Travelling, making other decisions around
exposure

read up, noone can decide for you, but be aware...
Your mode of transport (train/boat/plane) is unlikely to be disinfected.
You may not be welcome back at work (forced isolation unpaid because you decided to take risk)
Getting stuck in quarantine in another country, subjected to their health service and govt restrictions on you.
What happens with your dc and school upon return.
Holiday insurance cover?

Positive ways of coping

Exercise daily, out where you won't be in close proximity (greater than 2 metres)

Eat well, healthy foods, plenty of liquid

Include natural antivirals in diet and good levels of daily vit c

Rest

Take steps to address any raised anxiety, above what might be reasonable and normal steps for keeping viral hygiene under control.
Its normal to feel more anxious, and normal to take steps to manage situation by being well prepared.

Isolation Issues

Getting sufficient shopping in on low incomes, and/or vulnerable / already isolated

Keeping on top of KEY METERS - need to top up yet in isolation - what measures are there to help

Paying mortgage/rent (private & housing associations) if not receiving sick pay

Legislation that enforced isolation = sick (for sick pay purposes)

       <strong>*</strong><strong>*</strong><strong>*</strong><strong>*</strong><strong>*</strong><strong>*</strong><strong>*</strong>**,

Primary mode of transmission is airborne droplets.

Sneeze or cough into elbow (or tissue and bin it). Droplets can travel 2m.

Secondary means of transmission touch.

Hand wash to
Break the transmission cycle from hand to mouth, eyes, nose, or to others, by 20 seconds plus thorough hand washing (soap and water).

Alcohol breaks down the outer layer of virus to effectively kill, other methods may not.
(Anti bacterial does NOT do this and overuse may risk bacterial resistance).

Use 2/3rds vol alcohol to any other additive

Boris was at the commonwealth service on Sunday.

BBC reporter says Boris Johnson, Matt Hancock not being tested at the moment.

Labour’s Rachael Maskell MP (asymptomatic) is self-isolating after a meeting with ND.

The International Women’s Day reception on Thursday attended by ND included leading female politicians (Liz Truss, possibly Priti Patel) and distinguished women from a range of fields including athletes such as Kelly Holmes.

Violetparis · 11/03/2020 09:29

Thanks Oldmrswasherwoman, we weren't sure if it was a more widespread practice.

StrawberryJam200 · 11/03/2020 09:29

Is that his weekly audience or a special visit? Not that it matters risk-wise to the Queen of course, just wondered if it was a sign that they’re about to announce something really big.

Also, although I understand frustration of many people not being able to get tested vs. possibility that government ministers getting fast tracked / routinely tested or something, don’t we need to do all we can to protect our government at such a time? Many of us may not have great faith in Boris & co, but they’re all we’ve got at present!

Skyejuly · 11/03/2020 09:29

The gym I go to has around 40 users is very small in our community. There is still a risk but it's easier to sanitize when less use and easier to check people are washing hands. I use gloves for kettlebells but I did have to borrow the wrist bands as I had forgotten mine. I had to wash my hands after and the bands went in a pot of bleach in the gym.

May I also ask, (Another Q from the husband this morning) what happens if you get CV19? In the case above, Nadine Dorries is just self isolating? Who has said that is the course of action and she doesn't need to be hospitalised?

cjt110 · 11/03/2020 09:31

@onalongsabbatical Cheers

usernameishistory · 11/03/2020 09:31

Its not skin to skin, but whether pathogens are shed, through sweat, and then picked up on fingers and transferred to mouth?

Anyone could be shedding.

OP posts:
Quartz2208 · 11/03/2020 09:33

Initially I think all cases were hospitalised in order to quarantine - we have moved to self isolation now and only need to be hospitalised if symptoms need it.

From what she has tweeted she is feeling ok

cjt110 · 11/03/2020 09:34

@Quartz2208 Thanks for clarifying this :) That should help the NHS with the burden if people are self treating at home.

Antonio Pesenti, head of the Lombardy regional crisis response unit, told the Corriere della Sera newspaper the health system in Lombardy was “a step away from collapse”
as intensive care facilities came under growing strain from the new cases.

“We’re now being forced to set up intensive care treatment in corridors, in operating theaters, in recovery rooms.

We’ve emptied entire hospital sections to make space for seriously sick people,”
he said.

BarbedBloom · 11/03/2020 09:36

Am at the GP surgery for my routine blood tests at the moment. Someone just coughed all over the touch screen and there is no way of cleaning it apparently. Glad I have hand sanitizer and won't touch my face until I get home. Another person just sneezed all over the seats. Envy

BigChocFrenzy · 11/03/2020 09:38

Like everyone else, Dorries should stay home if sick

and only go to hospital if she comes under the 20% of cases who need treatment there

quiteathome · 11/03/2020 09:38

When do they start testing people with symptoms who have not been out of the country?

From my understandning at the moment they are still focusing on people who have travelled. (I am probably out of date)

They are all blue clicky links on my phone and on the laptop.
I don't know how to change it so it is for you.

BookMeOnTheSudExpress · 11/03/2020 09:41

BigChoc, that doctor's testimony is thought by many to be what pushed the govt into making the whole country a "protected area". It's from the end of last week. He had previously said (many times,) that if people stayed at home for a few weeks this thing could be beaten.

ofwarren · 11/03/2020 09:41

I don't know how to screenshot @usernameishistory but even on the post you cut and paste, there is a blue underlined clicky link that takes me to the daily mirror. It must be an issue at your end because it's definitely there.

ChipotleBlessing · 11/03/2020 09:42

I expect Boris doesn’t meet the criteria of a close contact, as he’s unlikely to have spent 15 minutes with her at a busy reception. I don’t think she will be attending COBRA either as Matt Hancock will be the DoH representative

MurrayTheMonk · 11/03/2020 09:43

Finally word from the higher ups at work. We've been told to put sanitiser by the front door of the care services and ask everyone to use it.

We did that about a week ago, but ta Hmm
