Anyone else in Spain and finding the jump in numbers from yesterday to today shocking? www.nytimes.com/interactive/2020/world/coronavirus-maps.html 700 to 1070 in one day.

I hadn't twigged about the not being able to go for a walk. Damn. We're surrounded by countryside and I was hoping to take the kids out once a day for a long walk, we wouldn't meet many people and would be metres away at all times. But I feel like I shouldn't do it now.
We'll go for a long walk tomorrow I think. There's a lot of social pressure, loads of quédateencasa memes on FB, whatsapp groups etc.

Hi. I’m concerned about some relatives who are returning to the UK from Spain. Are there roadblocks or anything on the way to the airport in Alicante? They have flights booked for Tuesday and I’m worried about how they will get there. They normally drive and would be coming from Denia. Any inside info would be good as they seem to have their fingers in their ears.

BirdandSparrow · 14/03/2020 22:40

The roads are normal I think, just emptier. At most they would be stopped and asked where they were going.

Deux · 14/03/2020 22:41

Thank you. I’ve suggested they have all documents ready for inspection but they think I’m being OTT. 🤦🏻‍♀️

Nameisthegame · 14/03/2020 22:45

@Deux Spanish love paperwork (in my opinion) always a good idea to have everything especially passports and tickets ready, they should also regularly check the news and the airline as things can change quickly.

@BirdandSparrow just best not to I guess hopefully by Monday things will be clearer.

All foreigners will be allowed to return to their home countries - no problems there.

meuca · 14/03/2020 23:02

Pedro Sánchez's wife now has coronavirus. The government's refusal to confine Madrid, like China confined Wuhan or Italy confined Lombardy, is ridiculous.

Nameisthegame · 14/03/2020 23:03

Just Incase people don’t know about The Who website www.who.int/emergencies/diseases/novel-coronavirus-2019/situation-reports/ it’s worth a read.

@meuca they were too slow with Madrid from the start I feel.Ive been watching Spain’s progress from when it was only 100 people.

Seems France is following suit on Monday too.

Agreed 100%. They created a situation where Madrileños have fled to every corner of the state, and the disease just keeps spreading...

Nameisthegame · 14/03/2020 23:13

It spread like wild fire, the selfishness of people. I’m sure the same thing happened in llieda there’s a lot of wealthy people who always leave to their second homes to avoid the heat.

@covetingthepreciousthings someone sent me a similar video earlier. You have to keep in mind this is in benidorm. It's a necessary measure because tourists are completely (and drunkenly) ignoring the situation.

MissMoiselle · 14/03/2020 23:34

@Deux I'm sure it wont be a problem. Just tell them to leave in good time in case there are some roadblocks/security checks. I assume most UK airlines (Jet2, EasyJet, BA, Ryanair) will start repatriation flights shortly, both for mainland Spain and the islands.

Ofitck · 15/03/2020 10:23

Does anybody know if correos and amazon will be delivering? I want to order some colouring pencils and workbooks for my kids...

Novia · 15/03/2020 10:56

@Ofitck - I believe so. I have 7 Amazon deliveries scheduled for tomorrow! 😂 The perils of too much time on my hands...!

BirdandSparrow · 15/03/2020 12:04

I've just received an amazon delivery today. I have another one coming between 21 and 24 March, for DS' birthday. Poor lad, had to cancel his birthday pizza evening with friends as it's before the lockdown ends.

PotsOfPebbles · 15/03/2020 12:13

Our DC had 2 parties to go to at the end of the month. They are obviously off now.

Looking out the window this morning there is not a space to be had. Cars are parked. Few on the road. Seen 1 jogger, 1 old man taking a stroll, and a guy walking his dogs. Apart from that the streets look like a ghost town.

We're due a shopping delivery tomorrow. I'll be amazed if we get a quarter of it tbh. If we get half of it then I'll be grateful with that.

Nameisthegame · 15/03/2020 12:47

I have a delivery from carrefour on Wednesday hopefully it comes as I need the cat litter and nappies it’s so heavy to carry. Don’t really need anything from onlin but might download plague inc game app. Only a euro lol.

PotsOfPebbles · 15/03/2020 13:22

I think things that aren't on the essential list will be delivered. I have some tonic on it. I have a few bottles of gin in from when they were on a special offer, if the tonic arrives I'll be happy Grin

Gin and tonic is very necessary! @PotsOfPebbles the nytimes which I’ve been watching is saying nearly 6k still but they might not count the recovered or deaths.
