Nr out of loo roll. Weekly shop today. Aldi, tesco asda x2 and sainsburys had none I mean not even the cheap stuff or fancy patternwd type ones.

Luckily wilko had some.

Couldn't even get pasta, prob have to just get in costco not to bulk panic buy but in hope they have some. I just don't get it there as storage here is crap.

Infant formula, ds can only tolerate one. I norm buy 4 at a time. Struggled to get that even

Now I knew about the handwash etc and always have that anyway.
Tesco cleaning aisle was also bare except the likes of oven cleaner, polish.. Everything antibac or likewise was gone!

I just want to shop normally.

It's a really unnecessary problem, people are being so selfish by panic buying

picklemewalnuts · 08/03/2020 08:00

@lljkk it's not that we need much generally, but one box of 16 tablets only lasts one person two days. You can only buy two boxes at a time. In the past when everyone has been ill at the same time, I haven't been able to buy it fast enough to keep up.
I have 4 adults. If we all get CV and take paracetamol for 10 days that's 320 paracetamol- 20 boxes. And another 20 boxes of ibuprofen if it's bad enough to take both.

That's 20 trips through the checkout. So I buy 2 boxes every time I shop.

If there were ‘an event’ now and future archaeologists excavated our collective ruins they’d jump to some very odd conclusions. Given the worrying Italian situation I’m kind of glad I still have brexit 1 (March last year?) olives capers pasta olive oil stocks largely untouched. Who could have foreseen being here, now. Really feeling for all in lockdown areas and beginning to wonder if/when we’ll follow suit.

hannabarbera · 08/03/2020 08:26

I tried to get Zoflora yesterday in Home Bargains. Nothing! Been using it for 20+ years so not new to buying it. Even soap wax running low.

It just shows that there are dirty fuckers out there who have decided to keep things clean all of the sudden.

bluete · 08/03/2020 08:40

it is annoying, I couldn't get Calpol yesterday

bellinisurge · 08/03/2020 08:46

Why didn't you have spare Calpol?
Why didn't you envisage the possibility a few weeks ago that you might need Calpol and get some then?

TheGreatWave · 08/03/2020 09:23

bell that's a little harsh, maybe the pp did have a bottle and it ran out. If my dd's were both ill even a large bottle potentially could only last just over 2 days (the 13 year old won't take tablets)

I do as a rule get a new one as I open the next, so always a bottle ahead, but I am also aware that it potentially could be used quickly.

TabbyMumz · 08/03/2020 09:26

I always had a spare calpol. But actually, why not just ask the Chemist for their own brand of baby liquid paracetamol. They all have a standard brand...usually with no sugar content, and cheaper than calpol.

Lockheart · 08/03/2020 09:41

@LucaFritz it has been quite well publicised - from reputable news sources - that certain hand sanitisers such as Cuticura do kill viruses. You'd only be oblivious to that if you hadn't been watching the news...

Mia1415 · 08/03/2020 09:58

In my local Tesco there was no soap, antibacterial cleaning wipes, pasta, toilet rolls, calpol or painkillers on Thursday night when I went in. People have gone crazy

HeronLanyon · 08/03/2020 10:09

I am soon shopping for a freezer bag, some lightbulbs, a cell battery, butter and rhubarb - nothing else. I am assuming I do not need to sharpen my elbows ?

Didthatreallyhappen2 · 08/03/2020 10:16

I couldn't get bleach (only ever use it for cleaning the kitchen sink - what on earth is everyone using it for???) but got everything else in a normal shop. But I did notice that there was no loo roll or pasta.

I did think that after all this has calmed down we're all going to have very clean houses ...

sunfloweryy · 08/03/2020 10:27

No toilet roll in my local Tesco tonight either. Luckily we bought a big pack last week but would’ve been a bit of a nightmare if we hadn’t. People are weird.

bellinisurge · 08/03/2020 10:34

@TheGreatWave , it's cold and flu season generally. And this has been on the horizon for at least a month. Not especially harsh. We all run out of stuff.

Lockheart · 08/03/2020 10:34

I need to go and get some chicken and fresh coriander for dinner, and some salad and bread for lunch - wonder what I will find?!

Dongdingdong · 08/03/2020 10:38

It's a really unnecessary problem, people are being so selfish by panic buying

Agree, it’s bloody selfish and a PITA. I’m more concerned about not being able to buy food and essentials than I am about the virus!

PotholeParadise · 08/03/2020 11:25

TheGreatWave

For the 13 year old, move on to soluble sachets of paracetamol. It'll be much cheaper, and they're not sold out!

www.boots.com/boots-pharmaceuticals-effervescent-powder-10-sachets-10049868

PotholeParadise · 08/03/2020 11:29

But probably not that brand from Boots, because each sachet is equal to two paracetamol tablets.

I have soluble sachets from Home Bargains in which each sachet is equal to one tablet, and so easier for dosing.

beanaseireann · 08/03/2020 11:34

I had no problem getting loo roll in M&S yesterday but I can't get hand sanitizer.

picklemewalnuts · 08/03/2020 11:51

@PotholeParadise I like the look of that! Never seen it before, but I'll get some in for sore throats.

HaddawayAndShite · 08/03/2020 11:55

Full shelves of everything in my local Lidl today. No problems with anything. I did head an argument behind me between a cashier and a couple buying enough toilet roll to wipe the arse of a small country though. People are morons.

itwasalovelydreamwhileitlasted · 08/03/2020 11:58

At my Sainsbury yesterday they were limiting AIR FRESHENER?! Who the fuck panic buys air fresheners?!

CathyorClaire · 08/03/2020 11:59

Lots of bog roll on ebay and not at profiteering prices. Ds scoffed at me for buying some so I told him he can buy it from me for 10p a sheet when there's none left in the country Grin Not so funny when he told me he'd wipe his arse on the bath towel instead Shock Grin

Oysterbabe · 08/03/2020 12:03

Just back from Lidl and the shelves were fully stocked. Plenty of loo roll, tinned foods, cleaning products, handwash and medication. Business as usual.
