Disagreeing with the hysteria doesn’t make me rude OP.

Perhaps you’d like to point out where either me or sucking were rude?

Certainly neither of us told other posters to ‘fuck off’

The 'finite services' discussion is based on what please?

I haven't seen anywhere set what our emergency plan is limited to in terms of utilisation of numbers of alternative facilities and beds, as without this we can't know/ guess can we?

I wholeheartedly agree with keeping rational and informative.

The language used hasn't been so though.

I'm a bit confused about why it's OK to say things like children lack the receptors for coronavirus without even a link as to where you got the info, but ask people to post a disclaimer to non peer-reviewed research Confused

KeepOn

The problem is that it is impacted a lot by the rate of doubling.

If it doubles every 7 days (much slower than the current 2-3 days) and the current number of cases represents 100% of infections then extrapolation would have us reaching the end of the infections at a 1% population infection rate in about 11 weeks. But that doesn't curve to allow for slowing of rates, or the fact that the 3 week peak would happen before the total number of cases had been experienced. If it carried on at 3 days to double it would be much sooner. If the cases are contained and the delay is significant it could be much flatter. There are a lot of variables and in a situation like this where the total infection period is expected to be a matter of months, weeks makes significant difference, especially with reference to the ability of the hospital system to increase the available numbers of critical care beds.

Another here who appreciates Ofwarren’s posts. Please continue.

Morrisons today said it felt like Christmas but people were not 'panic buying' in the true sense of the word, rather they are doing a big shop rather than a shop every couple of days (90's style) loads of everything except hand sanitizer.
Watching the failure of basic hygiene in the supermarket always makes me want to 🤢 but today it was even more obvious. Especially the checkout woman licking her fingers to open bags.

usernameishistory · 08/03/2020 18:15

Use of emotive and inflammatory words like

hysteria
guff

I'm sure you must realise this?

A lot of people are worried, and language makes a difference to how people manage evolving situations such as this.

Theres a lot of effort gone into striking a balance on these threads, you can see it in so many posts and something many are grateful for when so anxious about themselves and loved ones.

I hate that licking bag thing @wouldshouldcould
They should provide them with that moist pad they have at the bank for counting money.

Reallybadidea

Necreous at 3 days to double (ie current rates) in how many weeks does the NHS become unable to cope with numbers needing intensive care?

I also suspect we are like Italy - lots of underlying cases that are undetected currently but going to start popping up as the virus progresses. People who are infected now with ‘just a cold /flu) but then realise they have Covid when it hits their lungs..

I believe we are Italy in 10-15 days time.

Israel is considering to require travelers from all countries to go into home quarantine for 14 days, a move that would effectively cut off tourism. A meeting will take place on Monday - Reuters
