Travelling, making other decisions around
exposure

read up, noone can decide for you, but be aware...
Your mode of transport (train/boat/plane) is unlikely to be disinfected.
You may not be welcome back at work (forced isolation unpaid because you decided to take risk)
Getting stuck in quarantine in another country, subjected to their health service and govt restrictions on you.
What happens with your dc and school upon return.
Holiday insurance cover?

Positive ways of coping

Exercise daily, out where you won't be in close proximity (greater than 2 metres)

Eat well, healthy foods, plenty of liquid

Include natural antivirals in diet and good levels of daily vit c

Rest

Take steps to address any raised anxiety, above what might be reasonable and normal steps for keeping viral hygiene under control.
Its normal to feel more anxious, and normal to take steps to manage situation by being well prepared.

Isolation Issues

Getting sufficient shopping in on low incomes, and/or vulnerable / already isolated

Keeping on top of KEY METERS - need to top up yet in isolation - what measures are there to help

Paying mortgage/rent (private & housing associations) if not receiving sick pay

Legislation that enforced isolation = sick (for sick pay purposes)

       <strong>*</strong><strong>*</strong><strong>*</strong><strong>*</strong><strong>*</strong><strong>*</strong><strong>*</strong>**,

Primary mode of transmission is airborne droplets.

Sneeze or cough into elbow (or tissue and bin it). Droplets can travel 2m.

Secondary means of transmission touch.

Hand wash to
Break the transmission cycle from hand to mouth, eyes, nose, or to others, by 20 seconds plus thorough hand washing (soap and water).

Alcohol breaks down the outer layer of virus to effectively kill, other methods may not.
(Anti bacterial does NOT do this and overuse may risk bacterial resistance).

Use 2/3rds vol alcohol to any other additive

Holiday wise I think I'd cancel, but keep the money available and the time off booked. Then book something last minute if it's okay by then.

Apricotfool · 11/03/2020 10:16

My dd (hcp) had a patient in for a non urgent test yesterday. After test patient says “oh I had a student test positive this week and have t been feeling well. Still waiting for 111 to call me back, they’re useless, ha ha ha”

Wtf is wrong with people, if patient has students they’re obviously educated.

Trying not to panic about DD (has asthma but is very young) have told her to speak to managers today to see if it’s ok to ask patients if they’ve felt unwell before any tests, ask them to leave if they have.

Poor NHS staff but be terrifying Sad

colouringinpro · 11/03/2020 10:17

I know it's tiny in the scheme of things, but our UK holiday starting 5 April looks unlikely. I'm gutted, me and kids have had a shit time over the last few years and were all really looking forward to it (and needed it) I know, pity party.

cjt110 · 11/03/2020 10:17

@ToughGuy Ours was booked early Jan before CV19 was a thing too. Just trying to figure out what our options are and the outcomes. We are going to the UAE and at present, there may be health checks at the airport when landing but that's it.

Teddypops · 11/03/2020 10:19

Gah! its in my village!! Confused

Only a handful of cases in the whole county and 2 are in my village. This is confirmed as I know the family.

Thunderpunt · 11/03/2020 10:22

@BookMeOnTheSudExpress you're correct of course, the one person only thing is in the north. My SIL is stuck in Lombardia, but I have family in Napoli and Toscana so various scenes being played out.

usernameishistory · 11/03/2020 10:22

Ah, well, odd that the new dashboard link wasn't showing that number comenext, but I had seen that welsh update page, and certainly I can add that, no problem.

I thought I had it covered with the new dashboard link. Why on earth would they be different, how odd!

I know that the news will probably be focused on the interest rate cut and budget today, but does anyone know if there's still a COBRA meeting happening - and if so, when?

@Teddypops is that Chorley?

From the link about gym from the Mirror

“with fitness fanatics likely to be a 'high risk' group”

What’s that about? Likely aren’t we all a bit likely to catch it.

I go 3 times a week to my gym. Wash hands when entering, before I touch any equipment, wear my lifting gloves for everything, try to not touch face, keep a meter away from other users.
Then wash when finished on way out. Automatic door entry as you approach.

This to me seems to be scaremongering, as you take good hygiene precautions in a gym, supermarket petrol pump etc you are doing all that’s asked. Most gyms aren’t shoulder to shoulder apart from gym classes perhaps more closer set up.

Thoughts about continuing?

SansaSnark · 11/03/2020 10:29

I wouldn't cancel holidays as if travel advice changes you could get money back via insurance. However I definitely wouldn't be booking anything new and I probably would cancel if I had to pay new insurance.

I wouldn't actually travel though at the moment.

I understand not wanting to click on a link with no idea which paper it's from. Many people won't read a link from The Sun for example.

GrizzlebumsMum · 11/03/2020 10:30

Well I didn’t know that it could cause diarrhoea! I’m now concerned as my 15 month old developed a weird case of diarrhoea a couple of weeks ago which took nearly a fortnight to ease up. In the middle of that he developed a snotty nose and a nasty cough, one of those coughs that sounds phlegmy. I’ve kept him off nursery and we took him to the doctors last week as he wasn’t getting better and he had a slightly raised temp. The doctor said ‘well it could be viral, it could be bacterial. Here’s some antibiotics, it’s up to you where you give them or not’. We haven’t given them.

His temp has been ok since but my husband and I both now have coughs and feel run down. I have a sore throat, he feels achy. We both commute into central London. My boss has me working from home but not my husband’s employer. I’ve been trying to reassure myself that this is just the usual toddler picking up all the winter bugs but CV has got me anxious. Shall I call 111 or am I just worrying with no reason. I mean, they’re not likely to test us anyway.

SansaSnark · 11/03/2020 10:31

Keeping fit and healthy and reducing stress helps the immune system. Personally I'd continue to go to the gym but wipe down all machines carefully and use good hygiene practices. Definitely wash my hands thoroughly afterwards.

My understanding (fellow HCP) is you should be asking about travel history and exposure to known cases, and declining to see (if not in the building) and isolating if they are. Certainly that's what the PHE guidance for primary care states, and I can't imagine it would be any different in secondary care.

The British woman who died in Bali was on holiday, she arrived on the 29th of February, showed symptoms on the 3rd of March. Indonesian authorities claim she was infected abroad (likely U.K.)

She was 53 and diabetic.

hilbil21 · 11/03/2020 10:38

How do we all feel about travel within the U.K. just now? We live in Scotland and there's only 1 case in our county, but are due to go to Liverpool this weekend. Would you still travel and just be sensible??
