Another Germany update from me: the health ministry advises avoiding all “non-essential” travel to Northern Italy, but also within the country, to North-Rhein Westfalia NRW. Inpressed and alarmed at the seriousness of the spread in the area where I live, serious enough for the gvt. to try and reduce infection within the country. NRW is a business and industry heavy area, also the most populous, also (me included) with lots of people from other countries.

stella1know · 06/03/2020 23:30

Impressed by the decisive action but alrmed by the spread, obviously.

AbsentmindedWoman · 06/03/2020 23:31

@PaulGalico you’d do well to examine your own need to stop other people talking about it.

Smacks of deep anxiety driving you to denial about the potential this virus has, and so to ridicule others who are simply having a conversation to make yourself feel better.

LarkDescending · 06/03/2020 23:33

I also know someone suffering from the virus who is being harassed by the press.

The man who sadly died in Milton Keynes had recently returned from a Caribbean cruise, and his family have expressed concerns that he was only diagnosed and isolated very shortly before his death.

Anyone else veering between being scared shitless and its all a big con?

Furfockssake · 06/03/2020 23:35

@PaulGalico I'm sure you've got something better to do than sit on a thread you're not interested in, throwing insults at people who don't care?

Rockylove · 06/03/2020 23:40

Thats not leeds uni by any chance? Heard rumours about it getting to there!

peachgreen · 06/03/2020 23:40

@paulgalico I sincerely hope you're right and if you are I will happily admit to it in 6 months time.

SisterAgatha · 06/03/2020 23:46

I just want to get on and enjoy social distancing tbh. I am a natural introvert. Now is my time!

OhMargo · 06/03/2020 23:48

Re the "social distancing", isn't Crufts and Cheltenham going ahead?

I suppose social distancing only applies when everyone returns home from large events like these.

furrytoebean · 06/03/2020 23:57

Good for you.
I'm really looking forward to watching the successful business that I've built up from the ground through blood sweat and tears and have finally started to see make me a decent profit after years of working for minimum wage collapse due to lack of customers.
It'll be so fun to have to pay all my staff and suppliers and refund my customers who've paid in advance.

Yippee my time has come.

brainfogg · 06/03/2020 23:59

@Originalyellowbelly I know exactly what you mean! I’m having some really weird feelings about this, going from total all out panic as you say and then having these really weird thoughts where I can’t imagine that this virus is even real? Even though I know it is. What’s all that about?!

LadyMarathonRunner · 07/03/2020 00:00

One thinks in London town they will soon be selling Tshirts saying "I caught coronavirus and all I got was this lousy tshirt".

Furfockssake · 07/03/2020 00:01

@brainfogg same here. moments of feeling anxious, then moments feeling like I've been sucked into a massive hoax. Mostly just watching the news and seeing how it's unfolding in the way the experts predicted though.

SisterAgatha · 07/03/2020 00:03

That’s not my fault furrytoebean, don’t be pissed at me for having different circumstances. I can enjoy what I like, thank you Smile

middleager · 07/03/2020 00:04

Re the "social distancing", isn't Crufts and Cheltenham going ahead?

Yup, with people from all over the world flying into my local airport.
Oh and Cheltenham's only up the road too!

Originalyellowbelly · 07/03/2020 00:07

brainfogg glad it's not just me. It worries me the amount of people we hear of that's dying but then I think is this just a normal amount who would die of flu anyway or are we just being panicked for some other reason? Half of my family are taking this seriously and half are laughing it off. I'm just going to keep drinking wine and hope it all goes away!

tryingtoprep · 07/03/2020 00:10

@LarkDescending That poor man and his poor family. Worrying. I'm sure I've read early treatment increases chances of survival.

Thank you OP for the new thread. I'm the same as others here. Having moments of thinking or pretending it's not real and then jolting back to horrible reality. I wish it would go away and we could restart 2020.

SisterAgatha · 07/03/2020 00:10

It’s not the normal amount who would die of flu anyway. It will be the amount of people who die of flu anyway PLUS the people who are usually protected against flu by the vaccine.

Originalyellowbelly · 07/03/2020 00:15

We've had Boris lying about building new hospitals, Hancock lying about supermarkets talking to government about supplies, can we really trust them to tell the truth about this virus?

brainfogg · 07/03/2020 00:16

@Furfockssake yes totally! Like a massive hoax that’s exactly how it feels sometimes, it seems to get worse when I read comments from people asking why we’re not hearing from the survivors. Just makes me feel like it’s so surreal.

@Originalyellowbelly no it’s definitely not just you, the closest thing I can compare it to is an episode of Black Mirror. Drinking wine is a good plan 😄

LadyMarathonRunner · 07/03/2020 00:20

Will orgies be cancelled do you think?

The Guardian has summarised Trump’s latest press outing (at the CDC) as follows:

To recap what just happened at this Trump CDC press conference on coronavirus:

The president wore his re-election campaign hat and interrupted the event to ask a Fox News reporter if his town hall on the network had good ratings.

He attacked CNN.

He called the governor of Washington state, the epicenter of a major outbreak, a “snake” and “not a good governor”, and said he disagreed with his own vice president saying nice things about the governor while visiting the state.

Trump said he has not considered cancelling his rallies and is not worried about risks.

He made false and exaggerated claims about the availability of coronavirus tests, ignoring the reality that his vice-president has acknowledged, which is that there is a shortage among US healthcare providers right now.

He said he would prefer if people on the Grand Princess cruise remained on the ship so that US numbers would not go up.

He gloated about his “natural ability” to understand the epidemic.
