last week and is closed until Tuesday. Then we are supposed to be moving to 1/3 work from home but I wonder if they will just tell us all to keep wfh if the IT stands up tomorrow.

Yubaba · 15/03/2020 12:47

I work in retail pharmacy, Even if the country goes into lockdown we will not be closing.

DD has woken up this morning with a cough and a cold so she is probably going to be off school all week, I’ll have to ring them tomorrow and see what they say.

DH works for a major bank and can WFH and Skype if needed but it’s not ideal.

Myshinynewname · 15/03/2020 12:48

Yubaba why do you need to ring school? If she's coughing keep her off.

fearney · 15/03/2020 12:49

I'm in NHS radiology (sonography) so will be working until I catch it at the moment I guess. We have several hundred patients come through our department daily and it hasn't slowed down this week either. I can't work from home obviously. The girls in the office are frantically calling to cancel all routine outpatient x-rays, ultrasounds, fluoroscopy, Nuclear Med, CT/MRI appointments, no walk in GP x-rays unless Urgent (GP's usually play that and mark everything as urgent so I hope this changes). I'm not sure what will happen as we will end up having 40-50 staff in department not doing a fat lot of anything (Radiologists, radiographers, sonographers, imaging assistants, admin, secretaries, managers, PACs team, porters etc). Radiographers will bear the brunt of the workload. Maybe someone will suggest a condensed workforce rota so we aren't all in at the same time. No idea of the implications on pay if this happens.

We have only just this week started having the specialist PPE training as well so we're probably all infected by now anyway.

NanSlayer · 15/03/2020 12:50

Hunkering down for 4/6 months time to relax listen to the radio and read some books, watch this pan out, and then readjust plans accordingly.

I'm planning for the internet to go down in 4/6 weeks.

T0tallyFuckedUpFamily · 15/03/2020 12:52

My local vet said that they’re considered an essential services, so will be staying open, but they have implemented a drop the pet off and fuck off service. Grin I’m so bloody relieved and incredibly appreciative that they’re staying open, as I have three elderly animals.

ojojoj1 · 15/03/2020 12:54

I think I need to self isolate . No fever just cough shortness of breath ,stabbing pain in chest and headache plus I have asthma and autoimmune illness. My 8 year old has cough 13 year old doesnt so I called nhs helpline to ask what to to do . They said the older one is ok to go to school . Im a single mother with 0 family around . I don’t know what to do with the older one ?

JustVisiting9 · 15/03/2020 12:54

I will be going in, but my team will be WFH (I am the Manager). This is really to test if we can really do everything we need to from home - we can in theory but we've never done it in practice. If anything doesn't work, I'll be in the office to sort it out. If everything works as expected then I will probably WFH from Tuesday.

This is not for my own benefit - there are some roles that cannot be done from home and the intention is to protect those staff by reducing possible contact with anyone else.

Myshinynewname because she has a cold with a very minor cough caused by a post nasal drip. I suspect school will tell her to stay home even though she is well and doesn’t have a temperature. We have all had this cold over the last month or so in our house and she is the last to catch it.

BunnytheBee · 15/03/2020 12:57

I’m WFH tomorrow and probably 1-2 more days this week. We had an email last week to say one day this week everyone will be asked to work from home for one day to test its business continuity plan

I wouldn’t be surprised if we aren’t all working from home in my office within a couple of weeks

slartibarti · 15/03/2020 12:57

I'm planning for the internet to go down in 4/6 weeks.

NanSlayer is that just your internet or everyone's?

Sallycinammonbangsthedruminthe · 15/03/2020 12:57

Carrying on as normal here too...school,work,socialising everything as normal..

MaomiMak · 15/03/2020 12:58

I will travelling on London buses tubes and trains

And working in the city centre

EnglishGirlApproximately · 15/03/2020 12:58

I've been WFH for a week now and will be for the foreseeable future. I work for an Italian company who know only too well could happen here and all staff who can be are at home. Office staff who need to be there are having temperature checks etc. We're being well looked after it's a huge relief.

BunnytheBee · 15/03/2020 12:58

Why would the internet go down?

DH and I are talking about WFH but he thinks everything will come to a stop and we’ll all just be at home with no work today (Legal)

cazinge · 15/03/2020 13:00

WFH tomorrow and Tuesday (Tuesday was planned anyway) as I'm pregnant and a colleague is due back from travelling abroad (Vietnam, Thailand, Cambodia + others). As work is following govt guidance, she doesn't need to SI unless symptoms but as she sits next to me I'm not taking the risk.

Was fully planning to go back in once the status of colleague was known but I think everyone will be WFH soon, either later this week or next week so now I'm wondering if I will be back in before my leave now (end May). Wish I'd brought all my shoes home now Grin

Peasfox · 15/03/2020 13:02

Off to work! Hoping for a nice commute Grin

Drogonssmile · 15/03/2020 13:02

I work in the NHS and can't work from home so will be going in, Ds2 goes to the hospital nursery which I am hoping will stay open as it is strictly for hospital staff. DS1 is in primary school with no talk of closure and DH can and will WFH and has been told to conduct all his meetings via conf call/Skype.

Incidentally it's saving the company he works for a fortune in train tickets; instead of paying £250 for a train ticket to London and back he just had to securely post some documents for £17 and will confer by Skype. I reckon they'l carry on that way once this is over and they realise how much it saves!
