Thanks for the new thread

SistemaAddict · 01/03/2020 22:54

I dread to think of what the numbers will be like tomorrow.

T0tallyFuckedUpFamily · 01/03/2020 22:55

I’m worried. I home board dogs so meet people that have traveled from abroad, every single day. Many of them are coming from the affected countries. I can’t afford to close down the business, but I’m worried for my vulnerable child.

EmmaBridgewater20 · 01/03/2020 22:56

So it looks like most of the new cases had travelled to or had direct contact with people had travelled to Italy or Iran. But the government are still allowing flights in and out!?! I’ve mentioned this on previous threads but how the hell does this work as a containment strategy!!!

duffeldaisy · 01/03/2020 22:56

Are they still saying close contact is within 2m for at least 15mins?

I heard that, but surely a full 15 mins isn’t necessary if the ill person sneezes or coughs in the first few seconds?

Thisisworsethananticpated · 01/03/2020 22:59

Totally

It’s manageable if you keep them and your child apart , no contact and disinfect after their visit

ofwarren · 01/03/2020 22:59

NEW: Berlin reports first case of coronavirus t.co/eUoE2b20hL

Cismyfatarse1 · 01/03/2020 23:00

I too am very close to the Scottish case. Plus, a teacher so concerned about spread via kids.

Plantherd · 01/03/2020 23:00

Has anyone stopped going to their gym or gym classes?..

Ive still been going (only to classes and meticulous with hand washing but thinking again about continuing)

ofwarren · 01/03/2020 23:02

I'm not going the gym any more. I read that gym equipment is a magnet for germs. I don't want to be near all the people breathing heavily either.

Wehttam · 01/03/2020 23:02

I said in thread 8 Italy was massively infected. It has to be because nearly every person coming back from there seems to have brought it home with them!

Ciwirocks · 01/03/2020 23:03

I have read a report somewhere (but I have read so much I can’t remember where I read it now) that the majority of cases were passed on in China by live in contacts so quite close really. There are obviously exceptions to the rule in the cases where no obvious source has been found but it’s certainly not a guarantee that if you cross paths with someone you will get it.

Callimanco · 01/03/2020 23:03

The who report from China mentions that those interviewed for the report were unable to identify any cases where children had infected adults, cismyfatarse. I am finding that reassuring atm.

Wehttam · 01/03/2020 23:04

My gym last week installed a hand wipe dispenser. Clean your own machine. 😷

NillyFrickers · 01/03/2020 23:04

Can someone give me a reasonable source for information on this virus? One that they know is accurate? I'm incredibly worried now but dont know if I need to be?

Turkey have started testing people for temperatures on flights arriving and if your temperature is high or you feel unwell then they are testing you further apparently with set up areas within the airports, with medical machinery. They are also asking you to fill out forms before boarding all to do with the virus. This is what I've been told by someone who's just flown into Antalya from UK.
If this is true then why aren't the uk doing this, at least to the flights that are coming from the affected areas? Or why aren't they cancelling the flights?

I have anxiety issues anyway, but now its gettin worse and I cant sleep properly. I keep reading conflicting information.

EmmaBridgewater20 · 01/03/2020 23:04

@Wehttam I just can’t believe we’re still allowing flights in from there and Iran. Surely stopping those would now be the first step in the containment strategy!

EmmaBridgewater20 · 01/03/2020 23:06

@Plantherd no, I’ve decided not. I only go and run don’t have time for eve classes any more, will just do on my way home from wk outside now it’s getting lighter on an eve.

Wehttam · 01/03/2020 23:07

If you have anxiety these threads will do you no good unfortunately. There is no definitive source, but my suggestion is stick to the UK news only.

saltinesandcoffeecups · 01/03/2020 23:08

@NillyFrickers stick to sources like WHO, CDC, UN, gov’t departments, and reputable news sources. Avoid FB, Twitter, and other sources like the plague (pun intended)

Wehttam · 01/03/2020 23:11

Emma would it work though? The half term skiers are back and mingling already. The ones they mingled with have now mingled too.

We have those trade deals to make too remember...

YouAreTheEggManIAmTheWalrus · 01/03/2020 23:12

We live in a UK world heritage site, way more national/international tourists than locals here at any given time. DS is asthmatic, gets public transport to school, 45 mins each way. There’s so many of his friends ill with temperatures etc and many have been away over hols. One girl in his class being tested tomorrow if someone she was in contact with tests positive.
He’s year 11, has watched far too many Wuhan youtube vids all weekend and is subsequently really starting to get scared. I must admit, right now I’m tempted to say stay home, revise (ill be home to make sure this happens!) and wait and see how the next couple of days pan out. It’s not a dictatorship, we should be able to make the call ourselves if the risks outweigh the benefits.

babypossum · 01/03/2020 23:12

Is it utterly bonkers to ask whether anybody knows if it's safe to continue swimming in public pools? I've read conflicting information. The gym I understand unless you can wipe the equipment down and it's quiet?

Newjez · 01/03/2020 23:13

I have a feeling next week is going to be a game changer.

Many countries seem to be getting into the triple figures.

Effects on economic markets are becoming more clear.

The USA finally seems to be testing, and it looks like they have dropped the ball.

If things keep escalating, I really don't see how who can't call this a pandemic this time next week.

T0tallyFuckedUpFamily · 01/03/2020 23:13

It’s manageable if you keep them and your child apart , no contact and disinfect after their visit

I’ve started keeping my child away from the visitors, but they tend to spend longer chatting now, because their travel has made covid19 a big topic of discussion. I’m an awful chatter box, but I need to get into the habit of handing the pup over and getting them to leave. I’ve lost count of the number of clients that turn up at mine with flu, so I’ve no doubt someone will arrive with an ‘unexplained’ bug, in order to collect their dog.

Does anyone know if spraying an antibacterial cleaning spray into the air like an air freshener, after a possibly infected person leaves, is of any benefit? 😷
