@OhYouBadBadKitten, we need to remember that 60% would be an absolute worst case scenario, especially considering [based on information from the WHO] that it could have already peaked in china, and less than 0.014% of china has currently been infected.

Im not saying its not going to get any worse but those sorts of figures are absolute worst case scenarios.

That's awful about the lack of soap but I've just asked dd and there's no soap in their's either. Disgusting.

I’m a secondary school teacher. I have worked in schools where there is no soap in the toilets. My old headteacher said it was because kids use it to block up sinks so removed it! Pretty grim when kids are using the toilets and then just waving their hands under a tap

My current school thankfully has soap in dispensers and I think all schools who don’t need to get it sorted.

Ginger and turmeric are excellent for the immune system. We take a supplement daily that we bought from Amazon that combines the 2 (and black pepper), and it's done wonders for us. I have been taking them since November and neither my DH nor I have had sniffles or any form of bug all winter

AvocadoOwl · 01/03/2020 13:26

Oh come on @Namechanger20183110, whether it's a good idea or not in terms of the wider population it's still a big ask.

If it goes ahead then retirees who put themselves forward would be absolute heroes in my eyes.

Thailand reported its first death from the coronavirus. The patient was a 35-year-old retail worker who also tested positive for dengue t.co/elUfNufrFt t.co/UNP2PcPAE4

The New York Times is reporting gene sequencing research which suggests that the virus isolated from a recent Washington case is descended from the virus isolated from the US’s first case (also in Washington) on 19 Jan. The inference is that the virus has been circulating locally for the whole of the intervening period.

The 19 Jan case had direct links to Wuhan.

That's a bigger job than I expected!

ofwarren · 01/03/2020 13:40

God I'm shaking... It's everywhere

Llamallamadingdong · 01/03/2020 13:40

Delurking to add my 2 cents. I’m a front line HCP. I’m part time because we have disabled dc (also immunosuppressed) and because of my own chronic illness. DH is a full time hospital consultant.

I’d do extra. But only to a point. I already work a lot of unpaid overtime. It takes my hours up to full time and my health is suffering. I know others in the same position. If I push too hard I’ll relapse with my own illness. Its also unsafe making decisions/treating patients when you are being worked into the ground.

I’m sure lots of retirees/part time HCPs would step up but there’s no sense dragging people in if they are potentially going to be unwell or their skills have lapsed too much.

Jump not job

That could be reassuring, assuming Washington haven't seen a huge spike in respiratory admissions and deaths?

IveGotBillsTheyreMultiplying · 01/03/2020 13:41

That's as of 9am. Are we expecting more in the 2pm update?

ofwarren · 01/03/2020 13:41

They are hardly giving any information now. I feel sick.
12 new cases
What is tomorrow going to bring?

WaterSheep · 01/03/2020 13:42

That makes 35, so my estimate of 30 by the end of the week was actually too low. With a jump of 12 cases in 24 hours, i'm now wondering if we'll reach 100 by the middle of next week.

AvocadoOwl · 01/03/2020 13:43

2pm update includes cases up until 9am that morning.

WaterSheep · 01/03/2020 13:43

That is the 2pm update. We won't get another until 2pm tomorrow.

toysoldier · 01/03/2020 13:43

Oh god, 12 new cases

SistemaAddict · 01/03/2020 13:45

This is not good at all.

IveGotBillsTheyreMultiplying · 01/03/2020 13:45

Ok, sorry I didn't know about the lag.

LarkDescending · 01/03/2020 13:47

Blimey.

I wonder whether the “3 connected to a known case” are in/around Haslemere?

Flaxmeadow · 01/03/2020 13:47

12 new cases according to Sky News
