Nr out of loo roll. Weekly shop today. Aldi, tesco asda x2 and sainsburys had none I mean not even the cheap stuff or fancy patternwd type ones.

Luckily wilko had some.

Couldn't even get pasta, prob have to just get in costco not to bulk panic buy but in hope they have some. I just don't get it there as storage here is crap.

Infant formula, ds can only tolerate one. I norm buy 4 at a time. Struggled to get that even

Now I knew about the handwash etc and always have that anyway.
Tesco cleaning aisle was also bare except the likes of oven cleaner, polish.. Everything antibac or likewise was gone!

I just want to shop normally.

Why do people tell us how many toilets they have? You don’t pee or poo more often or use greater amounts of loo roll just because you have three or four toilets.

Wolfff · 06/03/2020 23:51

Inner west London here. Plenty of loo roll in both local small Sainsbury and Tesco. Perhaps panic buyers go to large branches. No obvious empty shelves. Plenty of bread and fresh stuff available. People were just shopping normally as far as I could tell.

DH was only able to get Duchy rice though and not own brand basmati we normally get his way home tonight. Neither of us were able to get red lentils which is one of our staples (vegan/veggie family).

timetest · 06/03/2020 23:55

Kent here. Got everything apart from hand sanitiser at the local Tesco. No obvious panic buying here.

TypingError · 06/03/2020 23:55

Does no one use bogroll to blow their nose

I do. Cheaper than tissues.

AngelicaKauffman · 06/03/2020 23:56

You can be as cool and laidback about it as you want but the fact is that we’ve had a unique opportunity to watch this play out in other nations for weeks now and it’s stupid not to learn from them

So, if we ignore Wuhan because China's government is crazy, what can we learn that should encourage us to stockpile? Cos I haven't seen anything.

WhereverIMayRoam · 06/03/2020 23:58

Similar to WilmaLovesCake except we “over buy” as a matter of course just because both dh and I work full time and have two primary school dc so like to be organised and know we’re well stocked in case of illness, bad weather etc or even just a very busy period in work.

I’m all for not panic buying but I find people who don’t bother with any contingencies at all, even though they are financially and physically able to, just as odd as the stockpiled 6 months of food, built our own water purifier brigade Confused.

No bog roll in my local home bargains, big asda and little asda or pound land today. I only nipped in for a 4 pk of loo roll a bag of sugar and some dog treats as I was down to my last roll and dd2 knocked the sugar jar over last night.
There were none of the following : bog roll, bleach, dettol, zoflora (well there was some on the pet aisle but not on the cleaning aisle), anti bac wipes, tinned tuna, cook in sauces - curry/Tom etc, pasta/rice. No big sacks of dog food, no liquid soap and very low on bar soap, no bin bags and some twat filled his trolley with 147 bags of sugar and they let him. He cleared the shelf just as I reached to grab one he snatched it away then asked the manager who was on the aisle if there was any more! - there wasn't.
There were 3 aisles that were completely empty and 3 more that were 60% bare. I also noticed that toothpaste, San Pro and razors, cordial juice and crisps were very low. Lots of paracetamol though but no Calpol.
This is the northwest.

ForagingForFaerieGold · 07/03/2020 00:08

My local Asda was completely out of doughnuts today. Both jam AND custard.

It's madness I tell you, MADNESS!

Samtsirch · 07/03/2020 00:09

Brings back memories of the Brexit panic
🤣

theendoftheendoftheend · 07/03/2020 00:21

You want to live in my town, everyone thinks it's just a fancy flu, toilet roll a plenty round here

BlackeyedSusan · 07/03/2020 00:33

I bought two packs of 9 loo rolls recently. One for ex to put away as he had got down to using serviettes last week. One to top up my supply. There were loads in the shop a week or so ago.

Glad I bought earlier( last yr) when they were plentiful. Sometimes this prepping lark comes in useful. ( Buy a spare when you open a packet not when it is nearly finished, if you can afford it )

I think they will be back in stock soon as there are only so many loo rolls one can store before reaching saturation point, the 500 roll panickers won't need to buy any for a while.

Because I have got some in stock,I am not out there. Competing for loo roll with you. More chance you getting some then.

AutumnRose1 · 07/03/2020 00:40

Susan you bought loo roll for your ex?

TurquoiseDress · 07/03/2020 00:41

Utter madness I say!! Grin

BlackeyedSusan · 07/03/2020 00:51

Yep, the kids and I use the loo so prefer not to use serviettes. He buys milk bread for us when we need it.

DressingGownofDoom · 07/03/2020 01:31

'Why is everyone buying loo roll?
I understand why the little bottles of hand sanitizer are in short supply but why loo roll?'

Because everyone else is buying loo roll so there won't be any left if you don't get it when you see it Daffodil

Pixxie7 · 07/03/2020 02:30

Unable to get paracetamol anywhere.

turnandfacethenamechange · 07/03/2020 03:12

Unable to get paracetamol anywhere

That's really worrying. When DM was dying we had to buy them all the time, can't imagine how awful it would be having I search at a time like that.

LangSpartacusCleg · 07/03/2020 03:50

Have people confused the symptoms of corona virus with the symptoms of Norovirus?

Pixxie7 · 07/03/2020 03:51

If certain items were rationed it would help both panic buying and stocking up.

B1gbluehouse · 07/03/2020 07:05

Pixie it’s really easy to buy paracetamol online.

GrinConfusedConfused

Does he not know how to go shopping?

kateandme · 07/03/2020 07:14

this is going to be great for the Torys..they can now blame any unavailable items from their brexit fuck up down to us panic buying.

bellinisurge · 07/03/2020 07:16

"Fuck me! How much bog roll do YOU use each time you have a shit? "
Well , @summercat, I have MS so rather a lot. Would you like the details?
I'm a general prepper so I'm glad I always have plenty in. I don't need to bother panic buying.
Anyway, the supply chains aren't interrupted so the supermarkets can restock. Assuming that supermarket staff each deploy their forcefields and don't get affected in any way.

Double3xposure · 07/03/2020 07:18

Do not Use serviettes or tissues instead of loo roll. They will block the plumbing in your house.

Serviettes and tissues are designed to stay together when wet. Loo roll dissolves when wet.

I’m sure there’s a more scientific explanation than that but that’s how I understand it.
