Travelling, making other decisions around
exposure

read up, noone can decide for you, but be aware...
Your mode of transport (train/boat/plane) is unlikely to be disinfected.
You may not be welcome back at work (forced isolation unpaid because you decided to take risk)
Getting stuck in quarantine in another country, subjected to their health service and govt restrictions on you.
What happens with your dc and school upon return.
Holiday insurance cover?

Positive ways of coping

Exercise daily, out where you won't be in close proximity (greater than 2 metres)

Eat well, healthy foods, plenty of liquid

Include natural antivirals in diet and good levels of daily vit c, vit d

Rest

Take steps to address any raised anxiety, above what might be reasonable and normal steps for keeping viral hygiene under control.
Its normal to feel more anxious, and normal to take steps to manage situation by being well prepared.

Isolation Issues

Getting sufficient shopping in on low incomes, and/or vulnerable / already isolated

Keeping on top of KEY METERS - need to top up yet in isolation - what measures are there to help

Paying mortgage/rent (private & housing associations) if not receiving sick pay

Legislation that enforced isolation = sick (for sick pay purposes)

       <strong>*</strong><strong>*</strong><strong>*</strong><strong>*</strong><strong>*</strong><strong>*</strong><strong>*</strong>**,

Primary mode of transmission is airborne droplets.

Sneeze or cough into elbow (or tissue and bin it). Droplets can travel 2m.

Secondary means of transmission touch.

Hand wash to
Break the transmission cycle from hand to mouth, eyes, nose, or to others, by 20 seconds plus thorough hand washing (soap and water).

Alcohol breaks down the outer layer of virus to effectively kill, other methods may not.
(Anti bacterial does NOT do this and overuse may risk bacterial resistance).

Use 70% vol alcohol to any other additive

Watching Parliament Live (15 minutes behind as I was late), if Hancock says Guided By The Science one more time I swear I'm going to scream...
Some excellent questions from other MPs, it's clear they have been listening to constituents.

GhostofFrankGrimes · 11/03/2020 19:40

You know what they say you get the government you deserve. 3 months into a 5 year administration...

Janemarpling · 11/03/2020 19:40

Show us the Science!

Flaxmeadow · 11/03/2020 19:40

I have been reading all day andi keep coming back to JFK's speech , ask not what your country can do for you but what you can do for your country . If all of us that are well and able to help can and do we could not only survive this but thrive . If we shop for elderly and vulnerable neighbours and leave on doorsteps we can help self quarantine people . If we help out family and friends with childcare if schools close then we can share the hardships and help with the idea or herd immunity and keep the country running

Well said Ejmorgan

Lynamic · 11/03/2020 19:40

I don't think viruses attack the immune system apart from HIV, do they ? Happymum2019 I started feeling like that when I saw what's happening in China. Although I thought it might be nice to have a break from everything. Getting pretty scary now.

GalOopNorth · 11/03/2020 19:40

Good point about staff. Some really good questions being asked.
“Inviting recent retirees back in” - will be part of “The Bill”

They seem to think the virus will wait till they get their act together.

Jumpingintodarkness · 11/03/2020 19:41

What's the point of any powers if schools are not closed.

No school, no college, no uni.

If he says 111 once more I'll scream.

defthand · 11/03/2020 19:41

What a terrible look it is for Parliament to fe so self-focused when they are requiring the rest of us to “take it on the chin” and stick to “business as usual”.

I agree that they should be working remotely. But we all should be, in so much as that is possible, at this point.

NewYearNewTwatName · 11/03/2020 19:41

Had to turn the tv off, I couldn't bear to hear his bullshit waffle anymore and I just can't afford a new tv.

See I'm not sold on Chris Whitty. yeah I know he has a huge CV but he's spent a long time hanging out with his Westminster buddies.

I saw an interview with another viral expert from oxford, and he was pretty clear that if they are waiting for a certain amount before implementing stuff, then it would be too late.

I.DO.NOT.TRUST.CHRIS.WHITTY.
Or the government in the slightest.

All about the MPs again...

BeyondMymymymyCorona · 11/03/2020 19:41

Rather than vaguely tell everyone to call 111 if they think they have it, would it not make more sense to tell people to call 111 if they have returned from xyz/had contact with a confirmed case (much as I agree these won't show true numbers, I understand the point in minimising how many people call 111 or get tested)/ARE UNABLE TO BREATHE.

Make it very very clear that given no reason to suspect your common or garden cold is CV, you do not need to call 111 unless you cannot breathe.

I am worried for the 1/5 who need o2 that they may not get taken seriously enough to even get to hospital, if they can even get through.

SansaSnark · 11/03/2020 19:41

Not sure if the updated France figures have been posted yet, but they are now up to 2281 cases (497 new ones today). They are stopping people visiting old people's homes for "several weeks".

Jumpingintodarkness · 11/03/2020 19:42

Go bell!!

middleager · 11/03/2020 19:42

Call for all of the House to be tested!

ShootEmUpSarsaparilla · 11/03/2020 19:42

Huh. Well.

Been lurking on the threads trying to get some sort of clarity, waited with baited breath and hoped for some sort of guidance from Parliament this evening but it just looks all a bit Brexit II to me.

they say you get the government you deserve

Quite. I've resisted posting that line, but it rings through my head all bloody day at the moment.

SansaSnark · 11/03/2020 19:44

@BeyondMymymymyCorona If you can't breath, you should be calling 999, not 111- it's not an emergency service.

It's important to have the 111 service available to everyone, because it will stop people with symptoms rocking up at GPs and hospitals.

There is already community transmission, and soon they will need to start testing people without known contact with a case, IMO.

HeronLanyon · 11/03/2020 19:44

ejmorgan flax agree. Saw elderly woman struggling home with small shop today. Three of us noticed. A young guy stopped and spoke to her to offer help and did help her. I’m very aware that our elderly in particular plus those with health relevant conditions will be finding this difficult (although my older neighbours have said they are fine for now).

Horehound · 11/03/2020 19:45

I agree with their tactic. They want to advise a lockdown/self isolation when we are nearer peak to protect more people rather than do it now and then everyone get bored and start going out again in two weeks when it's likely to peak.

I did like that the Derby MP challenged them on why we aren’t using the easier test that gives results in 10 minutes which apparently scientists in Derby manufactured and are exporting to other countries
