This video from lovely Dr John Campbell, is very informative and in part reassuring he has suggested a lower CFR of 1% based on the figures he is constantly analysing

15 people tested positive for #coronavirus in #Norway, according to the Norwegian Institute of Public Health.

AvocadoOwl · 29/02/2020 17:07

We have tickets for our family to go to the Eng v Wales 6 Nations game next weekend. Hoping they postpone/cancel as the tickets weren't cheap and there's no way on earth DH will agree with me that we should voluntarily opt out and watch from the sofa. It's going to cause arguments in the Avocado household if it goes ahead.

ofwarren · 29/02/2020 17:08

@OhMargo I use diprobase. Bought over the counter in the pharmacy. It's an eczema cream.

usernameishistory · 29/02/2020 17:09

Ok...us 'ladies' await your return, glad you let us know you had to go .... we'd have worried Hmm

woodencoffeetable · 29/02/2020 17:09

@OhMargo nivea blue pot is always good. magic for poor hands. very rich though.
neutrogena or palmer's cocoa butter are good as well.

New coronavirus case confirmed at Tenerife hotel on lockdown t.co/IYDoTdxIQk t.co/Abxlo9XnwG

theDudesmummy · 29/02/2020 17:11

I also queried the blood test thing. They also had x-rays. Apparently the swab tests are not available there yet.

AvocadoOwl · 29/02/2020 17:12

Good to see everyone learnt lessons from the Disaster Princess 'quarantine' Hmm

Those poor people locked in that hotel. Utter madness.

UtterlyPerfectCartoonGiraffe · 29/02/2020 17:13

Margo Also recommend nivea - either the blue pot or the white nivea soft. I often get dry cracked skin and nivea soft works better than most.

Greendayz · 29/02/2020 17:13

That's interesting that you're off to San Francisco Parker DH was also supposed to be going there for work tomorrow but the trip has just been cancelled due to California declaring a state of emergency due to the virus. The flights are still running, it was just his company that decided to cancel the trip. It was a big two day meeting with people from all over the world though so I guess did add to the risk. He thinks they were worried about staff being quarantined and unable to get home because of the state of emergency. (Though he also thinks they only declared one to make a point to the Trump administration who still seem to be saying "it won't get us, we're Americans Hmm)

anywinewilldonow · 29/02/2020 17:14

@SisterAgatha If there is a suspected case in Welwyn linked to Tenerife, it definitely isn't the Hertfordshire case declared today because PHE confirmed that, of the 3 new cases, two were acquired in Italy and one in Asia

WaterSheep · 29/02/2020 17:15

239 new cases and 8 new deaths in Italy

saltinesandcoffeecups · 29/02/2020 17:17

@Greendayz states declaring a state of emergency is rather routine in the US. Basically it triggers extra federal funds and assistance. I wouldn’t read too much into it at the moment.

Jellykat · 29/02/2020 17:17

Anyone know where the confirmed case in Gloucestershire is?

MaxNormal · 29/02/2020 17:19

I hope the bright side to this is it makes us a more tolerant caring society

Not to be negative but I don't see this, I don't see this outbreak changing much of anything except possibly changing business travel policies etc in the future.

WaterSheep · 29/02/2020 17:21

More information on Italy

Among the 1,049 active cases, 401 (38%) are hospitalized, and 105 (10%) are in intensive care.

DonkeyKong2019 · 29/02/2020 17:21

How does Indonesia have no cases?

DiscordandRhyme · 29/02/2020 17:22

I'm not worried because it's fairly uncommon in the UK. I'm also not in the highest vulnerability group.

It's important not to give in to mass hysteria-- a bit of objectivity goes a long way.

QueenofmyPrinces · 29/02/2020 17:23

Where I have worked, for 10 years, every year (I’m a nurse) we see hoardes and hoardes of people tested for and diagnosed with Corona virus - it’s absolutely nothing new to me.

I understand this is a new strain but all these hundreds of people who are being tested and coming back positive for corona virus, are the results specifying whether they are actually testing for this new strain or just Corona virus in general?

NaturalBornWoman · 29/02/2020 17:23

I want to know as well @Jellykat

theDudesmummy · 29/02/2020 17:24

As I understand it the genome was made globally available, so they are testing specifically for COVID19

WaterSheep · 29/02/2020 17:25

I'm not worried because it's fairly uncommon in the UK.

At the moment, but there are only going to be more confirmed cases in the coming days / weeks.

I'm also not in the highest vulnerability group.

Lucky you, I assume your family and friends aren't all as lucky.

usernameishistory · 29/02/2020 17:28

I do think it's horrible to keep reading the selfish posts stating I'm alright Jack.

If you're alright, and not bothered to care about the bigger picture I just dont get why you'd even bother to post. Oh well.

As for travelling to SF, not sure what its trying to prove. Its easy to go when you don't have dependents I guess.

For others, being quarantined is a big consideration, especially where it keeps them from their family responsibilities.

ofwarren · 29/02/2020 17:31

Italy
The number of people in intensive care units has risen to 105

AnyOldSpartabix · 29/02/2020 17:31

50 of our employees were quarantined for 14 days for fear of being infected

Were, or are currently being? Norway only announced their first case 6 days ago. (26th Feb)

Probably. The medic was only diagnosed in the last day or two. It sounds potentially like a translation issue. ‘Were’ probably should be ’have been’. Translating those types of verb/tenses is difficult.
