12 new cases. Twelve more coronavirus cases confirmed in England www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-51697991

keepmoving · 01/03/2020 13:48

Of the 12 today 3 from contact and 8 have recently travelled from Italy and Iran.

DonkeyKong2019 · 01/03/2020 13:49

Keep moving, 1 is unknown

Oakmaiden · 01/03/2020 13:49

The people who are catching it abroad aren't that much of a worry, it is the fact people are now catching it in the UK that is concerning...

FlamingoAndJohn · 01/03/2020 13:50

I work in a school. Soap in the toilet, or lack there of, is a huge problem.
I’ve spent years and years complaining very vocally about it but no one listened.
Finally I think we are getting soap dispensers.

ofwarren · 01/03/2020 13:51

2 new cases of #Coronavirus in #qatar. Both people came back from #Iran

MarshaBradyo · 01/03/2020 13:52

I don’t think they can contain it, spreads too easily

keepmoving · 01/03/2020 13:53

They are contact tracing the one the other way... I see the fact that they have quickly identified the source of 11 of the 12 as positive. We are still to see the updated total number tested.

Filitheyofun · 01/03/2020 13:53

35 cases in UK Shock

LarkDescending · 01/03/2020 13:54

The fact that half the country* seems to have spent half-term in northern Italy must be a cause for real concern as to how many cases are still out there.

*Not a scientific estimate.

IveGotBillsTheyreMultiplying · 01/03/2020 13:57

So they have from 9am to 2pm to get as much info on the cases before announcing. I suppose that makes sense.

BlessedBeTheFruitCake · 01/03/2020 13:58

Crap, that's more that I thought. Getting a bit twitchy now. DD is in a complex needs school with lots of medically vunerable children, there are 6 staff to 9 DC in her class so can't see they can safely combine classes.

FlamingoAndJohn · 01/03/2020 13:59

I have 25 children in my class.
I have 25 chairs and not quite enough tables. There is no way I could fit anymore children in and actually be able to teach them.

RocketFire · 01/03/2020 14:00

Do we know the areas the British people live in?

ofwarren · 01/03/2020 14:00

I'm a pretty level headed type but am getting a little twitchy now. The guy who had been working in the UK and has been confirmed as a case after travelling to HK and then diagnosed elsewhere - why can't they include how long he was in the UK for? The area he was in? They must know this information and it wouldn't be particularly identifying of the individual given that statistically the answers could apply to a number of people.

Trump saying people arriving from high risk areas will be tested is of course a sensible precaution, but how many areas are considered high risk now? An updated list would be useful.

Self protection is by extension protection of the wider community - people need to be able to make fully informed decisions to manage their health and daily lives.

I understand that it's prudent not to publish things until full facts are known, but at the same time the precautionary advice seems a little contradictory, bar the basics of course which one would hope are standard at any time.

Just how long is this piece of string........ ?

usernameishistory · 01/03/2020 14:00

I posted a few threads back about lack of sanitiser and using neat vodka or similar, and adding maybe t tree or such.

Shops here also sparsely utilised, but very sparsely filled shelves!

Covid19 has parts of hiv and ebola coding, hence the repeat infections I thought.

Maybe our warm weather is providing a modicum of protection for us? Warmest winter for many years, lets hope it stays this way!

I have been ill now for weeks, with a repeat of temp and wiped out feeling, plus blood stained mucus coming up front lungs.

On the recipe front, lots of raw garlic, fresh fruit and veg as much as possible.

Sadly there is so little scientific information poorly presented to unscientific population that it is inevitable that many will just believe it is flu or some new brand thereof, just as many think you can tell what flu is, or that if you die of a cold, it must've been flu (my recent thread).

You cannot blame those who don't realise if public information is insufficient and it really has been insufficient, however, reading threads contributions and links you'd think would be a minimal requirement for posting, but my thread, and here, prove continually that many don't believe so!

Hence continued claims that its just the same as flu, or comparisons to deaths from flu.

Now 35 uk cases, still not known the source of the lastest

Puppy78 · 01/03/2020 14:01

Do people think it's going to explode and affect a decent proportion of us? There are only 35 cases. I don't understand comments such as people saying they are shaking over it. I understand if you have other health issues, but is it really going to explode over the UK?

SubordinateThatClause · 01/03/2020 14:02

We'll be in the hundreds by the end of the week, if not more, judging by what's happening in Italy and France.

GenevaMaybe · 01/03/2020 14:02

How many cases are there in Italy and France now?

TheRealHousewife · 01/03/2020 14:02

A person diagnosed in Shentzen has recently worked in the uk. My guess is that’s where person to person contacted infection started.

The unknown is a huge factor for anxiety in things like this and therefore people are naturally worried. We don't know enough about this virus yet to be able to make any predictions so all we can do is prepare as best we can with good hygiene, having a supply of food and medication at home I case of quarantine and being sensible about things.

sovielverloren · 01/03/2020 14:05

Feeling even more twitchy. Someone upthread asked about church. Guidance different between c of e and catholic. There was still handshaking in c of e but I tried to occupy myself with important stuff in handbag and miss most of it. More than half the church is 60+ ( and numbers were low this morning) and probably don't come into contact with thousands of people. I on the other hand travel up and down to london daily on a train that stops at Haslemere, went to an Ash Wednesday service in central London with hundreds of people (although no handshaking!) And was in a west end theatre on Thursday night. In this small situation, I think I am the problem.

WitchDoc · 01/03/2020 14:05

The reality of what we face as a country will start coming thick & fast from tomorrow.
