@usernameishistory

Insulting other posters???

Did you miss the bit where ofwarren told me to "fuck off"?

ofwarren · 08/03/2020 17:51

inews.co.uk/news/education/gcse-and-a-level-exams-could-be-delayed-because-of-coronavirus-school-closures-2440917
As the number of confirmed coronavirus cases continues to rise drastically, England's qualifications regulator Ofqual and the exam boards are exploring contingencies that may be put in place if schools are shuttered before the start of exam season in May.

SistemaAddict · 08/03/2020 17:52

Ofwarren was quite restrained, I thought. No one has to be on these threads but some like to come over to disrupt the thread and have nothing of any note to add.

confusedandtired99 · 08/03/2020 17:52

Yes I did see that.

FlowersBrewCake @ofwarren I appreciate the information personally. I find it helpful thank you.

Jumpingintotheabyss · 08/03/2020 17:53

No one knows who voted for what on the these threads.

If anyone wants to to start a political covid thread they can, under coronavirus topics.

SistemaAddict · 08/03/2020 17:54

Ignore them. Must of us are here for support, and information. The numbers are growing quickly. Yes there will be the occasional false news but it doesn't detract from the factual news. No one here is going to base anything on a French diplomat or whatever having it not having COVID-19.

SistemaAddict · 08/03/2020 17:55

Having or not having*

I'm not sure what it is you are wanting to contribute on this thread, its not clear from your posts what it is you need from this thread.

Exactly bercows!

Bearbehind · 08/03/2020 17:57

My point is, what does stirring up panic achieve?

Something is clearly very wrong in Italy as many of the UK cases are linked to there.

But short of closing down international travel and locking everyone up, which is never going to happen, we all just need to manage as best we can and not get hysterical

Just over 100,000 have tested positive for CV globally and just over 60,000 are fine now - and the majority of the rest have only just been diagnosed so are going through the illness but, statistically, will be fine.

Took a look at UK figues.
Highest Local authorities
Hertfordshire: 13
Devon: 12
Kensington and Chelsea: 6

Most other places dont have that many confirmed cases most have between 1-5. Many have none.

A bit of balance and rational thought.

HerstoryInTheMaking · 08/03/2020 17:58

Sorry correction
Kensington and Chelsea; 8
Brighton and Hove: 7

goodgodlemon · 08/03/2020 17:59

Another lurker here just popping in to say thank you for all the updates. Very helpful and impressive amount of context too. Thanks !

KOKOagainandagain · 08/03/2020 17:59

@Nacreous - fantastic - although I have read that hospitalisation can last for 3 weeks which changes things for the next cohort.

So, given exponential growth (bracketing politics etc) - how long do your spreadsheets say the NHS has?

I understand that even if one is significantly overestimating infection rates and severity rates, that this only affects when healthcare institutions will become overwhelmed by a matter of weeks.

middleager · 08/03/2020 17:59

I told my husband about Italy and his reaction was really understated.

It was because this wasn't the UK. Even then I'm not sure he'd bat an eyelid FFS.

There's enough apathy/denial elsewhere, without having it in my home.

NK346f2849X127d8bca260 · 08/03/2020 18:01

A case at the sixth form college in the next town to us has been confirmed, loads of students in our area attend there.

MaxNormal · 08/03/2020 18:01

For fucks sake. Just seen Sadiq Khan's post of the big Women's Day rally in London, complete with him hugging people. Great example there!

usernameishistory · 08/03/2020 18:02

@Lynatic

Whitty confirmed unknown benefits of closing schools as children are not appearing vulnerable (my words, but see video in OP for his words on this).

Previous links have pointed to immature, developing lungs not having the necessary receptors which is keeping them from risk.

There is also a link in OP to asthma specialist advice.

Thank you for the link also.

bit of balance and rational thought

Perhaps you could show some then, as being rude doesn't fall into that, and not constructive.

@Lynatic
