When there was the big outbreak of foot and mouth disease a few years ago, schools in affected areas didn’t do SATs. Don’t know what happened with GCSEs and ALevels.

SansaSnark · 01/03/2020 15:58

@BunsyGirl

I think the biggest thing to consider with going on holiday is how would you cope if you got stuck in the country (under quarantine or otherwise) and how would your travel insurance cover you?

Also, how would you cope if you had to take 2 weeks off on return to self isolate. Would you be ok financially?

I'd also have a different view if the holiday was to East/SE Asia or Northern Italy (or Iran, I guess).

Our supermarket was rammed today, queues out the door and loads of stuff out of stock.

WingingItSince1973 · 01/03/2020 15:58

@catsandlavender my daughter has been in Bristol all week visiting friends. She lived in Bath for 6 years until last month. She went back for a visit. She phoned me Friday to say she feels unwell. What are the chances though? Trying to keep things in perspective xxx

YouAreTheEggManIAmTheWalrus · 01/03/2020 15:58

@AvocadoOwl thank you, hopefully they will roll that out to more than 100 practices sooner rather than later.

usernameishistory · 01/03/2020 16:01

Your call Bunsy. Its you taking the risk of being stuck in a foreign country if there's an outbreak there, or.any of you get ill abroad

SansaSnark · 01/03/2020 16:02

The chances of any individual having Coronavirus in the UK is still very low. Most cases are still people who've been to an affected area recently.

They're contact tracing 96 people who the Bristol man had contact with.

ofwarren · 01/03/2020 16:04

4th positive case of #coronavirus in #mexico is a 20-year-old woman living in Coahuila, who traveled to #Milan, #Italy

usernameishistory · 01/03/2020 16:08

Thank you for your invaluable posts @ofwarren

If you are 60+ or if you have an underlying condition like:
-cardiovascular disease
-respiratory condition
-diabetes
you have a higher risk of developing severe #COVID19. ^ You may wish to avoid crowded areas or places where you might interact with people who are sick"-@DrTedros
WHO^

So, these people who are sick @DrTedrosWHO
Where are they? They're not in schools, or on holiday, or anywhere according to so many.

It seems wise advice but falls down when it comes to deciding exactly where the sick people are, of there are any.

BunsyGirl · 01/03/2020 16:08

@SansaSnark

We would be fine self isolating as I can work from home - my firm remind us of the agile working policy every time they send out a Coronavirus update. DH is self employed and works almost entirely from home anyway. However, it’s the being quarantined in a hotel room that bothers me. We were stuck in a hotel room for five days when DS2 developed Chickenpox in Portugal. It was awful. We are meant to be going to Abu Dhabi so not high risk (at the moment) and obviously has great medical facilities.

Misandei · 01/03/2020 16:09

1case of Corona in Hertfordshire.

usernameishistory · 01/03/2020 16:10

Sansa. FHE changed the status to moderate from low

penguinsonaslide · 01/03/2020 16:11

Personally I would not be going on a holiday abroad right now due to the risk of being quarantined. Just wouldn't be worth it for me.

Ephe17 · 01/03/2020 16:11

@Bunsey
We have a family holiday booked for four weeks time. I don’t want to go (DH is on the fence) but, if we cancel, that’s £6.5k gone that we won’t get back.
We have a holiday booked for Easter. I'm not going but not canceling either. Travel restrictions could mean holidays are are cancelled by airlines or tour operators which could mean a full refund.

usernameishistory · 01/03/2020 16:11

Noone can tell you what to do Bunsy. Its for you and your family to weigh up any risks and consequences for you all.

WitchDoc · 01/03/2020 16:12

Spain now at 76 cases.

Last Sunday there were 0 cases on the mainland.

Buckle up, Britain

Jrobhatch29 · 01/03/2020 16:12

@NemophilistRebel this is exactly my worry. Im worried about me and the baby contracting it whilst in hospital too. I actually started a thread about it but everyone just told me i was stupid basically. I already have health anxiety so this is a nightmare for me but totally amplified by being pregnant x

Emptywallet · 01/03/2020 16:13

SansaSnark you would think so but the trouble its a small school with a lots of siblings in so they’d have to exclude them too.

We’re lucky in that I work from home so I can keep my sons here but I appreciate for other families that’s difficult.

My mother is in a nursing home so if the lads went back this week I wouldn’t want to go up and see her just incase we passed it on, it would kill her.

ofwarren · 01/03/2020 16:13

6 new cases of #coronavirus in #iraq— two in Baghdad and four in Sulaimaniya, it is reported that they returned from #Iran a few days ago

PotholeParadise · 01/03/2020 16:15

Would your head be sympathetic if you explained why you were keeping your DC off? They don't have to fine.

I don't know. I am monitoring the local news where I was, and after the next update this evening on whether schools there are closing, I think I'm going to email the head with that information, and put the decision on them!

WaterSheep · 01/03/2020 16:15

One of the people who has tested positive for the virus was a resident of Bradford who had travelled to Italy. While two others are from Leeds and had travelled to Iran.

@SansaSnark I like your school policies as well - that’s exactly what’s needed
