@BillieEilish fingers crossed for you, no real problems here yet. My mums a bit of a food hoarder so doubt we will run out of food but it will be strange pickings.

I think Spain’s starting to get really serious about it now.

I needed a giggle. Parents trying to work from home.

@PotsOfPebbles if only lol! My kid has had way too much Telly today while I’ve done a little work. My backs killing me so exercise tomorrow! She had a huge tantrum because she couldn’t come to the shop.

The 8pm clapping just happened. So beautiful. Someone had some fireworks tonight so let those off too.

Nameisthegame · 17/03/2020 19:14

There was a half hearted clap here lol 😂 not sure most people knew what was going on, no balconies though just and a lot of back facing balcony terrace things so you can’t see anyone lol

PotsOfPebbles · 17/03/2020 19:25

It was good here this evening. Lots of clapping, some pot banging and even some fireworks. Cases in this particular went up by quite a bit today, maybe that's why it was so enthusiastic.

Nameisthegame · 17/03/2020 19:28

I think it was just more not understanding it’s quite a elderly area I live in as it was all like social housing looks like the same ones as the uk. I saw a old man out today in a bathrobe slippers and face masks felt like a zombie film lol half expected him to run at me.

It’s great people are showing support.

DH got a message from an ex-colleague today. Most Vueling tech have been fired this morning. Most are employed via consultancies, even though they have been at Vueling for years.

So many people are now in deep deep trouble.

PotsOfPebbles · 17/03/2020 19:33

Numbers have just been updated.

Coronavirus Cases:
11,748
Deaths:
533
Recovered:
1,028

Germany has gone up a lot today. Over 2000 new cases there.

Nameisthegame · 17/03/2020 19:47

Jeez it’s only day 2. You’d think they would wait a bit longer. Money grabbers

PotsOfPebbles · 17/03/2020 20:42

The consultancies are trying to find them new work, but it's not a good time is it.

With it being a Spanish airline it might not even survive if this goes on a long time. People can't fly, and there's no end in sight right now.

elQuintoConyo · 17/03/2020 21:20

Oh Birds that's shit! I fear loss of income more than I fear catching the f*ing virus Angry

I work in an academy and we're doing our best to work via videoconferencing (hangouts, WhatsApp etc) so parents don't dump us! And the school doesn't go down the shutter. It's a great little school, been around since the mid-70s, solid reputation.

We all turned off our lights and waved our phones off our balconies at 9'30 tonight. I missed the memo about the clapping.

We're aiming to get a timetable in the house, get dressed everyday, time for studying, time for vleaning, time for Just Dance Grin time for playing rummikub or Uno etc. Otherwise we won't get out of our pyjamas and my mental health will plummet.

I've loved being part of this thread, thanks Nameisthegame for starting it.

I'm in Tarragona - anyone been here?

Nameisthegame · 17/03/2020 21:36

I actually thought you were in tarragona from your photos! I went there when dd was like 7 months? Feels so long ago now! I’ve only been to like seven places in Spain so was pretty suprised to recognize anything.

Was actually considering moving there as it was pretty nice but the prices 😬

We are in Andalucia on holiday. Arrived 4 weeks ago and were due to go back early April. All ferries from Santander have just been cancelled. We are travelling with our dog so options to return are more limited ☹️

Nameisthegame · 17/03/2020 21:50

Hi 👋 welcome sorry to hear your having trouble have you tried contacting the british consulate or citizen advice? Do you have somewhere safe to stay for now, can you stay out until April we’re hoping it will be over by then.

elQuintoConyo · 17/03/2020 21:54

We moved here from Barcelona, so were delighted with the prices Grin

It's a great town, big enough to be interesting, popular with tourists but not too heaving in summer, one hour from Barcelona, el cheapo Reus airport 15 minutes away, beach. Fabulous!

catwithflowers can you hunker down here until things reopen?

Novia · 17/03/2020 21:55

@BirdandSparrow - I'm so sorry love, are you guys okay? It's bloody gutting. I think a huge number of companies and people are going to struggle as this continues.

They still don't really seem to have sorted supply chains here either, nothing in the shops still. We are trying to only go twice a week but my friend just texted to say no meat, fruit or veg in the local Dia at all.

Today was okay but my eldest (7) is beginning to see the reality of it and was upset she couldn't play outside with the kids next door. 😢

We are just taking every day as it comes and trying not to catastrophise. It's hard because the UK has suddenly woken up to reality and my FB and group chats are suddenly full of panic which has a knock on effect. I also feel vaguely resentful as no one gave a stuff about me and my family last week when it started getting serious for us in Madrid. Resisting the urge to tell them to suck it up and get in with it...

Novia · 17/03/2020 21:58

Also - sharing a top tip for anyone with younger kids from one of my WhatsApp groups: my DDs have been doing 'cosmic yoga' every night. It has been a positive experience pre-bed. It's free on YouTube. Kills 15-30 mins too! It's easy for the kids to follow unsupervised.

catwithflowers · 17/03/2020 22:00

@nameisthegame We will look into things properly tomorrow as the ferry schedule changed only a few hours ago. We have rented a house until the beginning of April and will have a chat with the owner tomorrow depending on what’s happening with the ferry company. We may be able to stay here longer until the ferry route resumes. 🙏🏻

BirdandSparrow · 17/03/2020 22:27

Thanks guys. There was a message on the work whatsapp group from one of the union guys saying the company will be phoning people tomorrow. Some will keep working (much reduced staff I imagine to allow for safety measures), the rest will be offered 5 days holiday (not sure after that, back to work I guess, don't know if paid or not) and some will be on an ERTE. He's been there just over 2 years so not fijo or anything.

Not feeling that positive. Even with paro now allowed with an ERTE, it's a cut in income.

elQuintoConyo · 17/03/2020 22:28

Great Novia

I have a list of educational apps somewhere.... I don't have much else to share!

elQuintoConyo · 17/03/2020 22:34
