Who has said on here, fuck your holiday, or fuck your qualifications.

Actually, I said upthread "fuck people's holidays".

I meant it in generic terms, it wasn't an attack on a particular poster.

mrsbyers · 01/03/2020 15:34

Being pregnant doesn’t make you any more or less at risk ? That’s probably why

usernameishistory · 01/03/2020 15:34

janemarpling

This would also be based around schools general grades achieved ovee the years and quality of work graded through the year, not just some pass plucked out of the air for one year, as any veering from past performance of school or pupil would be quickly suspect.

Allowances are routinely applied every year for extenuating circumstances, and remarks.

cologne4711 · 01/03/2020 15:34

I think we can live without year 6 SATS TBH. And that something that could definitely be replaced with a teacher assessment, no need to do an actual test.

SansaSnark · 01/03/2020 15:34

@Anothernamechange2020 Yeah, no I think the current government ideas are terrible too. Also the current responses from PHE are misleading and confusing.

I've said what I think the best plans for schools are in a previous post but to reiterate:

-Anyone who has traveled to Northern Italy, South Korea, Iran and China to stay off regardless of showing symptoms. (Possibly Japan, Germany, France too)
-Anyone (regardless of travel) with a cough and or temp should stay off.
-Any individual schools with further concerns should be closed for deep cleans as and when required.
-Any schools with a diagnosed case to close for 2 weeks, and review the situation before re-opening. Localised school closures for as long as necessary.
-Any pupils who's parents wish to keep them home should be allowed to stay home, without fines or losing their school place.

But my main point is that if schools close now, don't expect people to make up the time over the summer.

Because we simply don't know enough about the virus yet in order for experts to give that advice.

However, preliminary research suggests it isn't any more dangerous to pregnant women. No pregnant women seem to have got the illness critically or to have died from it.

WaterSheep · 01/03/2020 15:35

When it comes to closing schools with confirmed cases what about schools that are closely linked? Ie our secondary got confirmed cases but there are multiple siblings in the local primary schools.

This is a good question, and one I would love to know the answer to.

usernameishistory · 01/03/2020 15:35

That's why I asked you who said it penguins

I asked you who said that because exactly that, tou claimed people are saying it.

Now the circle is complete Confused

cologne4711 · 01/03/2020 15:35

Why is there no information or advice about pregnant women? I am 7 months pregnant and really concerned

I imagine if there were a vaccine pregnant women would be advised to get it if it were safe for them. As there isn't, it's the same as for everyone, wash your hands frequently and if you are very worried, try not to go out unless necessary.

OldQueen1969 · 01/03/2020 15:36

I;m not averse to speculating on the odd conspiracy theory and it is a fact that sometimes governments and other organisations are less than transparent with their citizens. My position is to focus on as much evidence and practical response to a situation as possible and file anything else for private analysis later.

There are some aspects of this situation that I feel could be better explained, but I also will not leap to film script suitable scenarios publicly. Truth may out but in the meantime just keep on Keeping on with an appropriate level of caution given the facts at hand......

Jrobhatch29 · 01/03/2020 15:36

@mrsbyers how do you know? I dont mean that to come across rude, just i cant find much information

Anothernamechange2020 · 01/03/2020 15:36

@usernameishistory someone a few pages back said 'f**k people's holidays' after I made the comment that logistically, it wouldn't work for school to work through the summer holidays.
I can't remember off the top of my head who.

ofwarren · 01/03/2020 15:36

A 22nd person has died after contracting coronavirus in South Korea.

penguinsonaslide · 01/03/2020 15:36

I asked you who said that because exactly that, tou claimed people are saying it.

No I didn't?

Sorry but I think you have got confused, or I haven't posted clearly. I said fuck people's holidays because of all the people on other threads asking whether or not people should fly. I don't think we are on different sides here!

MabelMoo23 · 01/03/2020 15:36

@TokyoSushi I don’t think Crufts will be cancelled. It’s too late in the day from an event perspective (commercially) to cancel.

The only way it will be cancelled is as a result of COBRA declaring a ban on all large gatherings like France have.

Little kids love this video. It will help with getting them to undertsnad germs and wash hands.

SansaSnark · 01/03/2020 15:37

Also, sorry, I accept that some of my posts on this thread have been a bit heated.

I do totally understand that people are really concerned about this, and I am concerned too. I don't think we are at the stage of needing school closures yet, but it's entirely possible in a few weeks that will change.

I think the PHE advice being given to schools is crap, BTW, and there does need to be a general willingness to regionally close schools if needed.

AvocadoOwl · 01/03/2020 15:37

I'm on board with your school policy @SansaSnark 👍

penguinsonaslide · 01/03/2020 15:37

someone a few pages back said 'fk people's holidays' after I made the comment that logistically, it wouldn't work for school to work through the summer holidays.

That wasn't aimed at you, I don't think I'd even read your comment tbh. It was aimed at the many people on other threads and IRL complaining that it might affect their holidays abroad.

usernameishistory · 01/03/2020 15:38

The govt will decide whether schools shut over an extended Easter period, and whether staff have to work extended summer weeks instead.

I doubt they'll be worried about holidays or who considers whether theyd be up for that or not

Its about containment and saving lives not holidaya and work patterns

GorkyMcPorky · 01/03/2020 15:38

This idea of closing schools bow and then keeping them open through the summer - are you kidding? Enforced leave in the cooler months in a likely lockdown situation, then back to work when you had your holiday booked? Nope.

Jrobhatch29 · 01/03/2020 15:38

@cologne4711 i would love to not go out unnecessarily but i am a primary school teacher. I also have 2 primary aged children myself. Ive considered starting maternity early

worldgonemad2020 · 01/03/2020 15:39

I think it is a little early to close schools unless they are in some way affected but they should definitely be looking at contingency plans. Live streaming classes, setting work, scan and send for marking etc. Particularly teens with big exams coming up.

usernameishistory · 01/03/2020 15:41

Ah sorry penguins. You just said you said it, not that someone previously said it.

To be clear, I didn't think it was aimed at me, it was a general observation on keeping things rational.

I don't think its reasonable to be saying inflammatory stuff on a thread trying to keep a reasoned keel.
