Travelling, making other decisions around
exposure

read up, noone can decide for you, but be aware...
Your mode of transport (train/boat/plane) is unlikely to be disinfected.
You may not be welcome back at work (forced isolation unpaid because you decided to take risk)
Getting stuck in quarantine in another country, subjected to their health service and govt restrictions on you.
What happens with your dc and school upon return.
Holiday insurance cover?

Positive ways of coping

Exercise daily, out where you won't be in close proximity (greater than 2 metres)

Eat well, healthy foods, plenty of liquid

Include natural antivirals in diet and good levels of daily vit c

Rest

Take steps to address any raised anxiety, above what might be reasonable and normal steps for keeping viral hygiene under control.
Its normal to feel more anxious, and normal to take steps to manage situation by being well prepared.

Isolation Issues

Getting sufficient shopping in on low incomes, and/or vulnerable / already isolated

Keeping on top of KEY METERS - need to top up yet in isolation - what measures are there to help

Paying mortgage/rent (private & housing associations) if not receiving sick pay

Legislation that enforced isolation = sick (for sick pay purposes)

       <strong>*</strong><strong>*</strong><strong>*</strong><strong>*</strong><strong>*</strong><strong>*</strong><strong>*</strong>**,

Primary mode of transmission is airborne droplets.

Sneeze or cough into elbow (or tissue and bin it). Droplets can travel 2m.

Secondary means of transmission touch.

Hand wash to
Break the transmission cycle from hand to mouth, eyes, nose, or to others, by 20 seconds plus thorough hand washing (soap and water).

Alcohol breaks down the outer layer of virus to effectively kill, other methods may not.
(Anti bacterial does NOT do this and overuse may risk bacterial resistance).

Use 2/3rds vol alcohol to any other additive

@valleyofthehorses to me that reads like anyone admitted to hospital will be tested, and anyone returning from a hot-spot or with close contact will be tested regardless of symptoms.

I think if you presented with mild symptoms that didn't require hospitalisation, you might not be tested if there were no epidemiological links.

SansaSnark · 11/03/2020 06:57

I'm also not a doctor though.

usernameishistory · 11/03/2020 06:58

Ues, the key is what leads into the 'assessment' process that is the first point in hospital

SunshineCake · 11/03/2020 06:58

I would really appreciate a list of symptoms as I fear I'm not aware of all of them. I've got asthma and a recovering from a heart attack dh and getting worried I may be passing it on without knowing I have it.

SansaSnark · 11/03/2020 07:01

I agree that students are unlikely to be keen to volunteer in care homes - many already have jobs that they need to keep and aren't just free even in the holidays. Many also have exams in May - unless the government are expecting these to be cancelled.

It sounds like they aren't planning on DBS checking these volunteers - but I think we knew that was possible when they started talking about relaxing health and safety legislation!

Galleyfm · 11/03/2020 07:03

@usernameishistory and @kimonoKim, thank you. I've found it now.

Common signs of infection include respiratory symptoms, fever, cough, shortness of breath and breathing difficulties. In more severe cases, infection can cause pneumonia, severe acute respiratory syndrome, kidney failure and even death

Thibk most of todays corona news will be budget based in preps

OP posts:
SansaSnark · 11/03/2020 07:04

As I understand it based on testing criteria - The symptoms to look out for are cough and fever. Many people also experience fatigue, aching muscles and shortness of breath. Sore throats and upper respiratory symptoms (eg runny nose) seems to come later on if at all.

SansaSnark · 11/03/2020 07:06

I wonder if they want to get the budget done before announcing more quarentine measures?

usernameishistory · 11/03/2020 07:06

Their biggest issue is managing people (is my personal view)

Hence the way testing numbers are being managed.

As now we will move to greater testing numbers, we can blame that for the dramatic increase in numbers that is coming.

fedup21 · 11/03/2020 07:07

Has anybody else read the bbc news about cocooning care homes and them being staffed by the goodwill of volunteers? The government are suggesting students might like to be trained up during the Easter holidays. To me it demonstrates how out of touch the government is.

Exactly! Students use the holidays to earn money as their maintenance loans they’ll get will be so pitiful yet the same government who give them the pitiful loans want them to work free?!

usernameishistory · 11/03/2020 07:08

In addition to the WHO symptoms I listed above, I have seen posted on here mention of a tight band feeling.

I would be worried that sounds like a heart attack and should be seeking immediate help!

Eeyoresstickhouse · 11/03/2020 07:15

I was not expecting such a large rate cut. 0.5% is quite a jump! Interesting news may be coming out of the budget today.

Bumblesbumbles · 11/03/2020 07:19

Wow

usernameishistory · 11/03/2020 07:19

Using local labs increasing testing capacity, with level 1 and 2 containment.

This is also on WHO regarding symptoms

The most common symptoms of COVID-19 are fever, tiredness, and dry cough. Some patients may have aches and pains, nasal congestion, runny nose, sore throat or diarrhea. These symptoms are usually mild and begin gradually. Some people become infected but don’t develop any symptoms and don't feel unwell. Most people (about 80%) recover from the disease without needing special treatment. Around 1 out of every 6 people who gets COVID-19 becomes seriously ill and develops difficulty breathing. Older people, and those with underlying medical problems like high blood pressure, heart problems or diabetes, are more likely to develop serious illness. People with fever, cough and difficulty breathing should seek medical attention.

Could you please add the links for Covid19 cases in Wales and Scotland as it is not included in the UK figures.

I'm very glad that testing will be expanded. I imagine there will be a huge leap in numbers in the next few days as results start coming in.
