Who is doing what?

I wish I could work from home, but I can't, and am worried about commuting.

No change in our routine here, school, work etc.

DH can work from home if needed, I can't - nurse. DS is about to do A levels. The school is setting to teach via his laptop if needed. Who knows what will happen with the exams?

JaceLancs · 15/03/2020 12:27

I will be going to work as usual
What I do when I get there will depend on how others around me react eg meetings being cancelled etc

Letsdoanamechangeagain · 15/03/2020 12:28

Going to work as normal, I'm hoping we will be told we can work from home this week, but they are very much "business as usual" in fact I'd bet that anyone that calls in self isolating will be met with Hmm

IceColdCat · 15/03/2020 12:29

I work at a university which has announced no more face to face teaching until after Easter. I'll still be going in (to set up my online teaching) but it will be very quiet without the students.

DH is going to work but won't be surprised if he's told to wfh at some point.

Kids will be going to school.

BarbedBloom · 15/03/2020 12:29

I am immune suppressed and asthmatic. I am also unemployed atm so am self isolating. However we have used the last of our savings so no idea how we will manage in a few months. DH still has to go to work so may bring it back anyway.

coronawhatnow · 15/03/2020 12:29

My DH works in tv production and is in the studio all next week. Can imagine a hot and sticky studio is a wonderful breeding place for viral illness. Also the commute into central London too. Great. We're going to get it aren't we?

Figgygal · 15/03/2020 12:29

My whole team are decreed to be working from home for the foreseeable future our managers have put checking calls in the diary twice a week for the next four weeks so don’t expect to be going back to work any time soon

I have something I need to go in for tomorrow but that will be it and I had to argue it was necessary. we are very lucky I work from home regularly anyway but this will be difficult nonetheless

PerspicaciaTick · 15/03/2020 12:30

I can and have worked from home but at the moment my employer is following advice to the letter and so we are expected to be present. There is a lot of planning needing to be done and the public have a lot of questions so I think it will be a few days before WFH is authorised.

T0tallyFuckedUpFamily · 15/03/2020 12:31

I run a doggy daycare from home and will continue to do so, until I’ve no more clients. Clients were told last week that they were no longer permitted into the building but had to contact me when they arrive, clip the dog to the lead on the wall and step back while I take the dog. The dog is given a quick wash down and let in. The reverse happens when they collect the dog. I can’t afford to stop working.

I'm in an industry that is shit hot at risk assessment. All office based staff have to WFH for the next month. We've been told absence due to respiratory infections won't count towards trigger points for absence. There will be lab and manufacturing staff on site but there are plans to increase shift work to reduce numbers on site at any one time. Manufacturing staff aren't allowed to work when mildly ill anyway. Senior managers are identifying priority projects for when the supply chain issues get worse and we have a lot of manufacturing staff off sick. We've banned all non-critical visitors to site (e.g. all interview are being done by phone but service engineers will be allowed on site under certain conditions). Customers tend to be based round the world so we are well set up for telecons. All noncritical meetings and training have been cancelled. Basically we're enacting our pandemic policy.

DH works in the public sector. He can WFH and is planning to from Monday. But they have no policy yet to deal with the pandemic. It's all rather worrying.

PetitsGateaux · 15/03/2020 12:31

I’m in France. I’ll be ‘working’ from home - with the kids - indefinitely.

leiaskye · 15/03/2020 12:32

I’ve been told to WFH for the next 2 weeks, so that’s what I’m doing.

Not looking forward to it, as too easily distracted & I eat too much at home!

leiaskye · 15/03/2020 12:35

Oh, & my children are going to school until they close them.

Neither of my daughters want the schools to close, so they’re more than happy to keep going until they have no choice,

CountFosco · 15/03/2020 12:35

I am a cleaner. None of my customers have cancelled as yet.

I would be very reluctant to cancel my cleaner because she doesn't have the financial buffer we do. I'd rather just stay out of her way while she works.

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 15/03/2020 12:36

That’s a lot of us working.

I was hoping for more space on the tube.

I work in a pharmacy so no WFH option for me. Its a worry though when people come in coughing.

lovelyupnorth · 15/03/2020 12:37

Yes going to work. Have given a couple of staff who can work from home and have underlying issues the option if they want to and to be fair they can do most of the role from home. Other staff who are out on the road would expect in at the minute.

BendyLikeBeckham · 15/03/2020 12:37

@Dibdabdobdop please go off sick. If you have symptoms you shouldn't be in a shop spreading it to all the customers and staff. That would be immoral never mind against gov advice. Tell your employer the gov says you must stay at home

bumblingbovine49 · 15/03/2020 12:37

@angelcakebananabrain

I use two.sceens at work too. When I work from home, I plug.my laptop in to my home TV via HDMI.lead ( I drag a small table infront.of the TV).

That gives me the TV and laptop screen as which is not as good as two proper screens at work but helps .with.what I have to do

HoldMyLobster · 15/03/2020 12:37

Disappointed by the lack of leadership in my organisation. There is no plan at all! I asked to see it and after probing, management said that 'a plan was being written for our work area'.

My husband is part of the leadership team at his company, and he's been similarly frustrated with the difficulty in getting the other leadership team members to actually talk about it and make a plan.

Eventually Thursday they started talking, Friday they put together a full-blown plan (with one of the team still very against working from home). Saturday he had the IT team getting everything set up, ordering monitors to be delivered to people's houses (they all have laptops already) and generally planning the logistics.

They're still working out things like what happens with all the post that comes into the office and needs to be passed on to various members of staff? They're used to just putting envelopes on desks so they'll have to switch to one person scanning it all in, then the rest of them finding it from within a storage system.

Luckily they don't need to worry about things like VPNs or secure systems - they're mostly cloud based already.

There's a lot to set up - companies should have started already.

lovelyupnorth · 15/03/2020 12:38

Should add their roles can’t be done from home so if don’t come in either sick pay, holidays or short working will be implemented but that also means no pay.

Spacie · 15/03/2020 12:38

I work in an after school club. We will be open as long as the school is.

Gertie75 · 15/03/2020 12:38

I wfh already but have customers come to me, nobody has cancelled so far.

DC will be going to school.

MedSchoolRat · 15/03/2020 12:39

I am going out & doing normal life as much as possible for as long as possible. I'm not afraid of me or anyone in my house being ill.I can easily avoid vulnerable people.

I am part of the research/emergency response groups, so kind of have more excuse than many could claim for going in.
My employer isn't telling us to stay home.
I can't access files easily from home.
My employer hasn't given me equipment to work well from home.
Working from home will be slow & frustrating. I dread it.
I will kill DH if I have to spend so much time with him

SetPhasersTaeMalkie · 15/03/2020 12:39

Teacher here so am working as usual. I take public transport too so a bit more apprehensive.
