@PotsOfPebbles can you tell us what the news says when you get back? I don’t own a television and the news is beyond my Spanish speaking ability.

Just been updated. DH was right, he said this morning when it does it will be over 13 thousand. That's nearly 2000 more since last night.

Love a Duplo challenge! Last night the girls used it to make a food maze for the new Guinea pigs! Luckily we got the piggies pre-lock down and they've also been a great distraction!

I love guinea pigs! Nearly got the DC some when we moved in here because we have a garden, but we thought we'd do some travelling this summer in the 3 month break so decided not to, wish we had now!
What are yours called?

Nameisthegame · 18/03/2020 10:46

Awww the they are adorable! @Novia love the little adventure park set up 💚

Novia · 18/03/2020 10:52

They are adorable, we got them last Friday, literally right on the edge of lock-in as we hoped they would be a distraction, but also because it's DDs birthday next week.

They are called Caramel and Spotty-pig!

Just seen a guy, looked 30's, walking round the corner in a facemask. We live in a corner of the city, it's not busy. It jolted me.

Nameisthegame · 18/03/2020 12:08

@Novia adorable names!

@PotsOfPebbles plenty of face masks around here too, not sure where or when the elderly got them...maybe their kids or medical professionals gave them to them?

OP posts:
BirdandSparrow · 18/03/2020 12:15

Quite a few face masks in our village and gloves too. In the local Día they were making everyone wear plastic gloves. Our local police is giving daily updates on the numbers of people they've stopped and given a denuncia (not sure if this means like a fine or just a caution) and/or found to have a justified reason for being out. Which is a bit....I don't know...kind of full on.

elQuintoConyo · 18/03/2020 12:37

Great news about your DH's job Bird and I hope you get some work in. DH translates for a huge US company which is still sending him stuff, but he's a bit crap at invoicing so is owed €6000 which he "hopes" will come through, if the company doesn't shut.... He translates Sp-Eng/Eng-Span/Italian-Eng. Company called Transperfect, if that's any help to you. Great company, worked with them 10years+ good with payments, DH also does proofreading with them, quality control very high, very polite emails, muy professional!

LOVE the guinea pigs Novia Smile they must be a great source of entertainment in these crappy days.

I've got 4 hours of online classes today, just done one of them. It's weird, video calling your students . I'm sure it won't take long to become our normal.

expatinspain · 18/03/2020 12:39

Got told by my employer yesterday that I'm being given the ERTE. Not really sure how we claim yet as all the offices are closed or if it's automatic?!

On a better note, at least the weather has been better today. We sat out on the terrace and got a bit of vitamin D after two days of rain. Apparently it's raining all next week though 😔

Hope everyone's ok x

BirdandSparrow · 18/03/2020 12:44

I don't think it would be automatic, but it must be possible to do online with the estado de alerta.

quinto I've heard of transperfect but never worked with them. I've just emailed my 2 contacts at the agency I work with most often to ask if they're OK and tell them I'm available, can't hurt.

Okay my sister has looked and thinks they will be voting wether to keep it going until after the holidays.

OP posts:
BirdandSparrow · 18/03/2020 14:13

They have to vote to extend it, but I not be surprised at all. It says they want to avoid massive movement of people for Easter, 15 million journeys across Spain last Easter apparently. Also says that the PP supports the idea.

Nameisthegame · 18/03/2020 14:21

On the 29th of March? For the vote

BillieEilish · 18/03/2020 14:37

Hi everyone, so sorry for people's worries.
I am really depressed today! But I went to Mercadona at least, not busy (but I went deliberately at 2)

I'd been told hand gel, police at door etc. No, just a few stickers on the floor showing you where to line up and to keep apart.

No frutos secos, no beer, no sweets and no icecream. No yogurt. No fresh bread.

Everything else fine. I went for fresh fruit and veg which was being replenished and was plentiful. Also a bottle of vodka, which was also fine Grin

LOADS of older folk chatting away having a great time Hmm
No other children apart from DD. Loads of facemasks.

Anyway, I did it and this is our new normal and I feel a bit better knowing what that looks like.

Besos to everyone.

PS I love font en Carros, I nearly bought a house there.

BillieEilish · 18/03/2020 14:39

I don't see schools going back before May. Minimum.

BirdandSparrow · 18/03/2020 14:45

Well, even after semana santa would take us to mid April, right?

PotsOfPebbles · 18/03/2020 14:47

|I agree BillieEilish It wouldn't even surprise me if they don't open again before the summer holidays.

elQuintoConyo · 18/03/2020 14:55

Fuuuuuuuuuck! Better I say it on here rather than in front of ds!

BirdandSparrow · 18/03/2020 15:06

Arrrrgh, no...don't say that @PotsOfPebbles
We've got an apartment booked in Galicia at the end of June. I will (totally selfishly) be GUTTED if we can't go.

BillieEilish · 18/03/2020 15:55

I agree, DD breaks up mid June. I'll be surprised if back before then TBH. Thank God she is 11. If she was 5 I would be beside myself.

How will I get her birthday presents? Shock

She'll have the online lessons. That will be good. Routine already gone to pot.
