This video from lovely Dr John Campbell, is very informative and in part reassuring he has suggested a lower CFR of 1% based on the figures he is constantly analysing

I apologise if people find my contributions doomy.

myrtleWilson · 29/02/2020 16:42

Its not just doom Wehttam its the almost gleeful joy you seem to be taking in promoting an end of the world scenario - topped off with a cheery "hun"

HasaDigaEebowai · 29/02/2020 16:43

Its fine to want people to take it seriously but we do need to stick to the facts.

Quartz2208 · 29/02/2020 16:44

What do you see happening Wehttam how bad do you see it as being though if you think life will never be the same again

VivaLeBeaver · 29/02/2020 16:44

Locals in Iran have set fire to a clinic where coronavirus patients were being treated. Can’t find out if the patients died or not. Read it on Twitter.

usernameishistory · 29/02/2020 16:46

will rack your nerves to shreads, when all the sand falls through that hourglass...

This is just unpleasant though, unnecessary, and certainly emotive.

The govt have a duty to the uk community. Part of that is to treat us as bloody adults and give us access to reliable current data so that we can make our preparations and decisions to keep well and avoid infection spreading.

Their advice tells us to keep calm and carry on.

Clearly noone wants cv, so no! Nothing wrong with keeping calm, but carry on as normal which has allowed cv to come here... No!

SisterAgatha · 29/02/2020 16:46

Anyone got any idea where in Hertfordshire the lastest case is? I’m in Hertfordshire

Wehttam · 29/02/2020 16:47

Myrtle there is nothing gleeful or joyous about this at all. I can assure you of that. I for one am the last person to want a total change in society or to see my way of life disrupted, I have it easy, there are people who are unable to prep or panic buy because they have nothing to do so with.

usernameishistory · 29/02/2020 16:47

Its also very patronising calling people 'hun' (in case you weren't aware)

WeBuiltCisCityOnSexistRoles · 29/02/2020 16:49

I just realised your name is Matthew backwards

Don't do fucking kisses either.

Please Grin

ofwarren · 29/02/2020 16:50

Sorry sister no. They are keeping it under wraps. I would advise keeping checking twitter by searching "coronavirus Hertfordshire" to see if anyone has found out.

Parker231 · 29/02/2020 16:51

@Wehttam - my DH is a GP. His concern is that time managing patients concerns about the virus will take him away from other medical care his patients need. He doesn’t want to not see patients who have illnesses not coronavirus related as they need his time as well.

We’ve done no prepping as we can’t see getting to the stage we need to. I’m off to San Francisco tomorrow for work. I’m looking forward to seeing my US clients and colleagues- I’m not concerned. DT’s are at Uni - DD is on a placement in Brussels and DS is off to France skiing next week. Life is continuing as normal until the NHS and FCO recommends otherwise.

FromEden · 29/02/2020 16:52

I think the situation in the US is really concerning. If they aren't testing people AND there have already been 3 cases with no travel history then what's to stop them ending up with Iran levels of infection in a matter of weeks?

The CDC have said they want every health dept in the US testing by the end of next week. So we will see how many cases they uncover

Snowdropdelight · 29/02/2020 16:52

Is mathew the journo who put mn prepper into the daily mail? Trying to whip us into some ridiculous posts?

Wehttam · 29/02/2020 16:52

Quartz the truth is no one knows right now, we are in the infancy stages of this globally. I for one do not want to catch it nor do I want anyone I know catching it.

China has intentionally crashed their economy because of it that much we do know.

Wehttam · 29/02/2020 16:55

Definetly not a journalist 😂

SisterAgatha · 29/02/2020 16:55

There seems to be a couple in welwyn who may have been part of the Tenerife cohort so I am guessing it’s there. Quite near me tbh Confused

cologne4711 · 29/02/2020 16:58

Just seen that the Paris half marathon (tomorrow) has been cancelled :(

Quartz2208 · 29/02/2020 16:59

total change in society or to see my way of life disrupted

See Wehttam they are very different things. One is I suspect inevitable that we are going to have disruption to our lives for at least a few months.

What I dont see is a total change in society - nothing here screams to me that. The bubonic plague killed 1/3 of the population and yet that went away in a time far less experience than ours and society went on. Spanish Flu may have killed 3-6% of the World Population after WW1 and we still went on. Society didnt change. It wont here.

Oh maybe it will be the wake up call we need. Thousands have died from hunger today alone maybe it is time we realised the world isnt the nice kind place we think it is

Wehttam · 29/02/2020 17:00

Enjoy SF Parker

theDudesmummy · 29/02/2020 17:00

My daughter is in self-isolation in her flat in the European town where she is at university. There are lots of Italians at the uni (it is not in Italy though) and she and her flatmate have coughs and are sick. They had some blood tests yesterday and are waiting for results. They are not too worried (both healthy young women without any underlying health problems) but it is not nice, they are stuck (with their cat) in a small flat and just have to wait it out. No confirmed cases yet in the country where they, are but lots of testing going on...

The British consulate there is aware of the situation (I phoned them) and has spoken to them on the phone. Not much else anyone can do at the moment...

Wehttam · 29/02/2020 17:02

Quartz I hope the bright side to this is it makes us a more tolerant caring society, that we help eachother when the need arises. We are all in it together after all.

Wehttam · 29/02/2020 17:04

Errands calling, ladies I will be back later 🚗

WaterSheep · 29/02/2020 17:05

theDudesmummy I've not heard of anyone having a blood tests, I thought it was just swabs that were taken to test for the virus.

OhMargo · 29/02/2020 17:05

Whilst I wash hands frequently, I am going overboard now, and have red raw paws now.

Anyone recommend a really good hand cream/antidote to this please?

Have Aveeno with almond oil so am working with that, but what's the BEST in your opinion!

Keep the faith, and stay safe.
