Yes, all evidence points to children not really being affected. No children have died.

WitchDoc · 01/03/2020 18:56

@tud41

The WHO isn't ready to call Covid-19 a pandemic.

I don't trust a word they say

MargotB7 · 01/03/2020 18:58

There are a lot of people not taking it seriously. Someone on my Facebook has just announced they have booked a holiday abroad today. Surely you'd just save the money and wait and see.

The only thing we've got booked is to see a famous comedian next month. I'm thinking if it does get bad then they will cancel anyway. They are not going to want to be exposed.

LarkDescending · 01/03/2020 18:58

Just had an interesting chat with my relative who is a GP in one of the 100 practices conducting broad-based testing. Apparently there is lots more in the pipeline.

I also learned the identity of one of the cases announced today - someone we know. Not very unwell with it, but being chased for comment by members of the press who have received leaked information.

screamer1 · 01/03/2020 18:58

Thank you @NotJustACigar i am worried. I'm trying to keep things in perspective, but am starting to worry a lot now. It's all I've been thinking of all weekend.

Particularly as there seems to be such a gulf between those who are concerned and those who seek to think it's business as usual.

HairyFloppins · 01/03/2020 18:59

@NebbiaZanzare Thanks I really appreciate you checking for me.

tinysnickersaremyfavourite · 01/03/2020 18:59

We are supposed to be going to France at Easter, then onwards to another eu country whuch currently has no cases.
I think it is not likely to happen.
My OH says I am being ridiculous.

usernameishistory · 01/03/2020 18:59

Your gp relative is incredibly indiscreet and broken patient confidentiality surely???

HeIenaDove · 01/03/2020 18:59

Are these schools doing proper deep cleans or is it cleaners with a pair of Marigolds as referred to on a previous thread.

DonkeyKong2019 · 01/03/2020 19:00

@screamer1 Yes I have noticed it tends to be either hysterical or complete denial

ofwarren · 01/03/2020 19:00

Iceland reports 2nd case of coronavirus; government says everyone returning from Italy should self-quarantine for 14 days t.co/eUoE2b20hL

Random18 · 01/03/2020 19:02

Sassenach I got the impression on C4 news that the Scottish govt would be involved in the Cobra meetings, at least in some shape and form. I imagine the WELSH assembly and NI assemblies too.

I think whatever comes out of COBRA tomorrow or in future will apply to the whole of the UK.

zen1 · 01/03/2020 19:03

I think it’s worrying that according to Worldometers, among the 1,577 active casesin Italy, 779 (49%) are hospitalised. If we have an epidemic in this country, we just don’t have the infrastructure to cope with 50% of infected people being admitted to hospital. I know they don’t count all those people as being in a ‘serious’ condition, but nevertheless, for them to need hospital treatment in the first place, it must be more than a ‘mild’ illness.

georgedawes · 01/03/2020 19:05

@LarkDescending do you mean lots more +ve tests in the pipeline?

LarkDescending · 01/03/2020 19:06

usernameishistory is that to me? My GP relative has told me nothing about any identifiable patient, other than to say there is more virus in the pipeline.

AvocadoOwl · 01/03/2020 19:07

Lots more positive results in the pipeline?

HeIenaDove · 01/03/2020 19:07

There are more over 60s still working despite having health conditions as state pension age moved up so more of them using public transport.

Random18 · 01/03/2020 19:07

Do we know if all the UK cases are still being hospitalised? And is it still in the specialist hopsitals?

FourTeaFallOut · 01/03/2020 19:07

Google say the plague killed 25 million, which was fucking heaps of the population at the time.

But if you take 1% of 60% of 7.5 billion, it's a lot more.

So
@DailyMailUK
advises over 60s to avoid crowds but forgets that most of us, having been forced to work until we're 66, have no choice but to continue going out to work...!

Bergamo is Ryanair’s (so assume others’) “Milan” airport.

Dr. Campbell attested the higher death rate in Iran partly to not having the drugs to treat and also treating all pneumonia with corticosteroids which he said was inappropriate and can make things worse. Also as others have said, ageing Italian population.

User1775564212 · 01/03/2020 19:11

Is anyone keeping there DC off school tomorrow?

FourTeaFallOut · 01/03/2020 19:11

Sorry, I didn't mean to be dramatic, I just considered the size of the global population and a bit staggered by how it shifts seemingly small figures.

usernameishistory · 01/03/2020 19:12

Ah, so, separately you learnt of the indentity of one of the cases. I see. That wasnt clear Lark. It could be read that was as a result of your talk with GP relative.

Separately, its sad for the sufferer to be pursued this way when they must be so worried.

Random18 · 01/03/2020 19:13

user no my DC will go to school as normal tomorrow
