I’ve not managed the whole thread tonight - began last night when it was only 4 pages and I haven’t caught up yet today. So this might not be a new thought! Sorry in anticipation. I just wanted to express that the delay phase is important, as important really as the containment phase. I just think all the folk not wanting to take an interest or take decent precautions won’t realise that DELAY is really important bc this is when we stop the virus spreading faster than national and regional resources can cope with. That delaying the onset of symptoms could mean the difference between life and death for some individuals. That’s not me scaremongering- I cant think how else to say it.

BigChocFrenzy · 07/03/2020 22:13

cologne4711 No, schools haven't been closed in general
and no individual schools has been closed permanently afaik

Just for 2 weeks iirc in one area where 1,000 people have been quarantined (after a carnival)
and in individual schools where a pupil or staff member has tested positive

Closing all schools is being kept under review, but is being avoided if possible for the same reasons as in the UK

ShanghaiDiva · 07/03/2020 22:14

@ChardonnaysPetDragon
Yes, we are back in the uk but as China residents the school still needs to collect the data for the authorities. At one stage it was collected on a daily basis, but now it’s just once per week.

We're up to 209 now. Where did the other 3 come from?

LarkDescending · 07/03/2020 22:25

Where did the other 3 come from?

Northern Ireland - according to the Telegraph.

BigChocFrenzy · 07/03/2020 22:26

"A friend of my mother's who is 97 nearly 98, said she'll carry on going out and if she gets it she gets it"

How much longer would she live if she stayed indoors for 3 / 6 / 12 months ?
She might well die anyway during that time

imo, it's your own business when you have no caring responsibilities for someone else

  • of course providing you are not risking infecting someone else

Even at 63, I've just modified my normal daily outings, not cut them out
I'll only stop if public health advice is for over 60s to do so - currently it is not.
The benefit of socialistion and exercise still outweighs the slight increase in risk of disease.

Cuddling57 · 07/03/2020 22:26

YY to the pp who said they have realised they touch their face all the time! I do too! I've pinned my fringe back tonight as I think half of it is my hair!

new thread here, stay well

unholy Totally agree. We are going to need to try and aim for a steady stream of people getting the virus now rather than hitting a peak, its inevitable now but it's just slowing it down enough for the system to cope. I think the NHS/government also really need to start managing peoples expectations. The threshold for admittance/seeing a GP/calling an ambulance is going to need to be higher, so that really unwell people can be cared for, people are going to have to cope with feeling really rubbish but not being dangerously unwell at home and we know that some people are better at doing that than others.

Freezingold · 07/03/2020 22:29

Even at 63, I've just modified my normal daily outings, not cut them out

That is sensible. Middle ground! But you have modified your life. So have I. I just don’t like it if anyone’s modifications are then subject to be called hysteria or belittled.

I don't use alcohol gel because I know I'd have the same problem

I just wash my hands with soap when I'm at the gym or a restaurant and then when I come home,
but only normal rate at home

PotholeParadise · 07/03/2020 22:48

Enid Body Shop Hemp hand cream. Put it on every night before bed, and a couple of times during the day. It works wonders.

Choux · 07/03/2020 22:49

The Argentina death had travelled to Paris which has not previously been mentioned much as a source.

According to hospital sources, the virus was detected once the patient had died. He had been hospitalized for more than five days and had other health complications: he suffered from diabetes, hypertension, chronic bronchitis and kidney failure.

Seemed like a pretty ill man already so good the hospital did proper investigations but he has likely infected several health care workers before he died.

It's like Italy, Washington State, Milton Keynes repeating itself once more.

@tangledyarn I hope you never experience gallstones or kidney stones. Its a bit more than just feeling a bit rubbish.

And they can be life threatening in some cases.

www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2365464/Man-41-died-gallstones-begging-999-operator-GP-ambulance-told-bath.html
I think its highly possible we will get deaths from other conditions due to Covid 19

HeIenaDove · 07/03/2020 23:23

Garnier Intensive 7 days Restoring Hand Cream is very good too.

tangledyarn · 07/03/2020 23:51

helena I dont know if you've purposefully misunderstood my post..i wasnt suggesting anyone shouldn't get care if they need it. I have a number of chronic illnesses myself. Quite the opposite I want people who NEED medical help to be able to get it so they can be safe and because time isn't being wasted on people that can manage things at home. I wasnt pointing the finger at anyone here, but as a nation we dont seem to always be very good at managing illnesses at home that can be managed as you'll know if you've ever sat in a&e on a Saturday night!

UnholyStramash · 07/03/2020 23:56

@HelenaDove - I don’t think that’s what @tangledyarn meant. I think as more is known about the disease it’ll be easier for health workers to work out what they need to do for people. But I agree people will need to look after themselves in some cases. I don’t doubt for a minute there’ll be situations where people don’t get the help they need when they need it - and it’ll be very scary for them and their loved ones, and some people will die when they might have survived if more resources had been available. I agree, Helena, gall bladder pain is horrific.

UnholyStramash · 08/03/2020 00:00

Today I bought some Aveena moisturiser which I find good for dry hands. I also have somAveena bath liquid which I’ll use instead of soap if I need to. I have skin problems - dermatitis tendency - which aren’t too bad just now - but I don’t want my skin to end up broken as that is an infection risk too.
