@MrsTerryPratchett have they booked tickets back? Best to check with the airline and leave ASAP tbh. Flights from us to Spain seem to not be happening.

They should be coming back this weekend. Fingers crossed. My mum is fairly intrepid and will handle having to deal with some discomfort to get home if needed. My dad, maybe not.

Nameisthegame · 14/03/2020 15:33

Might be worth bringing some snacks and water Incase there’s a wait .

For those in Spain, Tuesday (I know you can't say for sure) but Mercadona will be open do you think?

DD is Spanish and says yes. Loads of people with yappy dogs outside atm. Beach is shut.

BillieEilish · 14/03/2020 15:57

Thanks for sympathy about opera singer. She shut up after 1/2 an hour. I had to denounce her 2 years ago. Shock

Worried for next 2 weeks though. It is hell when she boots it out. (and I love opera)

BirdandSparrow · 14/03/2020 16:04

Yes, Mercadona will be open. Food shops will reamin open. The state of alarm gives the government powers to ensure supply chains and control business if necessary.

Nameisthegame · 14/03/2020 16:27

@BillieEilish should be open but I don’t think they are delivering right now.

OP posts:
Nameisthegame · 14/03/2020 16:27

Atleast they’re not delivering here

BillieEilish · 14/03/2020 16:38

Thanks everyone, OK, got it (DD is only 11,so only so much she can tell me!) I know they're not delivering atm.
Do you all have a holiday on Thursday?

AutumnLeavesSeptember · 14/03/2020 16:43

Anybody know anything about the situation in Tenerife? DH parents are there- elderly and w lots of conditions, and I'm very worried.

Nameisthegame · 14/03/2020 16:48

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2020_coronavirus_pandemic_in_Spain Not sure what area Tenerife is but this has a break down of sorts.

I'd be concerned about flights back @AutumnLeavesSeptember, but it changes hourly.
Thanks @Nameisthegame

DS lives in Madrid - it’s locked down, with only pharmacies & supermarkets open. He is self isolating as three friends are suffering with Covid 19 symptoms. All 3 were at a gathering where a number of (young, fit) people who are now confirmed cases. DS tells me that some of them need hospitalisation and the situation is bad.

Nameisthegame · 14/03/2020 17:09

I’m so sorry to hear that hope your son will be okay, I’m tired of people saying it only facets the elderly and those with underlying conditions.

BillieEilish · 14/03/2020 17:13

I'm just going to the supermarket and staying in. Puts it in perspective @FreyaMountstuart. Reality check.

Hope your son is ok Flowers

FreyaMountstuart · 14/03/2020 17:14

Thank you - he says he feels ok and has no symptoms (just missing his partner! - her father has cancer so they can’t meet). I’m glad he is being responsible though.

BillieEilish · 14/03/2020 17:20

There seems to be a huge divide between here and the UK. (Attitudes towards this I mean). People should wise up in the UK I think,

Your son is being very responsible.

BirdandSparrow · 14/03/2020 17:46

I think people in the UK just don't get it really. But they will, beacause they've done feck all so now they'll start to see more deaths. It's small still but doubling now. Double in the UK today what it was yesterday.

BirdandSparrow · 14/03/2020 17:47

There are photos circulating on Fb of Seville and Cordoba today, totally empty streets.

elQuintoConyo · 14/03/2020 17:51

Our main placa is totally empty, it's uncanny. I half expect to see Rick Grimes ride his horse through the middle Confused

There are still a handful of people on the beach, all ages, people out jogging. But oh so quiet. Unnerving

MissMoiselle · 14/03/2020 18:12

@missclimpson is this a fact? I have dogs and today I walked them in (what I thought was) a remote area, only to find dozens of families riding their bikes with their kids Confused
I anyone knows any specifics about dog walking, please share!

BirdandSparrow · 14/03/2020 18:20

I would walk my dog if I had one. Just keep a few metres from people. But then I don't live in a city.
From Monday I will be taking the kids for walks through the "campo" and keeping well awa from everyone we meet.
People are allowed to go to work, so I think walking alone in the open air and keeping away from others is fine.

AutumnLeavesSeptember · 14/03/2020 18:34

Thanks for the info @Nameisthegame and @BillieEilish.

They are not due to fly home for another two weeks from Tenerife - if it were me, I'd try to fly home now rather than in the middle of a UK peak? Or better for them to stay on even longer as they may be safer in Tenerife?

missclimpson · 14/03/2020 18:37

Well I am only repeating what my son said about dog walking, but he is normally pretty well-informed. He is in Jaen.
