*These Italian figures are horrendous.

Last Sat 1200 had it. Now there are 6000.

At this rate there will be 30,000 next Sat and 150,000 the Sat after.*

These calculations must be why the Italian lockdowns have been increased and extended. No country could cope with that.

A small window of opportunity that other countries in Europe have is that we are 7-14 days behind Italy. Drastic action now could improve outcomes drastically.

Ps @bigchocfrenzy I found the graph!

Terrible news from China.
<a class="break-all" href="https://www.theguardian.com/world/2020/mar/07/china-coronavirus-quarantine-hotel-collapses-trapping-dozens" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Coronavirus quarantine hotel in China collapses, trapping dozens

Haven't seen it mentioned, apologies if it has been and I missed it.

ShanghaiDiva · 07/03/2020 21:11

I think already mentioned, but sad news nonetheless.

WaterSheep · 07/03/2020 21:11

Statistics can be like that, though. They can be skewed by unaccounted factors, or just simply not hold true in one time and place, while remaining true overall.

I appreciate that statistics can be skewed, but i've yet to see any statistics that back up his claims.

Jumpingintotheabyss · 07/03/2020 21:12

They first priority of a democratic government is to protect its own people and save lives.

Even the shackled eu countries understand this. By requisitioning masks (even though I think that's shit).

Our government first priority is to save lives.
I'd welcome measures to help us live and survive.
At this currently rate many people are actually going to loose their parents and gp over 60.

This generation who has paid into the system etc. They are going to be utterly shafted.
It's so hard to describe desperate situations to people who havant been in them. Which is why some parents of sick dc on the threads are so wound up.

People think systems you can trust click into place. Sorry folks they don't.
Don't get me wrong, I think the NHS is fantastic but it's totally infallible. It's totally hit and miss, there is no consistency.

I wouldn't want to have to use the NHS for any condition right now!

ofwarren
We’re booked to go to Venice soon can’t seem to find the lockdown info. Could you help please. Thank you

Wehttam · 07/03/2020 21:13

Very true bigchoc you have a point there.

Messages from friends in Italy just now confirming they are officially in the red zone, everything closed, can only leave for work and food until early April.

Which EU country will be next eith lockdowns? Germany or France?

BigChocFrenzy · 07/03/2020 21:13

Oh thanks for the UK bar chart, choux

MarshaBradyo · 07/03/2020 21:14

I wondered what the stats were and looking at Worldometer it seems an 85 to 80% chance of survival for over 80.

Jumpingintotheabyss · 07/03/2020 21:14

chous

I said Italy was in desperate measures and I was told off and that it wasn't.

Why why why do we have to wait for things to get that bad!
Why!

Usually people hold fire because we don't know if things will develop.
We know in this instance it develops!

What are we waiting for!!

WouldShouldCould · 07/03/2020 21:14

@Pppppickupapenguin that really scares me.

Regards 'the random internet person' discussion, I don't always trust 'experts' remember the 'expert' that said the MMR caused autism, or those that support/reject climate change, the meteorologist that didn't forecast the storm, those that said Iraq had WMD...

ShanghaiDiva · 07/03/2020 21:15

@chox
China has proved they can cope with figures much worse than that.

BigChocFrenzy · 07/03/2020 21:15

"They first priority of a democratic government is to protect its own people and save lives.
Even the shackled eu countries understand this."

😂😂

Jumpingintotheabyss · 07/03/2020 21:18

Wow so red zine people can only leave for work and food?.

Sounds like not much of a lock down? Work can mean anything.. Perhaps this is why they ate still struggling

ShanghaiDiva · 07/03/2020 21:19

@Jumpingintotheabyss
It’s the responsibility of any govt, democratic or otherwise, to protects its people.
I agree with you, we know how this will develop and we know what measures will need to be taken.

Jumpingintotheabyss · 07/03/2020 21:21

Would should could.

Also as mentioned earlier someone gave commentary on something. But then poster said.. They are not epidemiologist.

Experts can get narrow and blinkered in their expertism

FourTeaFallOut · 07/03/2020 21:22

You know, death is only one shit outcome, putting up with the damage done to your body for the rest of your life is another. 80% of 80 years olds might survive but how many will walk away from this illness without being harmed by it?

Wehttam · 07/03/2020 21:23

My thoughts too jumping I hope this changes in the coming days because otherwise it’s a pointless exercise. Their local hospital is completely overrun with cases. I think this quick development has understandably spooked them.

Coquohvan · 07/03/2020 21:23

Thank you Easter 👍

Cheeseismylife · 07/03/2020 21:23

I missed the chloroquine dicussion yesterday.
@GPwife2411
What is the advantage of having some in? I don't give a toss about hair loss if it potentially stops you getting hospitalised. And DH has virtually no hair left anywayGrin
Can I buy it OTC somewhere?

Jumpingintotheabyss · 07/03/2020 21:24

Shanghai, it should be the responsibility of any gov to protect it people but of course we know that's not the case outside democracy. And sometimes within it.

Jumpingintotheabyss · 07/03/2020 21:26

Yy four. Perhaps even worse...

Wehttam · 07/03/2020 21:26

four The public need more clarity on the effects of the illness if you survive a severe case. It may force people to stop and think with focus about their behaviours and habits to minimise their chances of catching or inadvertently transmitting the disease.

CrunchyCarrot · 07/03/2020 21:28

I was checking whether Uzbekistan had had any cases yet (not just idle curiosity, my DP and his mother are booked on a tour there in late May) as I'm a little worried about how things are progressing (ok let's face it, a LOT more worried seeing some of today's figures). I discovered Uzbekistan has been extremely proactive in clamping down on any travel into their country from infected countries, right from the onset of the outbreak in China.

www.intellinews.com/afc-uzbekistan-s-golden-hedge-in-a-time-of-coronavirus-177708/?source=uzbekistan

Clearly their economic situation is different from the UK's, but I have to admire their course of action so far.
