AIBU to ask how many toilet rolls you currently have in your house?!

After being accused of panic buying and enabling/encouraging panic buying on another thread I’m curious as to what’s the norm.
As toilet roll seems to have sold out everywhere or most places at least - do you have a big stock of them normally?

We currently have 18 left over from one of the big packs of 40 from Costco we bought a while ago - always do our big shopping there so also have wipes and antibac laundry in volume for the same reason!

8 rolls left. Should do until the end of the month, maybe a bit longer

Sillyscrabblegames · 14/03/2020 22:17

42
Im actually using up our usual supplies as we haven't been able to pick any up in the shops the past two times we have been!

Noconceptofnormal · 14/03/2020 22:45

Maybe about 40, but we have a house with a ridiculous number of ensuites so they're spread across various loos. We are a household of six though.

I did panic buy but about a month ago before it all kicked off here.

MaMisled · 14/03/2020 22:49

76 !!!! Its a long story........

Ibizafun · 14/03/2020 22:51

Went to buy a pack of 9 in Tesco’s today as we’d run out and was Shock to see cashier open it take out two rolls and give them to me.. turns out you are only allowed to buy two rolls now there

Growingboys · 14/03/2020 22:55

About 50. I didn't panic buy in one go, but always have a lot in, and have been buying a bit extra over the last three weeks.

DonkeyKong2019 · 14/03/2020 22:55

Ibizafun they have that wrong?!

derenstar · 14/03/2020 22:56

We have 69 rolls purchased from Costco. We have always bought in bulk from Costco so this isn’t unusual for us and we typically by their Kirkland Triple Satin which comes in pack of 40. Our local Costco still have plenty but are limiting purchases to 1x40 pack per customer.

We get nearly everything other than fresh fruit and veg from Costco and always have done. We freeze things like milk and bread, taking it out as we need it. Lots of people poke fun when I tell them this but it suits us. We have a chest freezer in the garage and lucky to have decent cupboard space in the houses so storage isn’t an issue. I appreciate that we are fortunate to be able to buy in bulk. I don’t particularly like shopping so doing a big shop once every couple of months or so from Costco suits us. A while ago, I started buying the 5L bottle of Carex hand-wash rather than than 6x bottles, we still have half a bottle left which should last us another few months so very grateful. I also found a box of Sani Hands anti bacterial wipes in there last time we went, there was 12 in a box for £6 odd. I’m annoyed with myself that we did not buy more at the time!

Our neighbours asked us for some toilet paper the other days as they couldn’t find any in Sainsbury’s. I offered to get them some from Costco as they’re not members and they said they didn’t have space. They have the exact same house as us!

Paintedmaypole · 14/03/2020 23:59

I have 3. I went to buy another pack but none were available. I was intending to buy a normal sized pack as usual, not to stockpile.

DFAMA · 15/03/2020 00:16

3, there are 3 of us here so its not urgent but I would usually buy another pack of 9 before we get down to our last roll, thats obviously not an option with all the idiots round here stockpiling

BitchHazel · 15/03/2020 00:24

30ish. I bought a 24 pack on payday as I usually do, already had a nine pack in the cupboard as well.

Haven't bought any more than I normally would, just good timing that I did big monthly shop before the madness kicked off.

AHouseFullOfTerrors · 15/03/2020 00:29

48..
Do a big costco shop. Every 6 weeks when ds maintenence gets paid (ex likes to pay that way and suits me) I always buy 40 then. And that happened to be yesterday. Luckily I went early as its local and I got some as normal
They were well stocked but the cashier said they'll be gone In half hr! Crazy!
I felt people were judging me though for some reason.

TheLadyAnneNeville · 15/03/2020 00:36

About 48+. Usually have this amount. I buy from cash and carry. I always have to have lots in for DS who has OCD. Fuck knows what we’ll do when our stock runs down/out.

TheLadyAnneNeville · 15/03/2020 00:38

And he has proper full on, medicated and hospitalised OCD not the type that makes him straighten cushions and have all the tins facing front in the kitchen cupboards.

Itsjustmee · 15/03/2020 00:43

32 actual rolls of toilet paper
Normally have about 10 in the house
But I didn’t panic buy
I was on holiday when this all kicked off so started adding extra stuff each time I shopped

NoIDontWatchLoveIsland · 15/03/2020 01:55

I always have around 12-16 in minimum (larger packs are always cheaper per roll & it doesn't go off, does it Hmm). Currently have around 30 in as got DH to pick up extra 3 weeks ago when DS & DD had D&V.

contentedsoul · 15/03/2020 03:09

All this panic buying...
Be hopes the national grid doesn’t go down when we are all forced to stay at home and self isolate.
Can you even imagine the impact that all these families that may be forced to stay home this consuming both gas and electric will do. If the grid goes down then chest full freezers stock piled will defrost.

Thanks to the media for creating hysteria....as per usual

Anyone else noted the BBC News app is more akin to tabloid sensationalism these days.

Winterlife · 15/03/2020 03:15

81, all purchased before Coronavirus was even discovered in Wuhan. I buy a 30 pack at Costco every time they are on sale and store them in the garage. It’s probably a six month (or longer) supply.

I gave 6 to my son, as his local shop was out and he couldn’t find any. I offered more, but he said 6 was plenty.

Winterlife · 15/03/2020 03:18

Most stores in my area are out of chicken-whole chickens, breasts, thighs, and drumsticks. Also toilet paper. It’s ridiculous.

I have 3 whole chickens and a dozen breasts in the freezer, also purchased before panic buying, also all on sale.

BarbaraofSeville · 15/03/2020 07:18

But other uses of power like restaurants, some businesses etc won't be operating so power is saved there. There's also measures in place to keep vital national infrastructure running so we're a long way from the power going off.

BecauseReasons · 15/03/2020 07:23

There was a man in the supermarket yesterday panic-buying soya milk. Literally had a trolley full and was reaching right back to the end of the shelf to ensure he'd not missed any. Hmm

DanielRicciardosSmile · 15/03/2020 07:23
  1. I bought 2 4-packs last Saturday as we were down to 1 roll. I'd have only bought 1 pack but they were on a 2-for-1 deal.
speakout · 15/03/2020 07:26

I have around 50.

But if you had asked me this time last year the answer would have been the same.
I always carry a good amount of bulk supplies- I live in rural Scotland, and take advantage of special offers when I can. My garage has lots of deep shelving and always full of canned goods, detergent, rice, pasta, pet food, oil etc.
It's just the way I live.

Juanbablo · 15/03/2020 07:45

In laws got us a pack of 9 and we have a few left from the last pack. So probably 12 or 13 in total and 1 kitchen roll.

Scruffyoak · 15/03/2020 07:49

We have 3 floors and 3 toilets (not a massive house just a standard townhouse lol)- but it's a nightmare so I have a pack on each floor usually just to avoid hassle + spare in garage so it's not new for me to have a supply
