I received a messgae on whatsapp from mercadona detailing their measures:
No deliveries
No corte de jamón
A limit of 500 products on sale
Limits on numbers coming in at one time
No freshly baked bread
No butcher's counter
No sushi
9 am to 8 pm opening
Distance of one metre at all times
Everyone has to wash their hands on entering.

Don't know if it's a fake or not. Haven't been to any food shops since Thursday. And can't get to Mercadona for the next week as I have no car. Unless DH gets told to telework.

BirdandSparrow · 15/03/2020 14:18

Sorry, I mean a whatsapp message purporting to be from someone who works at Mercadona, but it's being circulated on whatsapp. It could be fake.

PotsOfPebbles · 15/03/2020 14:28

Do you use your email to log in to mercadona? They would send an email wouldn't they?

PotsOfPebbles · 15/03/2020 14:31

I don't use mercadona, but call them.

Their website lists the number as 900 500 103

My MIL is 88 and is getting really stressed out. She doesn't get how viruses work and was stressing about using towels to dry her hands. She said someone had told her to dry her hands with kitchen roll otherwise she'd have to wash the towel after every use, but I told her that wasn't true if it was her towel at home where she's basically self isolating.
She threw out a load of kiwis cos she thought the sticker on them meant they came from china Hmm so I was trying to explain virus transmission. She's really not getting that she can't go for her daily walk either.

Valencia province update! I woke up really quite depressed today, realising the severity of it all.

Beach is now shut. Spanish (older) DH had to be shouted at to NOT go and find a bloody bar to have his coffee in. They are ALL shut anyway.

People are far less in the street but the old folk totally out in force with their bloody yappy dogs.

I'm fed up Hmm

I also see this lasting until after Easter.

BillieEilish · 15/03/2020 16:48

'During the war the bars were open'

Nameisthegame · 15/03/2020 16:58

I’m not suprised about the elderly They Will be a real problem. I’m sure there will be more news to come about people trying to leave.

My kid is already frustrated I didn’t realize I spent 2-6 hours outside everyday. I’m going to try and toilet train her.

Does anybody feel like people in the Uk have no clue what's coming? There a few people on FB talking about the thing about the over 70s having to stay in and so many of them are saying "oh, my dad would never do that, he'd get so depressed" and I find myself thinking, if it comes to it and you end up in lockdown, then nobody cares how much you hate it.
I mean, I know it's awful to contemplate, but they seem to have no clue how serious it is here and is going to be there, given what's happened here and in Italy and the fact that they aren't doing anyhting to stop it.

Nameisthegame · 15/03/2020 17:53

I just realized that my gas runs on gas bottles I’ve got three bottles so hopefully that will be enough but a little worried about that.

@BirdandSparrow totally agree my dd nan (ex side) was like I caught it last week but I was perfectly fine just a bit of a cough....I almost said something she’s like in her 80s and been in hospital this year for a heart attack, and cataract operations etc there’s no ay she had it and of course wasn’t tested.

My sister is being SO arrogant birds 'oh, you can come here and DD can share a bed with DS (2 and at nursery)*, 'just get away from it all' no thanks.

It wouldn't be getting away.

She seems to think UK is immune.

'Oh my Dad could never self isolate' ditto! Fucking irritating. Then the Brits will fly here this summer.

(I am British!Grin)

BirdandSparrow · 15/03/2020 18:00

We can get gas bottles at the petrol station. You'd need a car, but maybe you could do that? We always buy ours at the petrol station as I don't know the day they come round and when I tried to order one it didn't work.

BillieEilish · 15/03/2020 18:02

3 gas bottles would last me 6 months @Nameisthegame, at least!
You'll be fine with that!

Nameisthegame · 15/03/2020 18:03

No we get delivery no one drives. But considering how many people rely on them it will hopefully be considered essential services but two useually last a month so fingers crossed. My kid has eczema so I find washing her properly every three days is best for her (General flannels and wet wipes in between) and my mums not a big cleaner. So will probably cook more food in the electric oven and microwave and eek it out.

BillieEilish · 15/03/2020 18:03

I have been known to chase after the lorry delivering! Grin

BirdandSparrow · 15/03/2020 18:03

I mean it's not their fault they don't realise, their own government seems to think they're all immune or will just get immune without mass casualties, but they have no clue what lockdown means. I also think they don't realise that once the schools close it often escalates within hours. It was school closures here in Andalucía on Thursday afternoon, by Friday pm we were in a state of alert. By Saturday leaving the house was banned except in emergency.

Loads of people saying, "oh if the schools shut hopefully we'll get good weather and the little ones can go out to play" and I don't say anything but I'm thinking, you have no clue what's coming.

BillieEilish · 15/03/2020 18:04

I don't drive either.

BirdandSparrow · 15/03/2020 18:05

They'll make sure it's available, it counts as essential supplies. Even if the army ends up delivering it. Don't worry.

Nameisthegame · 15/03/2020 18:05

@BillieEilish your your right! My mum had some nightmare tenants before and they were using a gas bottle a week! They were having over 130 showers a month though and only using the hob.
