Checking in from Poland - we have very few cases, but they are going crazy over here. There was even talk of some ultra religious forming a human rosary around the border Confused.
Anyway the sanitarium inspectors and government are taking no chances - large gatherings have been band outlawed where I live all visitors have been prohibited from the building! If found to be flouting the rules you could be evicted!!! Personally I think it's rather extreme.

This did make me Grin

Sorry, I know none of this is funny and many of us are very worried, including me!

I think what Poland is doing sounds good tbh.

cz123 · 06/03/2020 22:15

@AbsentmindedWoman I laughed myself in disbelief !!

Babyfairy0923 · 06/03/2020 22:15

Why aren’t we hearing from anyone suffering at the moment who are getting better at home? I would have thought someone would be talking about it, are they too ill to communicate?!

Etinox · 06/03/2020 22:26

A large % of those testing positive are nonsymptomatic ie they have no symptoms. A massive proportion of those who die are very elderly with other conditions. But also a massive proportion of those who get it recover. So an 85+ yo with copd/ diabetes is much more likely to recover than die from it.
It’s the potential sheer scale which makes it so frightening.

Quartz2208 · 06/03/2020 22:26

because if you read accounts from Italy no one wants the stigma at the moment or people avoiding them

cz123 · 06/03/2020 22:30

@Babyfairy0923 because believe or not - not everyone's life revolves around Mumsnet. Some people like to watch Netflix when they are ill. joke Grin

Why on earth would someone speak out? On top of feeling ill they would have the DailyMail at their front door asking them how they feel and where they thought they were infected! If I were infected, I wouldn't be speaking out!

usernameishistory · 06/03/2020 22:34

welcome to the thread.

Many are at home ill, like me, and not tested so can't tell you.

Its difficult to know if any stories of having cv19 are.

Lots are at home feeling ill with no idea if it's CV19

Thanks for the new fred, usernameishistory

From previous thread:

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2020/03/06/elderly-people-warned-stay-indoors-avoid-infection-second-coronavirus/

"Elderly people will be warned to stay at home as the coronavirus crisis worsens, with advice to visit relatives now before "social distancing" policies are introduced.

Next week, ministers are expected to announce that Britain has reached the point where all hope of stopping an epidemic has been lost.

It is feared that the outbreak could follow the pattern seen in other European countries."

usernameishistory · 06/03/2020 22:35

genuine ...that should have said. Whether any stories are genuine.

BridgetJonesDaiquiri · 06/03/2020 22:49

Any clue what the "social distancing" policies they refer to in the Telegraph would entail?

LarkDescending · 06/03/2020 22:58

Social distancing is anything that reduces the mingling of people - e.g.:

School closures
Working from home
Reducing public transport use
Preventing gatherings at e.g. sports and other venues

Re the last, it has just been said on Newsnight that a meeting is to be held at Downing St between civil servants, broadcasters, the FA, the organisers of the Six Nations and others to discuss the possibility of holding matches behind closed doors with only television audiences.

@Dylaninthemovies1 they are probably slighter further ahead of us in their outbreak, generally all countries following exactly the same stages.

Awkward1 · 06/03/2020 23:10

Could someone make the link clicky on the close school petition thread please?I

I do believe many in uk cannot do maths from their reaction.
Also possible they are suppressing some info to avoid panic.
60-80% catching it of our population. Even if that did only kill 1% it would be huge numbers.
AND it's not 1% Italy is showing us that.
It's not fly because so many need o2 or ventilation. Which they are then on for a long time. So then the health care system reaches capacity.

Furfockssake · 06/03/2020 23:15

Let's all embrace 'social distancing' from threads about coronavirus. Go do something useful or interesting - read a book, go for a walk .. stop watching TV, stop looking at your phone - it really isnt doing any good. Come back in 6 -12 months and see how ridiculous you all sound..

LarkDescending · 06/03/2020 23:16

21 people on the Grand Princess cruise ship have tested positive.

link here

Furfockssake · 06/03/2020 23:17

@PaulGalico unless you're actually the parent of everyone on the thread I think we're all pretty much ok choosing how we spend our time. thanks anyway though, sure its well intentioned.

Overthegardenfence · 06/03/2020 23:18

Here is the link for the PHE website showing numbers in each local authority [https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/coronavirus-covid-19-number-of-cases-in-england/coronavirus-covid-19-number-of-cases-in-england]

LarkDescending · 06/03/2020 23:19

Re the Grand Princess people - of the 21 confirmed, 19 are crew and 2 are passengers.

PaulGalico · 06/03/2020 23:24

Absolutely fine - if you want to spend your time debating coronavirus - but you do realise how ridiculous you all sound?

Overthegardenfence · 06/03/2020 23:24

Sorry I can’t get the clicky link to work

ginandnappies · 06/03/2020 23:27

People don't want to speak out because they will have the journalists at their door! I know someone who is tested positive and a certain rag of a paper has been trying to dig up all sorts on them it's utterly disgusting.

Defenbaker · 06/03/2020 23:29

@PaulGalico I really appreciate these threads, but am not glued to them 24/7. I find I have plenty of time to get on with my life, as well as dipping into these threads, which are full of useful information and balanced views, for the most part. So, I will continue popping back, for regular updates.
