It’s probably already been said, but why didn’t we lock our country down as soon as this all started? We are an island so would be so much easier to stop it entering from people coming in from other countries.

Helenj1977 · 16/03/2020 07:38

America shutting down has really rattled me. I've been in tears this weekend worrying about my vulnerable family.

My girls are home now. I just need to convince dp to wfh now. They are social distancing in his office.

Boris needs to fucking step up today.

MacronsPENswiper · 16/03/2020 07:44

I can't risk it. I've pulled both dc out today
The older one I was going to tomorow 😂 but then I heard a a child wasn't feeling well on Friday. So that unwell child could have spread it to those kids around them then they spread it on etc.

If my dd doesn't have it already! I couldn't risk it for another day. It could be nothing but schools have no quarantine zones set up, no communication with us, they don't seem to even close when there is a case.

The problem is I'm also in education!
I'm desperately trying to protect myself but it's nigh on impossible.. I adore my job but I'm going to have to resign if they force me to keep going under these circumstances... We are not in primary so no child care excuses.

Skelton staff and very thinned out students would be tolerable. But squashed into small stuffy classrooms is cruel.. They may not get it bad (although that's not true) but I'm in the age bracket nearing the target

Matt Hancock showed us how prepared they are, by asking for ventilators NOW when they have had months to prepare..

We always judge actions not words and we have seen no action

Helenj1977 · 16/03/2020 07:46

@Mittens030869 How are you today?

RedToothBrush · 16/03/2020 07:49

CGTN @cgtnoffical
#Beijing on Monday reported six more imported #COVID19 cases, four came from Spain and two from the UK.

The capital city reports a total of 37 imported cases with total imported cases in China rising to 129.

UK EXPORTS OF COVID-19...

JayDot500 · 16/03/2020 07:50

So we are having to self isolate Blush. DS has had a cough for over a week now with no temperature. He developed one last night (highest 38 degrees, but mostly around 37.6-37.8) and the cough is a bit more constant, with less of a runny nose and sneezing, jusy constant coughing. I've sent a message to the school, interested to see what they'll say. He's only really been home and school since I have a young baby and don't really have the energy to go anywhere.

My particular concern is that my son has ended up in A and E twice because of viral wheezing. We have some leftovers of a pump here from the last time, but the GP didn't want to issue one to us because he only really gets this bad when he has a cold. My GP is not seeing people face to face, so I guess I'll try to call them since I can no longer call 111. But it does all feel very confusing and who knows what we have in store. He usually gets a very high temperature with the wheezing, so maybe eventually we'll get tested upon going into hospital. I can't help but feel extremely concerned that we aren't doing enough to stop this thing.

Wehttam · 16/03/2020 07:51

China won’t want our exports of the virus because it’s mutated.

Just sayin’

JayDot500 · 16/03/2020 07:53

Sorry that's not clear Confused. Let me try explaining that first but again. Last week his cough wasn't constant, it was just a normal cough that wasn't constant or frequent, and he had a bit of a runny nose with it. It's only yesterday that it became constant with a slight temperature.

Helenj1977 · 16/03/2020 07:53

China need to close their borders or they'll start again 😢

Sippingmytea · 16/03/2020 07:54

Not sending my primary children in today. The school have said to keep siblings off in 1 child is sick. One of mine has had a persistent cough since Friday but nothing else. We’re in London so can only imagine how rife it is here.

Hoping Boris steps up today but I doubt he will.

picklemewalnuts · 16/03/2020 07:56

Has this been shared? It makes perfect sense. I think the bucket is quite full already- but I guess the NHS has been clearing the decks to make more room.

FlamingoAndJohn · 16/03/2020 07:59

It does make sense. However why does the government of every single other country in the world disagree? I think they might have more scientific advisors than just some bloke in his garden with a bucket.

CrunchyCarrot · 16/03/2020 08:00

Whoever posted re Dr John Campbell yesterday, thank you, because his youtube vids on Coronavirus are a very good watch indeed.

picklemewalnuts · 16/03/2020 08:02

The paramedic whose death was announced yesterday, died at home. Does anyone know more about that? has it been discussed already?

I haven't got the statement here now.

waspfig · 16/03/2020 08:04

Scotland CMO (didn't catch his name) Explaining the strategy very clearly on BBC breakfast. Why can't the English government get their act together and give some reassurance?! Or at least some evidence for their bonkers plan.

sadatchristmas1 · 16/03/2020 08:04

My kids are all of school everyone of them is coughing and has a temperature. They are well in themselves bar my one daughter who is complaining of a sore throat and headache and tummy ache. Rang the drs keep her home we aren't seeing patients unless it's not cold or covid-19 related. Any deterioration ring 111 for advice. She's been hospitalised 3 times for pneumonia in the past. Today I'm feeling scared.

Sunshinesky1981 · 16/03/2020 08:05

Stupid question I know, as well it's been the weekend so obviously MP's have been having a well deserved break from singing happy Birthday... But have they confirmed how or what they plan for over 70's who still work with regard to sick pay etc ?

MustBeDueSomeBetterFeet · 16/03/2020 08:05

@waspfig He was very good, wasn't he!

Saucery · 16/03/2020 08:06

Compulsory testing? Yes please! Do we have to run up and down the street yelling I'VE GOT A TEMPERATURE!! and wait for the police to arrive?

IrisAtwood · 16/03/2020 08:09

They’re just discussing it on R4’s Today programme. Nothing so far but comparisons to the billions used to bail out the banks.

JayDot500 · 16/03/2020 08:12

The bucket analogy makes no sense to me. I would think that a shut down would reduce the initial amount of people in the population (in the green bucket) who have it. And then we can adopt vigorous hand washing and self isolating (when symptomatic) until another wave or a vaccine becomes available. I think less people would die there. I have a degree in epidemiology from LSHTM. Many assumptions are being made by Boris' team and this is a new virus, so how can we predict its behaviour? I wouldn't experiment with people's lives the way he has proposed. I expect him to follow suit with the world very soon.

Lycidas · 16/03/2020 08:16

Question: if there is a lockdown / restriction on movement in the UK, I assume we’ll still be allowed to travel to move house? (From current rental where our tenancy is due to expire, to house we’ve bought). Surely this counts as an essential?

Terryscombover · 16/03/2020 08:19

@Lycidas I hope so. We're two weeks from completion. However for our buyer and us I've asked for a Cv19 clause that allows for reasonable move of completion date in the exchange contract based on a requirement to self isolate and also if Government prohibit such movement. We'd lose 20 + k and our first time buyers much more if not.

picklemewalnuts · 16/03/2020 08:19

Dr Campbell said we have 5000 ventilators in the U.K.
If 5% of CV sufferers need one, then we'll have enough for 100,000 people to have CV at a time- assuming they aren't needed for existing patients. Obviously very loose numbers, there.

RedToothBrush · 16/03/2020 08:24

If the spare ventilator is in Fife but the next patient who needs it is in Devon, that's not a lot of use.

So it's not 100,000 cases for 5% who need it. It's slightly less than that because ventilator must be in the right location to be available at speed to those who need.
