I’m getting a bit worried too.

Ds has autism and isn’t very good (understatement) at hygiene.

MrsStrangerThing · 01/03/2020 08:51

It really isn't as simple as moving people around; pharmacists cannot work as GPs, a dermatologist cannot overnight become an ICU consultant after 'learning a few skills'. This is like suggesting the school secretary should take over as principal.

WaterSheep · 01/03/2020 08:52

Placemarking, and wondering what Matt Hancock will be discussing this morning.

From previous thread - Re commuting in south east. My first thought with Haslemere case was, selfishly, does he commute and has he been on my/DH's train? Then developed that thought slightly to - trains were half empty over half term, loads of people were away and (given the demographic) high chance of a lot of them skiing in affected areas. As PP said, these trains are full, if you are next to someone coughing/sneezing you are pretty much stuck. If there are more cases over the next day or so in Haslemere, I will be less keen to go in to work. We have been looking at plans for wfh and it's entirely possible for me and my team, so that will be my main focus tomorrow to make sure we are as ready as I think we are.

I have hypertension. They keep saying that means I'm high risk but I can't find any information as to why. Does anyone have any further information on this.

I have one question - Dr John Campbell is apparently an A&E nurse so is he or isn't he an actual doctor? Or does he have a doctorate?

What time is Matt Hancock on Sky?

Reallybadidea · 01/03/2020 08:54

I've seen Dr. John Campbell mentioned a few times on these threads. Is he a medical doctor, does anyone know? What's his area of expertise?

KenAdams · 01/03/2020 08:54

What time is Matt Hancock on please?

John Campbell is a retired nurse.

WaterSheep · 01/03/2020 08:56

Dr John Campbell is a retired nurse teacher and A and E nurse, who also does some teaching in Asia and Africa.

Wehttam · 01/03/2020 08:57

Morning everyone. So it wasn’t a nightmare after all.

Great.

millerjane · 01/03/2020 08:57

I'm only really concerned for my mother. She's currently a locum radiographer working in a Surrey hospital (as a mammographer but does work in a&e when needed). Years of xraying has really impacted her immune system - she's always fighting/recovering from a cold during Winter. Plus she is diabetic. People diminishing the situation are quite privileged imo.

I'm young, fit and healthy. I have very little concern for myself.

AvocadoOwl · 01/03/2020 08:59

This morning I'm hoping that as many existing cases as possible are identified this weekend so that tomorrow's COBRA meeting attendees are forced into some serious action. If they announce half arsed lip-servicey measures after the meeting I'll be very concerned.

The plan to rope retired doctors in is outrageous.

WaterSheep · 01/03/2020 09:00

Any guesses on how many cases will be announced at 2pm today?

I'm thinking 31.

ofwarren · 01/03/2020 09:00

The UK is a world leader in preparing for and managing diseases like #coronavirus.

Today, @MattHancock sets out an enhanced government approach to pandemic preparation.

Here's an outline of the measures we're putting in place 🔽 t.co/h6DrySmr95

TreesSandSea · 01/03/2020 09:00

He’s just been on.

Said nothing useful.

Wash your hands more in airports.

Sing Happy Birthday while you wash your hands.

Fiddling while Rome burns.

Fuckwits.

WaterSheep · 01/03/2020 09:01

I should clarify that's 31 total, not 31 new cases. Grin

Reallybadidea · 01/03/2020 09:02

Thanks MrsStrangerThing and WaterSheep. And according to Google his PhD is in nurse education.

ClashCityRocker · 01/03/2020 09:03

Haven't the papers usually reported the confirmed cases before the announcement?

ofwarren · 01/03/2020 09:03

I'm guessing another 5 today @watersheep

TreesSandSea · 01/03/2020 09:03

I men hand washing IS helpful. So that’s good I suppose.

“Coronavirus will be a standing agenda item on weekly meetings” 😂😂😂

But calling this a battle plan - FFS

UnitDare · 01/03/2020 09:04

My Mum is high risk (in her 70s, smokes, always has a cough). She is due to fly to see family in Spain this week and all of a sudden I have cold feet for her. I know there are fewer infections there but she'll be using the airport, buses etc whereas if she stays home she just won't be in contact with as many people. I really don't know whether to try to get her to cancel.

ofwarren · 01/03/2020 09:04

They didn't yesterday clash we are only being told at 2pm now
