Travelling, making other decisions around
exposure

read up, noone can decide for you, but be aware...
Your mode of transport (train/boat/plane) is unlikely to be disinfected.
You may not be welcome back at work (forced isolation unpaid because you decided to take risk)
Getting stuck in quarantine in another country, subjected to their health service and govt restrictions on you.
What happens with your dc and school upon return.
Holiday insurance cover?

Positive ways of coping

Exercise daily, out where you won't be in close proximity (greater than 2 metres)

Eat well, healthy foods, plenty of liquid

Include natural antivirals in diet and good levels of daily vit c

Rest

Take steps to address any raised anxiety, above what might be reasonable and normal steps for keeping viral hygiene under control.
Its normal to feel more anxious, and normal to take steps to manage situation by being well prepared.

Isolation Issues

Getting sufficient shopping in on low incomes, and/or vulnerable / already isolated

Keeping on top of KEY METERS - need to top up yet in isolation - what measures are there to help

Paying mortgage/rent (private & housing associations) if not receiving sick pay

Legislation that enforced isolation = sick (for sick pay purposes)

       <strong>*</strong><strong>*</strong><strong>*</strong><strong>*</strong><strong>*</strong><strong>*</strong><strong>*</strong>**,

Primary mode of transmission is airborne droplets.

Sneeze or cough into elbow (or tissue and bin it). Droplets can travel 2m.

Secondary means of transmission touch.

Hand wash to
Break the transmission cycle from hand to mouth, eyes, nose, or to others, by 20 seconds plus thorough hand washing (soap and water).

Alcohol breaks down the outer layer of virus to effectively kill, other methods may not.
(Anti bacterial does NOT do this and overuse may risk bacterial resistance).

Use 2/3rds vol alcohol to any other additive

Of- they're often coming up as tinyurls so you can't see for example if it's the Mail or the Sun or Twitter. Some of them show what the source us, others don't. You can add the source following the MN instructions, can't remember exactly, I think by adding a space and then the source name.

Does anyone know if UK cases are based on tests and deaths within this geography?

For example, will the UK lady who has sadly died in Bali be counted against the UK figures, or not, because of the nature of this testing/analysis?

AnneKipanki · 11/03/2020 09:43

I think you can get it again @cjt110 . A virus mutates .

Are they going to hide some nasty budget things eg increases in petrol prices behind coronavirus measures?

cjt110 · 11/03/2020 09:44

20% of cases who need treatment there Is that people with pre-existing conditions?

BeyondMymymymyCorona · 11/03/2020 09:44

It's 15 cases in Wales now:

Quartz2208 · 11/03/2020 09:45

@cjt110 the problem I see it is what is the line between being a moderate case and staying at home and going in because you need oxygen - making sure that people dont go when they dont need to but dont delay getting oxygen when they need it.

and its getting that balance right that is going to be very very tricky

Mary1935 · 11/03/2020 09:45

“No problem - just like the flu - no need to panic”

BeyondMymymymyCorona · 11/03/2020 09:46

Cgt, iirc 40% of adults have a pre-existing health condition, but don't know what % of that would have a relevant PEC.

BeyondMymymymyCorona · 11/03/2020 09:47

Wish I could get some oxygen for home - I'm always the person who leaves it too long before seeing a dr and ends up in hospital. 😕

Fourducksate · 11/03/2020 09:47

I think Nadine Dorries is getting a bad rap, how many of you sometimes feel under the weather, but carry on, or think it’s just a late night?

I’ve got a cold, started Monday feeling achy and a headache, now got the runny nose etc. I would have normally gone to work yesterday and today but didn’t, I work in a large university and don’t get paid if I don’t work.

It does mean however I have had time to email my MP and ask him to take action on public gatherings and schools!

cjt110 · 11/03/2020 09:47

I must say, the problem is the "I'm alright Jack" mentality. If you have been in contact with someone who has tested positive, then self fucking isolate. Just because you haven't any symptoms YET doesn't mean you haven't contracted it and are merrily going about spreading it around.

That and people who think "Well, I've not travelled so I can't have it" and also carry on. My own daft Mum was a prime example of this. She has COPD and ongoing chest issues. I asked her if her GP had asked any screening questions when she called for an appointment. They did. She said to me "I won't have that virus anyway as I've not been anywhere" That's the point. People who haven't been anywhere are contracting it because others have it and aren't self isolating because they don't have symptoms....

GAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! Rant over.

Continue as you were.....

A second MP has self-isolated after meeting with Nadine Dorries, the health minister who has tested positive for coronavirus

ofwarren I had a look back and of the 2 gym links you posted, only the first is 'active'. I think it's because you didn't post the second link on a new line.

cjt110 · 11/03/2020 09:49

@Quartz2208 Yes, time is of the essence and a very tricky balance.

I've run out of pasta... ffs. This is from our normal shop. That will be fun at lunchime...

ofwarren · 11/03/2020 09:49

@crunchycarrot

Is the one that worked the original one I posted, rather than the reply to username?.

CrunchyCarrot · 11/03/2020 09:50

I must say, the problem is the "I'm alright Jack" mentality.

Yep that's what is called Normalcy Bias (I had no idea that was a thing, but it does explain why so many just won't accept what's going on).

A second MP has self-isolated after meeting with Nadine Dorries, the health minister who has tested positive for coronavirus And good on her. She's asymptomatic but using her brains and taking precautionary measures.

Saucery · 11/03/2020 09:51

Nadine Dorries was only following the advice the rest of us are being asked to follow. Which shows how out of date and useless that advice now is.

Lynatic · 11/03/2020 09:51

I've done the same running. Probably unusual but what are we meant to do just act normal

cjt110 · 11/03/2020 09:53

Can I also check my understanding...

We are due to go away in August and DH is concerned "I'm not paying £3k for a holiday if we end up losing our money because of this"

I said to him the way I see it, the world is OK by then and we go, or, a travel ban is introduced by the FCO and we get a refund via ABTA.

That's right isn't it?

SansaSnark · 11/03/2020 09:53

Good to see MPs self isolating and setting a good example for the rest of the country.

I hope this wakes parliament in general up to the wider risks and encourages them to test more people with cold/flu symptoms in the community.
